tellers Explaining Personal Property Tax Check Readied Letters to all firms on the personal property tax rolls, ex plaining that each will be checked, were being addressed at the county assessor's office Saturday and it was planned to place the letters in the mail Monday. The feet that some merchants have not been putting full val ues on their inventories resulting to unfairness to others, prompt ed the action. Deputy Assessor Andrew Haw- er said that businessmen should not take personal offense if they have made honest returns and asked for their cooperation and immediate attention to the letters. Hawver also asked that firms realize what the assessor's office Is up against. He stated that progress is being made on equal ization but that it is a tremen dous task. He said that the work has thrown the office out of gear, that it has deadlines to meet and that the more quickly the task can be accomplished the sooner office work will be back in order. Three Youths Jailed On Bad Check Charge Thre youths are being held in the county jail for passing bad checks at Anderson's Super Thrift market, 711 South Cen tral avenue, Friday night, city police said yesterday. New Instructor For ORC Arrives Capt. Joseph A. Peacock ar rived in Medford last week to assume the duties of unit in structor for. the Organized Re serve corps here. He replaces Capt. Richard Drewry, who Sas been assigned to the infantry school at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Captain Peacock served with the 2nd division in Korea un til he was wounded there. He has spent most of the time since last July in Madigan General hospital recovering from a shat tered right arm. As unit instructor, Captain Peacock will be in charge of in struction for the 382nd Quarter master battalion, the 304th Logis tical command and the 6402nd Logistical command. His office is in the Federal building, 33 North Riverside avenue, and he also has Klamath Falls units in his area, and Grants Pass will soon be added to his responsibil ity.
