Air Force F-84 Thun derjets landed here Tuesday af ter setting what Air Force offi cials believed was a new en durance record of 2,008 miles without refuelling. The flight spanned seven na tions and took 4 hours and 48 minutes, indicating an average speed of slightly more than 418 miles per hour. . The Air Force said previous records would have to be checked before an official jet endurance record could be claimed. But a spokesman said it was the first time that such a plane was known to have cov ered more than 2,000 miles without refuelling. Normal range of an F-84 is about 1,000 miles. . Double-Parker Liable (or Damages ' Chicago (U.FD A double-park-er is liable for damages if his car holds another car captive and inconveniences the owner, ac cording to the Commerce Clear ing House. The organization, which dis seminates business and tax law news, quoted a New York court decision on double parking. The judge likened the position of the motorist to the "captive audience" of a transit company. Such audiences recently won the right in court to be free of commercial radio broadcasts while traveling in public conveyances. That means, in Washington, the annual cherry blos som festival complete with a princess from each state and a queen ruling over all, thou sands of visit ors, and mil lions of beau tiful blossoms on the cherry Harmon Nichols trees around tne liual iasin. Very colorful. We got the cherry trees from Japan. A gift. In 1908 Yukio Ozaki was the mayor of Tokyo. He wanted to give something to the United States.. Seems that President Theodore Roosevelt had helped engineer the end of the Russo-Japanese war in 1905. Arranged the meeting which ended with the Treaty of Plym outh. Ozaki sent the cherry trees. Three thousand trees which would blossom but produce no fruit. But oh, so beautiful. Shipment Infested The shipment was bug-infested. The Department of Agricul ture said they could not be planted in the United States. They were burned. Hurt feelings were salved and Japan sent another shipment of cherry trees to "Washington. This time they were bug-free. Under the direction of Mrs. Wil liam Howard Taft, wife of the then president, the trees were planted around the Tidal Basin. The trees grew and grew and are still growing. They produce nice blossoms every year. They bring lots of people to town. The visitors spend much money during festival time. The fes tival is a profitable affair. No Cooperation A few years ago the weather man didn't cooperate with the committee in charge of festi val festivities. He brought out the blooms ahead of time. Although clay tile has been used by man for dwellings and churches for more than 4,000 years .floor and wall tile was not manufactured in the United States until 1845.
