Henry Cab ot Lodge Jr. of Massachusetts said that In primaries In which Gen. Dwlght D. Eisenhower was on the ballot "he has shown that he is the best vote-getter the Republican party has." Staisen Harold E. Stassen said that "at such occasion as it becomes appropriate" for his delegates "to exercise their choice, they are free to cast their votes for General Eisenhower." Three Escaped Convicts Taken in Routine Check Vincenncs, Ind. (U.R)Three fu gitives from Porcupine Moun tain Prison Camp In Ontonagon, Mich., captured in a stolen truck during a routine traffic check, were held In federal custody Sat urday. FBI agents said the men, all from Michigan, admitted driving a stolen truck from near the prison to Vincennes, where traf fic policemen stopped and ar rested them. The FBI said that Patrick Mc Kelvie, 22, Sault Sainte Marie, Paul Arsenault, 22, L'Anse, and Howard L. Bclote, 24, Union City, would be arraigned on a Dyer Act charge. Harris, 23, Oregon State College senior from Portland, was re ported in "critical" condition Saturday at Good Samaritan hos pital here after he was injured when a piece of chemical engi neering equipment exploded. Harris was hit by a piece of pipe thrown from liquid air equipment as he watched an ex periment in the Industrial re search building. Hospital attendants said Har ris suffered internal injuries when' the five-foot section of pipe struck him across the right side and back. Picture was made when she appeared in Los Angeles court to obtain divorce from Clark Gable; (International) San Francisco, CU R) The min istry committee of the 1952 Gen eral Conference of The Metho dist Church will consider at a later date the controversial rec ommendation that women be al lowed full ministerial status. At Friday's meeting of the group, discussion on the issue was called off when it was noted that a reporter was taking notes of the proceedings. General Opposition Up to the time that discussion ceased, the motion was faced with general opposition among the committee members who dis agreed with a sub-committee which advocated full status for women in the ministry. Dr. James S. Chubb, of the Nebraska Conference, heads the sub-committee which recom mended the ministry committee concur in the opinion and rec ommend the step to the General Conference. Just as the matter was about to be presented to committee vote, a member addressed the chairman, asking if any mem bers of the press were present at tne open session. A disclosure that the reporter was present, brought a motion to close debate and the discus sion was postponed until a later date. It was pointed out that under present Methodist Church law. women can attain ministerial status with certain limitations. lhey cannot, however, attend General Conferences in that ca pacity nor is there any provi sion for advancement through the ministerial ranks to more re- EDWARDINE KNIGHT Mrs. Edwardine Knight, 89, of 521 Edwards street, died Fri day in a local hospital. WILLIAM FERNS Services lor William John Ferns, who died Thursday, will be held in Conger-Morris chapel Monday at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. E. J. Clark officiating. Com mittal will be in the Phoenix cemetery. Mr. Ferns was born Dec. 28, 1884, in Mahaska County, la., the son of the late William T. and Amelia Ferns. He came to southern Oregon from Iowa with his parents in November, 1897, and on Nov. 8, 1930, in Med ford, he was maried to Myrtle Hoffman, who survives. He was a charter member of the Phoenix Grange, and for many years had been a member of Ashland Lodge No. 45, IOOF. In addition to his widow, he is survived by a son, William J. Jr., at home; two stepsons, A. A. Hoffman, with the U. S. Navy, Alameda, Calif.; and E. M. Hoff man, Prineville; four brothers. The ship is expected to arrive at San Francisco port of em barkment today. The bodies will be sent with an escort to the point designat ed by next of kin.
