Joe Nixon, 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Nix on, 3154 Dark Hollow road, is confined to the hospital for med ical treatment. Mrs. Orvil Hor ton, 230 Beatty street, had sur gery there Tuesday. Building Parmils Mrs. M. Fluhrer has received a $1,000 building permit to remodel the Acme building at Sixth and Fir streets, the city building inspect or's office reported today. A per mit has also been granted to Ken Paine for construction of a radio shop and store building valued at $3,000 at 627 North Central avenue, building department rep resentatives said. They were in Mexico for the winter and were en route to Seattle when they visited here. They were greatly impressed with the Rogue valley and plan to return soon, relatives here said today. Obituary EDWARD CARTER Services for Edward H. Carter, 39, who died at Camp White Monday, will be held in the Camp White V. A. Domiciliary center chapel Friday at 2 p. m. with Chaplain Henry W. Ander son officiating. Committal will be in the new Camp White ceme tery. Conger-Morris funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Members of veterans' organiza tions, auxiliaries and friends have been asked to attend the services. Members of the Military Order of Lady Bugs and Cooties were particularly requested to be there. This is the second vet eran's funeral at Camp White and the new cemetery to be at tended by these organizations. Mr. Carter was born June 27, 1892, in Arkansas, and was a veteran of World War I, serving from Sept. 5, 1918, to Dec. 23, 1918, as a private, Company "F," 8th Battalion, Repl. Tr. Burich, 2303 Hill crest road. The speaker, also a member of the state executive commit tee of the Republican party, will take the place of State Rep. Paul Geddes, Roseburg, who is ill and unable to fill the engagement. The public is invited to the meeting which . will concern a proposed amendment to the Ore gon state constitution on reap portionment of representation .in the house and senate, based on both Area needs and population, as provided by the constitution, league women added. Previous proposals for reapportionment have been based primarily on population, they said. Klamath Irishman Would Enter Army Klamath Falls U.R) Jere miah McAuliffe. 24 -year -old Irishman, told his local draft board Thursday he is willing to enter the U. S. army despite a treaty of friendship with Ireland which could prevent him from being drafted. McAuliffe and three other Klamath county youths will go to Portland for induction into the armed serivce April 9. Two other natives of Ireland living in Lakeview, Ore., recent ly refused to be inducted through selective service and the Lake county draft board resigned in protest. . Wife Takes Mate's Place On Cot in Ambulance Marion, 111. iUB Warren Hastings gave up his ambulance cot to his wife, who was accom panying him home, from the hos pital. . After stopping, the ambulance and conferring with the family doctor at his office, Mrs. Hast ings slipped on the stairs and suffered a broken collar bone and ankle. Hatcher was arrested, at 6 p. m. yesterday at a Medford bus depot None of the checks were accepted. , In the statement the man ad mitted passing fraudulant checks in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana! He also stated that he had a previous criminal record involving bad check and grand larceny charges and had served a term in a federal prison for felonies committed while he was in the army, police said.
