Dinner will be at noon "' and the meetings will open at ' 11:30 p.m. Department Com- 1 - mander Bill Ashworth and Mrs Ashworth, department - presl- f dent, will be present. District 7 is made up oi posts and auxiliaries in Curry, Jose phine and Jackson counties, ; there being ten posts and nine auxiliaries in the district. Charl es L. Smith, district command : er, and Mrs. John O. Walker . district president, anticipate a large attendance at this district meeting. Both post and auxiliary mem ' . bers take part In many hospital : activities. Since the Camp White ; post is a "bachelor" post, the auxiliaries of the district take turns at serving refreshments and furnishing entertainment at the open meeting which this post holds the third Wednesday of each month. ' June 1, district 17 post and auxiliary members took home made cookies, furnished by the auxiliaries, to the Veterans Ad ministration hospital, Roseburg distributed- the cookies and vis ited with patients. Those making the trip were Henry Laffcrty and Cornelius Rost, Walter A. Phillips post, Ashland, Mrs. Laf ferty, president of that auxil iary, and Mrs. Rost; Mrs. Amy Handle, auxiliary district hospi tal chairman, and Mrs. John O Walker, president of district 7; District Commander Charles L. Smith; Mrs. Ruth Johnson, presi dent of Del Rogua auxiliary, Grants Pass, and other members of Grants Pass post and auxil iary. . ' 1 Leaves Mrs. R. W. Swartsley, Salem, left for her home today after vis iting since Memorial day with her daughter, Mrs. Phil Brain erd, and family, 1628 East Main street, and her son and his fam ily, the Joye Swartsleys, 47 North Peach street. Mrs. Jack Meacham Is the retiring presi dent. .' ' Mrs. Howard Brooks was In stalled the new president; Mrs. Barney Garrett, vice-president; Mrs. Gale Culy, chaplain; Mrs. Frank E. Burdick, conductor; Mrs. Hans Rammin, secretary. The new treasurer is Mrs. Ar chie E. Nixon and guards are Mrs. William Neal and Mrs. Les ter Broker. Mrs. Primo Ciardi and Mrs. Percy Cully are trust ees. Gifts were given to the retir ing officers, the drill team and lodge mother by the retiring president and she was presented a gift and a past president's pin from the lodge and also from the retiring officers. Prospect Association Sets Meeting Tuesday Prospect Prospect Health association will hold Its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, June 10, at Community hall. The meeting will begin promptly at 2 p.m. Following the business meet ing, a public health nurse will discuss a follow-up program for the tuberculosis survey held re cently. 1 Lance Dodson Returns From School in Texas Lance Dodson, son of Dr. and Mrs. A. E. Dodson, 815 Taylor street, returned last week from Kerrvllle, Tex., where he com pleted his Junior year at Schrlen er Military Institute. He will be here for the summer vacation. This was his first year at the institute. Fellowship President Announces Meeting; Year Ended by Group Mrs. Ron Gandee, president of Christian Women's fellowship. has called a planning day meet ing Wedesday, June 11, in Fel lowship hall. All elective offi cers, circle leaders and commit tee members are asked to attend. An executive meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. and a general business meeting at 10:30 a.m. Those attending are to take a sack lunch. ; The fellowship held the last businesj meeting and luncheon of the fiscal year June 4. Fol lowing the business meeting, luncheon was served by mem bers of Circle 5, with Mrs. Carl Pearson in charge. Seasonal flowers were used at table decorations. Guests were Introduced and welcomed by Mrs. Arnold Bonn ert. Mrs Claud Cooper, retiring president, was presented a gift from the fellowship. Mrs. Gandee introduced new officers and circle leaders who will serve the coming year. They are Mrs. Frnnk Heller, vice president; Mrs. Howard Gault, recording secretary; Mrs. Har old Sutton, corresponding sec retary; Mrs. Bohncrt, worship chairman. Circle leaders are Mrs. Wayne Smith, Mrs. Carl Pearson. Mrs. C. D. Hershiser, Mrs. Walter Kindred, Mrs. H, A. McLclland, Mrs. Lester Lup ke, Mrs. Esttle Hopkins, Mrs Lester Chllds and Miss Delorls Lee. The missionary program. planned by Circle 2, was direct ed by Mrs. Howard Gault, using as the topic, "Our Missions in Jamaica." Taking part were Mrs. Lester Lupke. Plans were made for a dinner meeting at the Jackson Hotel at 7 p.m. Wed nesday, June 11. Committee chairmen were named by the President, Mrs. Edith Baker, and plans were dis cussed for service projects for the coming' year. The chairmen are Mrs. Eleanor Henry, pro gram coordinator; Mrs. Mar Jorie Butler, Information: Miss Myrta Otterdale, public affairs; Mrs. Maude Coddings, interna tional relations; Mrs. Bertha Has kins, vocation; Mrs. Adrienne Steward, ' archives, Miss Dana Platz, membership and classifi cation; Mrs. Enid Rankin, exten sion; Mrs. Mildred Moss, consti tution and by-laws; Miss Grace Smith, finance; Mrs. Lucile Cope land, publicity. Since the Medford chapter was formed May 24, almost 100 let ters of congratulations have been received from Altrusa clubs in every part of the United States and from Canada. Picnic Announced For Church Circle Merrltt circle, First Presbyter ian church, will hold a picnic Tuesday, June 10, at the home of Mrs. Horace Thompson, Hilslng er road. Those providing or needing transportation are ask ed to meet at the church at 12 noon. Jerome McDougall Both Acts, Directs Footlighter Play Jerome McDougall, Crater High School drama teacher, is cast .as Dr. Rendle in the Foot- lighters' drama, "Suspect," now in rehearsal. Mr. McDougall, who is also directing the play, stepped into the part when circumstances forced Robert Corliss to with draw. He directed "Light Up the Sky" for the group last year, and played the role of Doug Proctor in "A Guest in the House." Playing Janet Rendle, the doc tor's daughter, is Jerre Cleek. She is making her second ap pearance with the amateur the ater group, having been seen as Ellen Griswold in "Goodbye My Fancy." Janet is the out spoken young modern whose de termination to win Robert Smith away from the possessiveness of his mother precipitates the crisis in the suspenseful drama. "Suspect," written by Edward Percy and Reginald Denham, be gins a five-day run at the little theater on the Fairgrounds on June 24th. Ticket sales will be gin soon, according to Frank Buchter, president of Foot lighters. Daughters Announce Change of Meetings The time and date of the Elta Deuel Hubbs tent. Daughters of Union Veterans meetings have been changed, officers announc ed last week. The sessions will be held the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 2 p.m. in the courthouse auditor ium. The group previously has met on Fridays. Cog hill have returned from a week's vacation in San Francisco and Sacramento, Calif., and Mr. Cog- hill will leave Monday to enter indoctrination training at San Diego. He recently enlisted in the naval air force. Before his enlistment, Mr. Coghill was employed as office manager for the Electric Steel Foundry company, Medford. While Mr. Coghill is at San Diego, his wife will make her home with her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Coghill, 419 J street. 1 More than 8,000 Visit Oregon Capitol in ' May Salem (U.R) A total of 8, 063 students and other tourists visited Oregon's state capitol here in May, the secretary of state's office said Saturday. That averages about 270 persons a day. The regular tourist season has just started, the department not ed, and two young women are aiding veteran Guide James Mc Gllchrist. They are Mary Louise Lee, who graduated this month from Willamette university, and Sally Jo Grimm, Willamette student. Miss Lee is starting her third summer as capitol guide aide. McGilchrlst said some 25,000 to 30,000 visitors are expected during the next three peak months of vacationers. Hereto fore they have included visitors from all 48 states, the U. S terri tories and several foreign countries. Registered Nurses To Hold Institute An Institute on "New Drugs," sponsored by the Oregon State Nurses association, will be held June 13 from 3:30 to 8:30 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. Miss Violet Gal braith will conduct the Insti tute, with sessions to be held at the Community hospital pent house. All registered nurses are in vited. 'Nominal fees will be chareed regular OSNA members and non-members. Plan Dinner Meeting For Degree of Honor Degree of Honor lodge will meet for a potluck dinner for their families and friends Tues day, June 10 at 6 p.m. A regular meeting and program will be held. The event will be at the Pythian building, Fifth and Grape streets. Scavenger Hunt Held A scavenger hunt, planned by Mrs. John Lamberty for mem bers of the Alpha Rho chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi, took place Friday evening at the Lam berty home. On the committee for planning the hunt were Mrs. Ray Dallaire and Mrs. David Bergstrom. A buffet supper was served later in the evening and cards were played. Auxiliary-Guild Announces Picnic A picnic luncheon at 12:30 p. m. at the R. W. Frame home in Phoenix will be held by St. Mark's auxiliary-guild Friday, June 13. Mesdames A. G.
