White House feuds. SOC Reg For Spr Beg istration ing Quarter ins Tomorrow Ashland The spring recess at Southern Oregon college will end tomorrow when registration for spring quartet will begin. Classes will reconvene on Tuesday and the term will continue through June 6. Valley residents interested in enrolling in the eight evening classes to be offered this spring may do so by calling at the regis trar's office or may register at the first meeting of the class, ac cording to Mrs. Mabel W. Wins ton, registrar. Still Some Openings Mrs. Winston reported that classes in photography and cera mics have nearly been filled, but openings still exist in contem porary novel, vocal music les sons, speech and diction, con temporary problems social dance and folk dance. The first night class to convene will be that of speech and dic tion offered Tuesday evenings by Leon C. Mulling, associate pro fessor of speech. Special campus activities scheduled for the spring term in clude the AAUW conference for young women on March 29; the annual faculty follies April 3, 4 and 5; senior visitation weekend April 25, 26 and 27; the Jackson County Elementary Music festi val May 7; campus day and mothers' week-end. Employees Receive Long-Service Pins R. D. Church, Ward L. Lamp kin and F. Scott Bauman of the local Weather Bureau's Medford airport station recently received length of service awards from the Department of Commerce in the form of lapel buttons. Church's button indicates 20 years service. His tour of duty with the Weather Bureau started in Pasco, Wash., in June, 1931 After 4 years of desert service, he spent 2 years in Pendleton 4 years in Spokane, lVz years traveling throughout Washing ton, Oregon, Idaho and Montana as an inspector, and 11 months at Glasgow, Mont. Since the spring of 1944 he has been in charge of the Medford office. 10-Year Award Bauman's service started in Akron, O., in March, 1941, en titling him to a 10-year service award. From Akron his assign ments include special training in radiosonde observations at Wash ington National airport in the spring of 1942, two months' spec ial duty at Ft. Nelson, B. C, fol lowed by three year' duty, at Northway, Alaska. Returning to the states he had five years of duty as first assistant at Toledo, O., then was transferred to Med ford at his own request in No vember, 1950. Lampkin's 10-year button was earned by his serving at stations in Cheyenne, Wyo., Prescott and Flagstaff, Ariz., Red Bluff, Calif. ciko, nev., wnere ne was in charge of the station for six years, and at Medford since July, 1951. William E. Acord of the sta tion staff previously received his 10-year award, with service dat ing from July, 1937, at , Wolf Creek, Siskiyou Summit and Medford stations. Shirts to Oregon's Congressmen Planned Salem U.R) Oregon Farm Bureau directors said Friday they would take the shirts off their backs and mail them to Oregon's congressional delega tion in protest against recent in creases in taxes. Attached to each shirt will be this note: "You are taking about everv- thing we have in taxes except my shirt, and you might as well have that, too." The 22 Oregon directors said the shirt-mailing move started with the California Farm Bureau federation and farm bureaus in other states are following suit or rather shirt. New Type Russian Jet Planes Spotted Seoul (U.PJ American Sabre- jet pilots said Friday they spot ted a full flight of new "Type 15" Communist jet fighters in MIG Alley Thursday, the first time the new enemy planes have appeared in strength. The new high-wing enemy jets refused to fight, but the Sabre- jets shot down five slightly smaller, low-winged MIG-15 jets, damaged eight and probably damaged five, more. The ground war remained stagnant, with the Reds push ing three small probes at Al lied lines on the western front. -ine communists stepped up their- shelling of UN rear posi tions. Fist Fights Fatal To Hospital Inmates Salem (U.R) Two senile oa tients of Oregon State hospital died this week after fights with other patients. Dr. C. E. Bates, superintendent, said Friday. One male patient, aee 71. was hurt Monday night when he was attacked by other inmates of the men's ward. He was treated at the infirmary and died some five hours later.- . The other male patient, age 70, was found dead m his bed in the men's ward Monday. His body bore marks of a fight but officials said the wounds were not heavy. The man had recently suffered a stroke. Dr. Bates said a contributing factor to the trouble was over crowding and shortage of attendants. Missing Woodburn Boys at Tournament Eugene (U.PJ Their school wasn't entered in the tourna ment, but five youths from the state school for boys at Wood- burn decided they'd go to see the prep basketball champion ships here this week-end. All five were picked up in downtown Eugene Friday morn ing as fugitives from the state institution. "We wanted to see the basket ball games," one said. An officer spotted them be cause they were wet and with out coats. He nabbed one immediately but the others spread out and it took police about an hour to make a complete roundup. Medford Woman Dies In Pasadena, Calif. Mrs. Marie Josephine Tomlin, wife of John R. Tomlin, died Wednesday in Pasadena, Calif., last Wednesday, it was learned here today. She was the wife of John R. Tomlin, 1503 East Main street. They were spending the winter in southern California. Funeral services will be held in the California city at 11 a.m. Monday, March 23. Survivors include Mr. and Mrs. Walter Tomlin, 204 Valley View drive, Medford. He is a nephew of the elder Tomlins. Salem flJ.PJ Public Utilities Commissioner Charles H. Helt- zel Friday authorized trucks transporting household goods to adjust their intrastate Oregon rates to conform more closely with charges for similar trans portation in interstate commerce.
