Alice dry Note it stated that over two hundred young men under 30 have become millionaires in the United States since .the end of "World War II. That claim I doubt. Still several young fel lows have proved it is still pos sible to become a millionaire in a brief period. As for example, Hal Zimmerman, who began his career selling watches by mail. He now has one of the largest mail order outfits in this coun try. That mail order field has great possibilities. I advise young fellows to check on it Sidelights How many earrings has your wife lost lately? Does she know there is on the market something called an "earring guard" that prevents such losses? . . . Smok ers who inhale absorb 10 times as much nicotine as those who don't. Among the Married Recently wives who are iderv tical twins sued their husbands for divorce on identical grounds. They said their husbands "yelled" at them. Divorces were granted. Do you ever yell at your loving wife, mister? Better be careful. That is, unless she yells back. Then it is all right. Gives you both a chance to let off ateam. Is an emotional release Incidentally, the claim that a soft answer turneth away wrath doesn't always work with a wife. A soft answer seems to increase the anger of many wives. Ave rage woman likes a man who will fight back. Get It Right I said the official song of the New Orleans Mardi Gras was titled "If I Ever Cease to Love." A Crescent City subscriber, de manding a stogie, states it ii "If Ever I Cease to Love," and he quotes one line as follows: "May all dogs wag their tails in front if ever I cease to love." . Briefly "It was Renee Odoree who played Charmaine in the original film version of 'What Price Glory,'" says a San Franciscan. Renee Odoree played a somewhat similar part in "The Big Pa rade." Dolores Del Rio was the original film Charmaine. . . . Add members My Name Is a Poem Club: Anita Civita, Pleasanl ville, N. Y. . . . The law in Argentina is that a dismissed employe must be paid a month's wages for every year of service. Mules St Man The preference of many young women for middle-aged men as husbands continues. It has been cynically observed that this is be cause men of that age can offer a girl more security than the young fellows. Also because they are more "appreciative" of the affection bestowed upon them by a younger woman. However some young women deny security has anything to do with it. To this argument Joan Crawford re cently added the following obser vation: "The young lover is an amateur. Till a woman is 30 and her husband is at least 35, it is strictly high school stuff." Asking Queries from clients. Q You say Lee Ma gee, whose real name was Leopold Hoernschmeyer, was "a major league infielder." He was an outfielder. Stogie, please. A The stogie is on you, mister. Lee Magee was an in fielder. You are thinking of an other fellow, Sherwood Magee, was was an outfielder. Trackless Trolleys Any trackless trolleys in your town? How do you like them. Last year 7,000 trackless trolleys earned $7,000,000 for city transit systems. During the same period 58,000 buses showed a net loss of $2,000,000. So I am reliably informed. Great Play The greatest war play I ever saw was "Journey's End." At a film it wasn't much. That, in my view, was because exterior scenes were shown. On the stage all the scenes took place in a trench. The power in the piece was in the fact that those in the audi ence had a chance to give their imagination full play. They felt as if they were in that trench too. That was a psychological angle that escaped the producers of the film. Young Mothers The observations young moth ers make as to their offspring, especially when same is a first child, . are most interesting. A Chelsea, Mass., subscriber says her three months old daughter blows her nose. That when she. the mother, holds the handker chief to her infant's nose the child blows it. Is this unusual?" asks the proud mokher. Blind Man Works To Build Own House Oakville, Conn. UJ9 Car-! men Ezzo is gratified when ' friends tell him that the house he's building by himself is good looking. Ezzo will never see it himself. He is blind. Two years ago, he undertook ' the Job, despite protests by neigh bors that he was "crazy." They asked, "How can he hit a nail? ; How can he saw a straight line?" ; Ezzo, who is about 50, soon proved that he could comren-i sate for lack of sight Having had ! experience as a carpenter. ! plumber and electrician before! his eyes gave out six years ago, j he has done nearly all of the ' work on the two-story, eight room structure himself. ! Friends helped dig the base-' ment and lay the attic floor but "everything else I've done alone," Ezzo said. "The frame, roof, siding, upstairs windows, partitions and shingling . . . everything is my work."
