TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Society and Clubs High School Girls Plan Annual Event Thursday Afternoon Girls' league of Medford Sen ior High school will give the an nual Mother-Daughter tea Thurs day, May 1, at 2 p.m. in the au ditorium. All mothers of senior high school girls are invited to attend. A program will precede the tea hour. Girls in the home econ omics department will stage a skit during which clothing made during the year will be modeled. Musical numbers will be given, and Girls' league awards an nounced. Miss JoAnn Larson is presi dent of the league. The annual mother-daughter event is one of the features of the nnual Girls' league week. Yes terday was observed as big and little sister day. today is slack day, Thursday will be marked by the tea and Friday will be print "n cord day, and in the evening a girls' date dance will be held. To Install Medford Council of Parent Teacher associations will be guests of the Washington PTA unit for a meeting Thursday, May 1, at 1:15 p.m. It will be held in the upstairs hall of the YMCA. DOUBLE EVERY Main at Holly Sorority Elects Miss Doris Drost To State Office Miss Dolores Lee, 408 Plnza apartments, was hostess April 21 for a meeting of Alpha Lambda chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority. Miss Doris Drost gave a re port on the state convention held recently in The Dalles. She was elected to the office of state parliamentarian for the coming year. Officers were elected by the chapter. They are Miss Drost, president; Mrs. Fred Stammcn, v I c e-prcsident; Mrs. Evelyn Dickenson, treasurer and Mrs. Chester Peterson, secretary. Installation of officers will be held May 5 at Girls Community club. Installation Held By Gold Hill Groups Gold Hill Henry G. Albrecht was Installed commander of Gold Hill post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Mrs. Lena Laricks president of the auxiliary in a ceremony Sunday at Gold Hill Grange hall. Mrs. John Walker, Shady Cove, District 7 president, was installing officer for the auxili ary. Assisting Mrs. Walker were Mrs. Augusta Hall, Medford, Mrs. Beryl Watson, Mrs. Ted Hopkins and Mrs. Bertha Smith, Rogue Rlxer; Mrs. Mabel Drink water, Grants Pass; Mrs. Pat Close, Shady Cove and Mcs dames Nora Walker, Albert O'Toole, Marie Roach, Richard Schulz and O. O. DcBerry, all Medford. William Bell, Medford, past commander, Installed the post of ficers with Merle Beneka, Med ford, as aide and Ted Hopkins, Rogue River, adjutant, Mrs. Laricks was presented a past president's pin and Mrs. Lillle McKay a past chaplain's pin. Mrs. Whltmore, who had served three years as secretary, was presented a gift, and gifts were also presented to the In stalling team. Gold Hill Club Holds Installation Service Gold Hill Mrs. Lester Thomp son was installed president of Past Noble Grands club of Ame thyst Rcbekah lodge at a meet ing Thursday at, the home of Mrs. Earl Moore, Second avenue. She succecled Mrs. Wilbur Mar tin, i Mrs. Lester Parker was in stalled vice-president and Mrs. Moore, treasurer. The newly elected secretary, Mrs. Darwell Hendrickson, unable to attend, was installed by proxy. Mrs. Paul Thompson, past president, was installing officer. The retiring and new presidents were presented corsages of spring flowers, the gift of Mrs Georg? Dorman. During a business meeting con ducted by Mrs. Martin, members voted to make a contribution of fifty cents each in lieu of hold ing a cooked food sale or bazaar. Amethyst Friend gifts were re ceived by several members and refreshments were served by the hostess. Next meeting wns sched uled for Thursday, May 22, at .) p.m. at the home of Mrs. Frank Carter, Old Stage road. Griffin Creek Women To Meet on Friday Griffin Creek Extension unit will meet Friday, May 2, with Mrs. Ed Goehring, 2320 Kings highway, at 10:30 a.m. The les son will be given by Mrs. Dan Neill and Mrs. Evelyn Fosdal on "Belts, Buckles and Buttons." Members attending Hre asked to take scissors, pins, thimble, nee dle and thread. A potluck luncheon will be served at noon, nnd women are asked to take table service. The panel discussion was led by Wesley Stauffer, seventh grade teacher at Prospect. Mrs. J. Heston Grieve spoke as the parent, and six students pre sented their opinions on the sub ject. The students were JoAnne Ilollenbcak, Bruce Pingle, Judy Porter, Clarence Neville, Leon ard Winslow and Helen Robert son. During the business meeting, Mrs. George Hubbard and Mrs. Lou Rogers reported on the re cent convention of the Oregon Congress of Parents and Teach ers which they attended. There was also discussion on the proposed tennis court which the organization will sponsor. Mrs. Stauffer has assumed the chairmanship for the committee which is to build this court. Plans were also made for the conces sion which the group will have at the annual Prospect Jamboree in July. Mrs. George Hubbard will be chairman of this project. It was decided that the May meeting would be at 8 p.m. with refreshments only, and the men of the organization will be in charge of arrangements for this and the entertainment. Mothers of the seventh grade students headed by Mrs. Howard Gregory made the preparations for the April dinner meeting. Coffee Hour Held At Veterans' Home Mrs. Charles Champlin, so prano, and John W. Eads, magi cian, furnished entertainment for the last Red Cross coffee hour at Camp White. Mrs. Champlin was accompanied by Mrs. H. E. Marsh. Cookies were furnished by women of St. Mark's church. Assisting at the coffee hour were Mrs. Margaret Fabrick and Mrs. Warren Elliott, represent ing the guilds of St. Mark's church; Mrs. Clyde T. Ramsey, Mrs. Walter Carson and Mrs. Ed win Donnelly of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and Mrs. M. W. Pearce, Red Cross chairman. Applegate Association Plans Final Meeting Applegate Applegale Parent Teacher association will hold its last meeting of the year Friday, May 2, at 8 p.m. at the school house. ,f New officers will be installed. These officers are president, Mrs. Charley Gibson; vice-president, Mrs. Ed Goodwin; secretary, Mrs. Fred Nielsen, and treasur er, Mrs. Carl Herriott. All residents of the Applegate school district are Invited to at tend this meeting and help com plete this years' program. Plans for the annual play day to be held at the Ruch school May 15, will be discussed. I! The party was given at the West Side Fire station. Guests were Mesdames George Shreeve, Charles Hobbs, Truman Nelson, Kenneth Stockoff, Otis Johnson, Dale Davis, Newman Caster, Edgar Evans, Floyd Courtright, Joseph Jensen, Theo dore Marcisz, LeRoy Williams, Mitchell Milich, Douglas Daw son, Robert Swindler, Stanley Malquist, Warren Renner, Ver non Ritchie, John Hamlin, Flor ence Winters and the guest of honor. Games were played, with prizes going to Mrs. Hobbs, Mrs. Renner, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Barker. Refreshments followed presen tation of the gifts. Joint Meeting Held By Gold Hill Groups Gold Hill Gold Hill Lady Lions and the Hobby club held a joint meeting Thursday night at the home of Mrs. John Jore, North 99 Highway. During the business session conducted by Mrs. J. Les Graffis, Lady Lions president, a letter was read from Norman J. Felder, former Camp White veteran pro tege of the club, saying he is now in Barnes General hospital in Vancouver, Wash., and has un dergone another operation on his leg. Mrs. Graffis asked all club members to send letters and get-well cards to him. Mrs. Ruby Cary, Grants Pass, demonstrated rug-making as the entertainment feature of the eve ning. The hostess served refresh ments. Next meeting of the Lady Lions was scheduled for Thurs day, May 8, at 8 p.m. at the Dardanelle Dinner house on the Old Stage road. It will be a non dinner meeting, with refresh ments. The Hobby club will meet Fri day, May 2, at 8 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Charles Hansen, North 99 highway. Phoenix PTAPIans Meeting Thursday Phoenix Last meeting of Phoenix Parent-Teacher associa tion for the school year will be held Thursday, May 1, at 2:30 p.m. in the high school gymna sium. Mrs. Fred Shepard will report on the state convention recently held in Pendleton, girls in the high school home economics classes will stage a style show, modeling clothing ' made this year, and 'new officers for next year will be installed by Mrs. Andrew. Stevens, first president of the association. Refreshments will be furnish ed by mothers of high school students and served by girls in the home economics department of the school. Mrs. Henry Dooms is chairman, and serving with her will be Mrs. Sarah Tolle, Mrs. Charles Dooms, Mrs. Fred Purdin, Mrs. Walton Mee and Mrs. Louise Southerland. The monthly sewing and busi ness meeting of Wenonah club will be held at Redman hall Thursday, May 1, at 10 a.m. A covered dish luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m. and a busi ness meeting will follow. Mrs. Carl Ludwig, president of the club, will take charge of the dinner and meeting. Pocahontas lodge will convene at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Redman hall. Mrs. Alfred Coffman will preside. Women Attend District Meeting Mrs. Albert Huntemann, Med ford, reports that about 50 wom en and pastors attended the sixth annual convention of Lutheran Ladles' aid conference of Southern Oregon held Sunday In Klamath Falls. Mrs. Hunte mann, president of the confer ence, is a member of St. Peter's Lutheran church here. The conference adopted as Its new project the setting up of a scholarship fund for young men studying for the ministry. The Grange Griffin Creek Grange Griffin Creek Grange met April 24. Earl Croft related his experience with sprinkler irriga tion, i Mr. Sutherland from the Health department gave an in formative talk on rural sanita tion. Next meeting, May 8 will be in charge of the men and will honor Mother's Day. The pro gram will include entertainment and refreshments.
