Officers Candidate Schools To Open To Air Personnel Both men and women on ac tive duty in the United States Air Force who have completed high school may apply for of ficers' candidate school on May 1, according to M. Sgt. Virgil U. Garver, station commander of the Medford recruiting office. High school graduates enlist ing in the Air Force may make applications while they are tak ing their basic training at Parks Air Fprce base, Oakland, Cal. Female applicants will continue to go to Lackland Air Force base, San Antonio, Texas, Garver said, and male personnel on active duty in the air force may also make application for pilot or observer training. Graduates May Apply Garver also noted that high school graduates may apply for OCS school from the local re cruiting station before they en list, provided they are between the ages of 18'4 and 28 years, without regard to dependency status or prior service. This en listment is for period of two years. On the college level, he point ed out that "because of the criti cal need for specialists, the Fdurth Air Force will grant di rect commissions to approximate ly 300 graduates possessing the necessary qualifications," ac cording to the commanding gen eral of the Fourth Air Force. Garver said the general cited the greatest need being for of ficer specialists in communica tions, procurement and produc tion, special Investigation, legal, weather, psychological warfare, engineering and scientific fields. OSC Journalism Head Named for New Post Corvallis U.R Fred M. Shide ler, for 20 years head of the Journalism department at Ore gon State college, Wednesday was named director of a newly created office of information at the school. Shideler, who has been dlrec tor of the college news bureau since 1950, will continue as head of the journalism school. Samuel H. Bailey, who has been on the teaching staff for five years, be comes head of the news bureau and assistant professor of Journalism. Kefauver Will Enter South Dakota Primary Washington (U.R) Sen.
