Potato Prices Rise Sharply But Lower Levels Expected By UNITED PRESS Potato prices, stripped of gov ernment ceilings, rose sharply in many cities Saturday, but mar ket conditions and the American housewife were expected to force them back down again next week. "The American housewife Is the greatest price control agent in the world," a chain store buy- Opening Set Today Af New Subdivision North of Medford Grant Acres, a new restricted subdivision now open for sale, Is located on Grant road off Beal lane, according to Ray Schu macher, sales agent. Owner of the Acres is N. A. Mead. The sub-division is reached by driving out highway BO north to Bcnl lane then following the signs, the agent pointed out. It takes 10 minutes to reach the Acres from downtown Medford, he added, and "each homcsite will be plainly marked for price and description." The sub division Is described as having granite loam soil, no mud and on cither wooded or level acres, depending on lot choice. The lots are priced from $1,000 up and are In various shapes and sizes.. The larger lots without trees are termed suitable for large garden areas while there are numerous shad ed smaller lots back in trees. Schumacher described the water as high and easily accessi ble for wells. A salesman will be on duty to assist prospective home-site buyers in viewing the various locations. First Four-Engined U. I. Jet Bombers Arrive in England London U.R Europe's first four-engincd Jet bombers, of a wing of American-built. B-45 Tornado bombers, began arriving at Sculthorpe, England U. S. airbase Saturday night. The big jet bombing planes will be assigned to the North Atlantic Treaty organization to strengthen West Europe's de fenses agamst the threat of So viet aggression. Fourteen of the planes arrived at the American base after a mass, cross-Atlantic flight from Langley field, Virginia. It was the first mass ocean crossing by the B-45s. Attached to Jet Wing The planes are attached to the 47th light jet bombardment wing, which will be attached to NATO. They arrived in England after stop-overs at Westover field, Mass., and Rcklavik, Ice land, enroute. An Air Force spokesman said other planes of the wing were scheduled to ar rive later. The wing will be based at Sculthorpe, under the Third Air Force command and will add a "Sunday punch" to mounting United States airpower in Eu rope. The B-45 Tornado jets will be able to carry larger bombs and carry them further than er said. "She won't let the price of spuds rise too high." They pointed out that much of the crop is of the thin-skinned variety which will turn green quickly If not moved. Executive Secretary Charles H. Bromann of the Associated Food Dealers of Greater Chicago said terminal market experts were "very optimistic that prices will fall below the old ceiling levels as soon as the crop comes in." "The black market is broken as of today," Bromann said. "There's just no incentive for the crooks without ceilings and with supplies increasing." Fire Near Butte Falls Doused by State Patrol , Butte Falls A man-caused fire by careless campers was ex tinguished about three miles from here on the Coblcigh road early yesterday morning, ac cording to the state forest patrol. Frank Bean, Butte Falls fire warden, and Doyle Stockton, as sistant to the warden, Medford, led the crew which put out the blaze which was concentrated in a 100-foot snag. The blaze was apparently started Friday afternoon, they said. Wanton Destruction of Property Brings Warning by State Police State police issued a warning yesterday afternoon that any youths caught on the Nash prop erty, south of the Girl Scout Day camp on Bear creek, and oper ating or damaging the equip ment there will be arrested and fined for the damage involved. Police said that several hund red dollars worth of damage has already been done by the firing of .22 caliber rifles into the heavy equipment such as tread tractors, shovels, and the like at the gravel pit on the property. They stated that they were go ing to "crack-down" on the. vio lators because of the "needless and wanton" damage which is quite extensive. - Besides the damage to private property, police said that the youths were subjecting them selves to injury by operating the heavy equipment and "jam ming" around the property.
