Problems of Fruit Viruses Discussed By Pathologist Two major virus fruit prob lems in the Rogue river valley the albino cherry and pear meas les, were discussed Monday eve ning and this morning, accord ing to C. B. Cordy, county agent, horticulture, when 14 plant pa thologists, specialists in stone fruit viruses, visited Medford. The specialists, who are on a tour led by L. C, Cochran, principal plant pathologist for the U. S. Department of Agri culture stationed at the citrus station, Riverside, Calif., stop ped here on route to a meeting at Corvallis, the agent added. Cherry Virus Disease They looked over the albino cherry virus situation, "which is very destructive, and has more or less ruined the cherry indus try in the county by completely eleminating the major portion of the cherry acreage," Cordy said. He pointed out that this is the only place where the albino disease is found in Oregon. It is almost identical, with a few exceptions, to the California "buckskin" disease, but is more destructive. The group also met Monday evening with the Jackson county Fruit Growers league and dis cussed the virus called the pear measles one which causes "great loss" to the bosc pears, according to Cordy. Members of the group are the leading specialists of each of their home areas and were, be sides Cochran, -George Cochran, and Bryce N. Wadley, Logan, Utah; George Nyland, Davis, Calif.; Gilbert L. Stout, Sacra mento, Calif,; William Rader Modesto, Calif.; E. L. Reeves, R. C. Lindner and H. C. Kirkpat rick, Wenatchee, Wash.; A. S. Costa, Campinas, Brazil; E. C. Blodgett, Prosser, Wash.; and J. A. Milbrath, Corvallis, Ore. The President asked Congress to enact legislation authorizing the Government to seize the steel industry and run it until the contract dispute is settled. Around Hollywood Hollywood U.R) Hollywood, land of neuroses and ulcers, abounds in psychiatrists and psy chologists, and Tuesday there's even one who will "analyze" you over a ?5 steak. The House of Murphy, a swank steak house that is the Toots Shors of Hollywood, Aline Mosby features a ta- bleside psychologist who drops around between courses to listen to your trouble.' Blond David Rice doesn't claim to be a doctor or any disciple of Freud. But he insists that for $1.50 he tells the movie celebri ties some of the same things they find out on an analyst's couch at $25 an hour. There's one difference. Rice is a happy fellow who tells his cus tomers only the good things. In Capsule Form "I analyze a person in capsule form," he explained with dignity between tableside consultations. "I tell people their better points and how to overcome their weak er ones through constructive criticism. I give them a mental lift. "If they want sincere judg ment, I give it to them. Or if By ALINE MOSBY United Press Correspondent they want just entertainment and flippancy for a lark, they get that." Rice is a familiar fixture to such steady customers at the eat ery as Corinne Calvet, Betty Grable and Jimmy Durante. He "analyzed" Shelley Winters as "someone who needs a man to control her and her tempera ment, and I think she has found one. If she is allowed to domi nate a man she loses respect for him." Mental Security Found Marie Wilson, according to his quick appraisal, "has found emo tional and mental security in her new marriage." He's also "analyzed" Paulette Goddard, Robert Taylor, Barba ra Stanwyck, Ava Gardner Frank Sinatra and other lumi naries. "The hardest persons to ana lyze are Texans because they think they already know every thing," he sighed, "Last night I had 10 at a table and they kept trying to out-talk me. Gags about psychiatry are fashionablte in the plaster city these days, 'too. One local wit claims a Beverly Hills psycho analyst's office has a sign, "Four couches! No waiting! But there is no truth to the story that one movietown ana lyst has two couches, one for "A movie producers, one for "B's." Yes, SAIFEWAY Has POTATOES!
