Savage Rapids Dam Funds Get Approval Funds for rehabilitation of the Savage Rapids dam on Rogue river were included in the $560, 582.364 Interior Department budget approved Monday by the senate appropriations committee according to word from Wash ington, D.C. The amount al lowed for the Savage Rapids project was $700,000. Victor Boehl, president of the Grants Pass Irrigation district and Wm. F. Johnson, attorney for the district, appeared in Washington several weeks ago to push the project, which the appropriation probably covers. The district's application, based on Corps of Engineers esti mates, called for $686,000 of loaned funds for rehabilitation of the dam and $156,000 for screening the turbine intakes at the dam. The later appropriation would be non-reimbursible and would be charged to reclamation. Boehl today expressed the be lief that the Senate committee had shaved the amount of the total estimate but that he is writ ing Senator Guy Cordon by air mail letter for a break-down of the $700,000 figure, to deter mine what portion is alloted to screening.
