The event is sponsored by the college faculty and will replace the Informal gathering previously held im mediately following commence ment exercises. Mrs. Margaret Skerry, acting dean of women; Misi Florence Allen, principal of Lincoln Lab oratory school; and Mrs. Betty Lou Dunlop, instructor In edu cation are co-chairmen of the arrangements committee. Robert E. Phillips, Ashland, senior class president, is also assisting. Tilton Married in Reno Miss Gayle Susanne Hise became the bride of Thomas Joe Tilton May 7 in a simple 8:30 o'clock evening ceremony in the rectory of St. Luke's Luth eran church at Reno, Nev. The Rev. George C. Schrocder per formed the ceremony. For her marriage the bride wore a grey tailored suit with navy blue blouse and white ac cessories. Her corsnge was of pink carnations. After a ti.p to San Francisco they returned to Medford where a small reception was held in the home of the bride's parents. They will live In Omaha. Neb. He is stationed there with the Air Force as an airman second class. The bride is a Junior at Medford Senior High school. The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy V. Hise. Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Tilton are the bridegroom's parents. ' Installation Planned For Eagle Point PI A Eagle Point New officers of the Eagle Point Parent-Teacher association will be installed Tuesday, May 27 at 3 p.m. The Installation ceremony will be conducted by Mrs. Floyd Bar rett, Grants Pass. She is a past regional vice-president for this district. The new regional vice- president also will accompany her and' give a brief talk. The meeting will be held In the Senior High school library. Contest Winners Presented Awards Tuesday Evening Crater Lake post and auxill ary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, presented awards to winners of the annual student essay con test at a meeting held May 20 In the VFW hall. Attending were Miss Carla McKeen, first prize winner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. O. McKeen; Miss Joan Perreard, second prize winner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Perreard; Miss Robene Starcher, third prize winner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bren H. Starcher; Miss Patricia Hampson, daughter of Mrs. Berte Hampson; and Miss Carole Robertson, daughter of Mrs. M. F. Rutherford, who won honorable mention. Miss Jeanette Thatcher, chair man of the Judging committ-e, and Elliott Becken, assistant su perintendent of Medford schools, also attended the meeting and spoke. Miss Thatcher explained the procedure of Judging. Program chairman for the evening was Mrs. Warren Ficht ner, who was assisted by Mrs. Vera Meyers. Members of Fred Divisek's accordion band enter tained during the meeting. Mrs. Fred Lawrence, chairman of the essay contest, introduced the winners, and Mrs. Merrill Beneka presented the awards. Mrs. Flchtner, refreshment chairman, was assisted by Mrs. O. O. DeBerry, Mrs. J. D. Mrs. Mabel McCallie will be the vice-grand; Mrs. John Black, re cording secretary, and Mrs. Pearl Kitchen, treasurer. Elec tions were held at the last regu lar meeting. Mrs. Albert Hackert was re ported to be In Salem attending a Rebekah assembly as an of ficial delegate from the lodge. Mrs. Louis Jones was to receive the degree of chivalry from the Patriarchs Militant organization in Salem during assembly. This degree is voted to a member of the lodge for outstanding serv ices in the lodge during the past year. Plans for a rummage sale to be held in the near future were made and later announcements are to be made concerning the sale. Members were urged by their officers to attend a meeting of the Rebekah club, Tuesday, May 27. A shower for the lodge kitch en is planned for that meeting and dessert will be served by Mrs. Carl Garman and Mrs. Ted Greene. A special prize was won by Mrs. Delbert Miller. Mrs. Fran cis Brisbine, noble grand, has furnished a gift for this prize at each meeting. As a short program for Me morial day, Mrs. George Brown lee played a medley of civil war tunes and Mrs. Brisbine read an appropriate poem. Out-of-town members who attended were Mrs. Jack McDaniels and Mrs. Kindred Thomas, Yreka, Calif. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Everett Ravenor and Mrs. Greene. Sergeant and Wife Visit Relatives Here; Mrs. Stafford Honored Sgt. Roy Stafford and Mrs. Staffdrd will leave Wednesday after visiting here since May 16 with Sergeant Stafford's mother, Mrs. Frank Worrell and Mr. Worrell, 214 Girard drive. Sergeant Stafford has been stationed with the Marine corps at Camp Mathews and they live in San Diego. On his return he will be stationed at Camp Pen dleton near Oceanside for com bat duty. He has been a rifle coach and instructor at Camp Mathews. Mrs. Stafford is a nurse and has been employed In a San Diego hospital. During their visit friends of the couple entertained in honor of Mrs. Stafford. Hostesses were Mrs. Clarence Krieger, Mrs. Orie S. Moore, and Mrs. Hugh Samples. The event was in the Krieger home, 719 West 11th street. Attending were Mrs. Floyd Undorhill, Mrs. R. H. Peterson, Mrs. John Green, Mrs. Jack Samples, Mrs. Florest Samples, Mrs. Frank Worrell, the hon ored guest and hostesses. Re freshments were served. Butte Falls Oub Installs Officers Butte Falls After a recent short business session of Butte Falls Garden club members led by Mrs. Frank Carson, president, Mrs. W. A. Frecland, Central Point, Installed officers of the club. They are Mrs. Leslie Horn, president; Mrs. Robert Bceman, vice-president; Mrs. John Hoist. second vice-president; Mrs. Clay coniey, recording secretary; Mrs. William Edmondson, cor responding secretary; Mrs. Ed win Malloy, treasurer, and Mrs. James Arnold, historian. Each office was given a rose corsage made by the corsage chairman, Mrs. Elga Abbott. Fol lowing her acceptance. Mrs. Horn presided. The retiring president, Mrs. Carson, was given a past presi dent's pin by Mrs. Robert Bee man. Mrs. Carson served two terms as president of the group. Announce Topic For Meeting of Society; Reports To Be Given Topic for the Tuesday, May 27 meeting of Methodist Wom an's Society of Christian Service will be "All Children Our Con cern" with several members pre senting phases of the topic. Five members of the society will give reports on the recent Oregon Conference of Woman's Societies held in April at Forest Grove. Mrs. G. Brood will be in charge of the devotional pro gram. The business meeting will open at 11 o'clock and since this month closes the church year, circle memberships will again be rotated with new circle chairmen drawing membership names. At 12:30 p.m. luncheon will be served and the program will be presented at 1:30 p.m. 1 State President Attends Meeting Mr. and Mrs. Hans Rammin left by car Saturday morning to attend a meeting that day of Rural Letter Carriers at Bend. Mrs. Rammin Is state auxiliary president and was to complete arrangements for the state con vention of the group to be held in Bend June 11, 12 and 13. Charity Williams Selected Member Of Phi Beta Kappa Miss Charity Williams, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas V. Williams, 1975 Houston road, Medford, has been named to membership In Phi Beta Kappa, national scholastic honor society. Membership in Phi Beta Kappa is considered the top honor which can be conferred on a university student, and but 25 of the entire senior class, num bering more than 1000 students, were so honored this year. Miss Williams, who is to re ceive a degree in foreign lang uages In June, has a grade-point average above 3.5, and several semesters during her college ca reer made the perfect 4 point average. She spent her junior year enrolled at the Sorbonne in France. Miss Williams Is a member of PI Delta Phi, French honor so ciety, Sigma Delta Pi, Spanish honor society, and the ' French club. When Miss Williams was grad uated from Medford Senior High school she was valedictorian of her class, was named the out standing senior girl for the year and received the Daughters of the American Revolution good citizenship award. , Miss Williams' brother, Chris topher, was one of 24 students initiated last week Into Pi Mu Epsilon, mathematics honorary. He is a Junior in general sci ence. Young Williams is also an honor roll student with a record of top grades in both high school and the university. Floral Piece Design Is Demonstrated for Central Point Women Central Point Mrs. W. L. Walden demonstrated the de signing of floral pieces for mem bers of Central Point Garden club last Wednesday. The meet ing, held at the home of Mrs. O. T. Wilson, began with dessert luncheon. Assisting the hostess were Mrs. Loyd Seymour, Mrs. J. E. Vincent and Mrs. E. W. Jer mark. Officers were elected. They are Mrs. W. B. Kincald, presi dent; Mrs. Clem Ault, vice pres ident; Mrs. Seymour, secretary; Mrs. Don Faber, treasurer; Mrs. Leonard Freeman, librarian and Mrs. C. W. Anhorn, historian. The club will sponsor a Cen tral Point 4-H club girl at the Lake O' Woods 4-H camp. Prizes were received by Mrs. A. M. Setness and Mrs. E. E. Reames. Members are to meet Thurs day, May 29, at the home of Mrs. Bert Elliott to make sprays for the Memorial Day services. Coffege Honor Group Elects New Officers Ashland Sigma Epsilon PI, women's honorary sorority at Southern Oregon college, named Miss Marie G. Mansfield, Ash land, president for the coming year at elections held this week, according to Miss Dorothy Win ters, Portland retiring president. Other officers chosen were Miss Beverly Jones, Klamath Falls, vice-president; Miss Ruth Newton, Ashland, secretary; and Miss Gracia Brown, Ashland, treasurer.
