Shady Cove-Trail News Shady Cove-Trail Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Duggan and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Powell spent a day last week helping the L. L. (Bud) Henshaw family move to their big ranch at Butte Falls. The Henshaws have sold their home next to The Eock Market near Shady Cove to a Mr. and Mrs. Wimple of Pasadena, Calif. Mr. Wimple was engaged in auditing work in Pasadena and Mrs. Wimple Is an interior decorator. Mrs. James Vanderlip and children, Pam and Jimmy have gone to Los Angeles to attend the wedding of Mrs. Vanderlip's niece. Miss Myrna Wahrman of Los Angeles. ' Mr. and Mrs. William O'Neal of San Bruno, Calif., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Green ley over the Memorial Day week-end. O'Neal is a contrac tor in San Bruno. Carl Robbms of Trail Is build ing a new home up Trail Creek. He has had Tom King of Shady Cove helping him lately, Recent visitors at the Rogers ranch were Mrs. Leila Rogers and her guest, Mrs. Peg Block' linger of Foustville, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Duan Chaney of Shady Cove have moved to Car berry mill at Applegate where he is employed. Mr- and Mrs. Athel Dudley of I Shady Cove returned recently from Redmond where' they at tended the funeral of his brother-in-law, Frank Cross. Guests over the Memorial Day week-end of Mr. and Mrs. Tom King of Shady Cove were two nieces and families of Mr. King's, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lodge of Tigard, and Mr. and Mrs. Rarrol David of Newberg. Tne cabins at Rogue River Lodge have been opened for the summer tourist season with Mrs. Elsie Busch of Trail in charge during the day and Mr. and Mri. W. Wert,' also of Trail taking care of the reservations in the evening. Mrs. Montie Gilhausen and her son, Jan Gilhousen of Eugene together with Mrs. Al Gilhousen Jr., of Medford, spent the Memorial Day week-end at the Lodge. Mrs. Adeline Carl of Shadv Cove is spending a short time at Grants Pass where she is taking care of the Redwood Motel for her friends, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pearson who have gone to San Diego to attend their son's grad uation. Mr. and Mrs. William Layton of Shady Cove have moved to Stockton, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hafner of San Francisco spent a few days recently visiting Mrs. Hafner's mother and family, Mrs. Jean ett Johnson and her grandmoth er, Mrs. Francis Miller, all of Shady Cove. Hafner had' just oeen discharged from the navy, They went on to Portland where they are living and where Mrs. Hafner is employed at the Fed' eral Reserve bank. Recent programs enjoyed by Shady Cove Rotary Club have included the following: Earl Jossy, agent for the Jackson County Extension Service who spoke on the trend of the farm ing industry in the Rogue val ley, and the necessity of greater efficiency In farm, operation to meet the need of the Increasing population; Bob Dickey, assist ant district attorney, presented an enlightening picture of the mechanical and emotional set-up of a national political convex tion; Alt Mekvold, county school superintendent, explained the need for, and the purpose of, the proposed reorganization of the Oregon school system which re sulted in the so-called "Holy Bill." upon which the people of Oregon will vote this fall. Johnny Jones of Shady Cove, past commander of Steelhead Post No. 6881, VFW of Shady Cove, took his private plane and flew Benny Walls of Trail, win ner of the VFW marble tourna- ment to the state tournament in Portland where he placed fourth. Scottie Parrlck of Trail plans to leave June 5 for his Forest Service post at Buck Rock. He recently attended the three, day Forest Service indoctrination school. Mr. and Mrs. Jack White and family of Covina, Calif., have been spending a few days In the Rogue River area. Jack White formerly lived in Shady Cove where he built the Shady Cove Washaterla, the residence on the river now owned by the John (Red) Wilsons and worked on Mrs. Florence Mason's house. Miss Barbara Conway and her friend. Rick Reedy, both of Ash land, spent Sunday at the home of Miss Conway's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Conway of the Rogue River Drive, Shady Cove. Miss Conway is at present at tending summer school at S.O.C, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Reynolds of Etna, Calif., were recent visit ors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Owen of the Rogue River Chinchilla farm in Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Kee, par ents of Cecil Kee of Shady Cove, have returned to their home In Spokane after spending the win ter with the Cecil Kee family. Shady Cove-Trail Residents of Shady Cove are urged to vote on the bond issue at a special election set for June 11 at the Shady Cove schoolhouse. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fallman and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Myers, both of Sacramento, Calif., were guests over the Memorial Day week-end of Mr. and Mrs. Art Levulett of Shady Cove. Lowell Chatwood and Jerry Stewart, Medford Junior high students, entertained with guitar playing and singing on a recent Dr. Pepper program. Mr. and Mrs. Flink of Los An geles are building a new home next to the Shepherd'! on the Bert William's property across the river. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Knotts and family ot Shady Cove spent the Memorial Day week-end in Heppner, visiting relatives. Sus- na Knotts will remain with her aunt in Heppner for the summer. Mrs. Dick Bartuss of Shady Cove visited her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Grey King on a trip to Port land recently. Musical entertainment was furnished at the last meeting of the Pythian Sisters in Medford by Patricia and Maxine Hawks, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Max Hawks of Shady Cove, who play ed clarinets, and by Vernon Baldwin, son of Mr. arid Mrs. Ralph Lane of Shady Cove, who played the Sousaphone. Steelhead Post No. 6881 V.F.W. and Ladies Auxiliary will hold their regular semi-monthly meeting on Friday evening, June 6, at the Post home. A good crowd enjoyed dancing at the V.F.W. hall on May 31 to the music of Dick Spain and his orchestra. Upper Rogue Grange will hold Its regular monthly square dance at the Grange hall on Saturday, June 6, with Mrs. Leona Hughes as caller. The event is open to the public and all interested in square dancing are urged to attend. Among those attending the Shriner's convention at Grants Pass recently were Bill Massey of Trail and Max Hawks of Shady Cove. Hawks also attend ed the later Shrine convention at Billings, Mont. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Torrance of North Vancouver, B.C., have lust left for their home after vis iting their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Torrance of Shady Cove. Accompanying the W. A. Torrances was Mrs. James Gor don of Vancouver, B.C. Dr. and Mrs. Verne Wilson of the Rogue River drive, Shady Cove, entertained at a dinner party at Dead Indian Hot Springs last Sunday. - Guests were Mr. and Mrs. William An drews of Camo White and Mr and Mrs. Dick Bartuss of Shady Cove. Mrs. Sheldon Hughes is plan ning to leave the last of "this month for Sallmar (near Mon terey) Calif., to attend a square dance Institute for six days. At tendance will be from all over the United States. Mrs. Hughes is very well known as a square dance caller In this area. She will accompany Mr. and Mrs. Les Robertson. Mrs. Les Robertson is a caller at "The Corral", Camp White. Mrs. John Collins of Shady Cove has lust returned from Long Beach, Calif., where she was called by the illness of her father, C. A. Troop. He under went a second operation while she was there and Is still in a hospital. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bartuss of Shady Cove are expecting their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fox of Pasadena, Calif., to visit them on their vacation about the middle of June. . Benny Collier flew down from Willamette university to be pres ent at his brother, Jimmy's gra duation June 1 from SOC at Ashland, Mrs. Frank Dolencheck and Mrs. Ronald Axtell gave a lun cheon May 26 at "Folding Hills" ranch in honor of Mrs. Walter Hillman who will soon leave for South America to Join her hus band and will be gone about three years.
