Jacksonville Club Holds Spring Show; Iris Are Displayed Jacksonville Over 200 per rons attended the Jacksonville Garden club show held in the Odd Fellows hall May 22. Mrs. R, T. Nichol was general chair man for the event which was themed "Festival of Flowers." ' A highlight of the show was a large exhibit of named iris. Entries were from the gardens of Mrs. Kenneth Farley, Phillips nursery, Mrs. Dave Wood, Mrs. Nichol, Mrs. Leonard McKee, Mrs. Ray Coleman, Mrs. Charles Offenbacher, Mrs. Paul God ward and Mrs. Lee Port. There also was a table of iris species. Other exhibits contrib uting to the success of the show were flower arrangements by visiting clubs and individual members. There were displays by the Lewis nursery; flower corsages by Mrs. W. L. Walden; , feather corsages by Mrs. Lois McKee, and arrangements of animal planters with a natural istic scene. Visitors were attracted by a large display of old and unusual dolls by collectors and mem bers. Miss Fannie Whitman, col lector of period and authentic dolls, displayed In costumes a wax doll of Marie Antoinette, and a waxed doll from the old B'rench quarter of New Orleans; three dolls costumed in gowns of the hoop skirt period; also ceramic reproductions of antique ' doll heads, period hats in minia ture and a colonial setting of miniature figures and furniture. Other collectors exhibiting were Mrs. J. Hoist of Butte Falls who displayed her Navajo In dian dolls; Mrs. H. A. Davis, Medford, noted for her pear sculpture of miniature charac ters and room scenes in minia ture; Mrs. Paul Bulkin, Jack sonville, who showed German china dolls of 1890 and Russian Imported dolls of various dis tricts; Mrs. Addie Shannon, Jacksonville, who exhibited a 33-year-old doll and a musical doll; and Mrs. Evelyn James displayed a baby dress 61 years old. Members of the club had on view keepsakes and old dolls. Mrs. Harry Whitney showed a doll 80 years old; Mrs. Paul God ward, a china doll 43 years old; Mrs. Lee Port, a china doll 100 years old; Mrs. Clora Garrett, a doll head 75 years old; Mrs, Frank Janosky who showed a group of large size Indian dolls; Mrs. W. W. Winningham, an Eskimo doll; Mrs. A. Burch, Mexican miniature figures; and an 1891 shadow box picture of shell flowers was displayed by Mrs. Garrett. Space also was given to a col lection of dried pressed weeds, work of the Jacksonville Gar den club members with Mrs. Port in charge. On hand were bulletins recommended for kill ing broad-leaved weeds and grasses. - During the afternoon Mrs. Lulu Saulsberry gave two read ings. Arrangements for the tea ta ble were in harmony of soft purple ' shades using clematis lawsoniana, sweet peas and iris In a silver bowl won by the club In a jubilee parade. Dinner Is Given On Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. H. Clement, 1956 Roberts road, were hosts May 29 for a dinner is observance of the birthday anniversary May 30 of M. Clement's father, A. R. Clement. Others attending were his daughters, Mrs. C, H. Guches and Mrs. F. Clogston, and their husbands and children; another son, L, M. Clement, his wife and family, and 8 sister, Mrs. F, R. Hagerty, The honored guest was retir ed eight years ago from the Cai ifornia Oregon Power company where he was an accountant for many years. He returned recent ly from California where he spends his winters. During the summers he lives at the home of his sister, Mrs, Hagerty. Fluoridation Program Used By Many Cities The number of cities in the United States adding sodium fluoride to their water supplies in an effort to reduce children's tooth decay has more than dou bled during the past year, ac cording to Miss Frona A, Yea ger, extension health specialist at Oregon State college. The 1951 figures show 121 communities with fluoridation programs in effect as compared with 50 communities in 1S50. Another 138 communities have approved a fluoridation pro gram. The programs are either under way or have been approv ed in 43 states and the District of Columbia, and involve about 3,000,000 people. Get Together Club Plans Gift Exchange Get Together club members will make up an exchange of "white elephant" gifts during a meeting Wednesday at 1 p. m. to the Eagles hall. The float, which was judged the best in the parade, represent ed fairyland and it was draws by a large white swan. It featur ed a woodland scene, Bonnie Simmonds, daughter of Mr, and Mrs, Merle Simmons, and Diane Bolz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Walter Bolz, rode os the float, and were dressed as fairies. Curt Fisher, coordinator for the festi val, earlier presented the trophy to Mrs. Lewis, who fas tarn will present it to the members. The trophy was given for the first time this year to stimulate interest in the float division.
