NBC LBS if Dr. Huzlock As We Live EVERYONE HAS THE SIGHT TO PRIVACY The desire or privacy is s universal human desire. Even little children like to feel that they can have secrets and they resent having to tell things -they don't want to tell. By the time the child has grown in to a teenager, this desire for privacy makes a teenager boil with fury. If this were recog nized more widely than it is, much of the friction in homes would be eliminated. The fol lowing letter expresses the point of view typical of boys and girls of the teens: Q. "I am 15 years old and I have room to myself. My two brothers, ages 5 and 13 years, are always coming Into my room and bothering mo or looking into my drawers. I tall my mother and she threatens thorn but it has not dona much good. They forgot and come in again. I like the privacy of my room like other teenage grils. What can I do about ihia?" TJf. A. Of course you like privacy and you are entitled to have it. You brothers, I am sure, would be the first ones to become an gry and go running to your mother if you went through their possessions. Threatening them will not bring results. . A threat is a case of meaningless words. After it has been used several times and ends there, with no carry through of the threatened pun ishment, it soon falls on deaf ears. Call family council Why not call a family council and put the matter squarely be fore them? Explain your point of view and let the other mem bers of the family do likewise. i oeneve tney.wiu all feel as you do. .. Then, as a family unit, decide upon rules to regulate and en force the privacy and property Cetntsrm r ILIZAIETH HURL0CK. HID. rights of every member of the family. In addition, make rules regarding the punishments to be given if and when they are broken. Once the rules are made, see that they are enforced. Only when people take a firm stand can they hope to make others see that they mean what they say. It is up to you to de mand your rights and not permit your brothers cr anyone else to violate them. Elisabeth Hurlock is one of the nation's' greatest psycholo gists, and she will gladly help you with personal problems. (Copyright 1952, , General Features Corp.) WATER BOY GOES WEST Spencer, W. Va. M.D. fet WWlata In and Around Eagle Point HOW TO WORRY THE NEIGHBORS To the dismay of the neigh- it, Dr. steady bors and their teachers our four children go without hats, coats or any tuner clothing they'd rather not wear, at any time of year and in any weather. You see (the lucky young sters' father writes), we feel they art not idiots, so they know whether they have enough on to keep comfortable. The children have suffered no ill effects. They have had c-r-i only rarely and always it has ob viously been caught from some one who was careless about spreading infection. When our 11 year old daughter had sore throat the doctor called it ton sillitis and said her tonsils should be removed. She was well in a day or two and still has her ton sils. Other children in the neigh borhood had sore throat at the same time, but they had already undergone tonsillectomy, so they had "gland trouble" nothing to remove! (T. L.) The dismay of the neighbors Is the usual reaction of the un teachable but it is sad to find school teachers reacting like that. Perhaps that explains why the schoolroom is the most likely place to catch the c-r-i (common respiratory miecuons such as measles, diphtheria, scarlet fe ver, poliomyelitis, cerebro-spinal meningitis, simple sore throat, tonsillitis whooping cough, in fluenza, coryza). Doctors, school nurses, school teachers and parents who lay back their long ears and ascribe indispositions and illnesses they do not recognize to "cold," in spite of all modern scientific knowledge to the contrary I hope the article I submitted for publication here Saturday, Jan. 12 wag printed without too much News o4-H Qclubs Applegate Beef Club Applegafe Beef club met joint ly with the other livestock and forestry clubs on March 21. called to order by the president of the Dairy club.
