The luncheons and shows, held each spring and fall, prove entertaining to the valley's style conscious women, as well as providing them an opportunity to contribute to worthy causes, and add sizeable sums to the league's hospital charity funds. Started a few years ago, the annual events were one-day functions, but so popular did they become that now they are re peated a second day. Even so, there is always a scramble for reservations and those who delay are often unable to secure a ticket. " .League members and their children served as models for the shows. Shown above is Mrs. Tod Tibbutt modeling an Alpine paradise print blouse and skirt with matching parasol against a background of potted plants which the league members sold both days to add to the treasury. The little miss at the right is three-year-old Barbara Collins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Collins, wearing the blue and white petticoat dress and small bonnet which she modeled In the shows. Mqst of the children take to modeling like ducks to water and the "Parade of the Moppets" this year, as in past years, was a highlight both days. Shown at upper right is Mrs. David W. (oblik who posed for the photographer wearing a Helen of California dress and jacket of black and gold cotton which she modeled. Her hat is of black straw. i Many of the guests arrived at the clubhouse in groups or gathered together to chat before luncheon was served. Although they were to see a parade of spring and summer fashions, the cold March winds blew rather hard that day and most of the women were wearing woot suits or furs. ILfc- 'r iVI - ' , 1 t 1 5& v hats were concerned, though, and dark straws with colorful flowers or ribbons, or brightly colored straw hats Were seen on dozens of the guests, as well as the models. Shown at lower left talking together, (left to right) are Mrt 'Earl Leever, Mrs. P. A. Chitwood, Mrs. Lee Mellish and Mrs. L. W. Bates. At lower right (left to right) are Mrs. A. W. McCormick, wear ing fur coat, Mrs. Joe Naumes, Mrs. W. A. Spangler, Mrs. Georg Hurst and Mrs. D. Ford McCormick, who made up a family party to attend the luncheon and show. Mrs. Hurst is Mrs. A. W. McCor mick's daughter and Mrs. Naumes and Mrs. Spangler are daugh ters of Mrs. D. Ford McCormick. The Mesdames McCormick ar sisters-in-law. Mrs. George Rasmussen was general chairman for the ar rangements. Mrs. James Cummins is president of the league this year, and to Mrs. Wilton A. White, league treasurer, foils th pleasant task of counting up the money made on the event. The busy members of the service league have carried on in recent years a most extensive program of charity. Each month of the year the league gives $50 to Community and to Sacred Heart hospitals. This $100 monthly always goes to aid child patients, easing somewhat for the parents the heavy financial burden brought by long and disastrous illnesses. In addition the league, when sufficient funds have been ac cumulated, presents "bonus" checks to the two hospitals for varying sums and these are used to purchase equipment or for -ther hospital needs. For the year ending June, 1951, the service league also con tributed $50 monthly to the county's juvenile shelter home and another major effort is maintenance of the canteen for the Red Cross blood bank. The league not only buys supplies for this service, but the members staff the canteen. In addition, the group contributes to the various fund drives carried on each year in the city and county.
