Miss Helen Schatz, Portland, became the bride of Gordon J. Read at a single ring ceremony performed in Medford Sacred Heart Catholic church . parish house February 14.-The Rev. C. J. Linahan read the service at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. The bridegroom's sister, Miss Helen Read, was maid of honor. For her wedding the bride chose a dress of white with me tallic thread and she wore a matching hat. Her corsage was an orchid.- ' i The maid of honor wore a dusty rose taffeta dress with a green orchid corsage. M. G. Read, a brother of the bridegroom, gave the bride in marriage. ". A reception was given by Mr. and Mrs.' Clayton J. Walker at their home, 129 North Oakdale avenue. St. Valentine's day dec orations were served. Mrs. G. F. Brood, a great aunt of the bride groom served the wedding cake and "Mrs. H. B. Hickman poured the punch. The couple made a wedding trip to northern California. They will live at Ft. Seward,. Calif., where the bridegroom is a mill owner. He was released from the Navy last fall. The bride is a nurse. Her par ents live in Wisconsin. The bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Read, 1320 Beatty street. Out-of-town guess included Mrs. James N. Beckham of Port land, and James Read, brother of the bridegroom. St. Patrick's Party Planned by Group Jacksonville St. Patrick's day will be theme of the "fun" night program of the Presbyteri an church 20-80 club when they meet Saturday, March 15, at 6:30 p. m., in the church parlors. Irish songs will be sung and there will be games for all, of ficers said. Families of the community, whether members of the club or church or not, are invited. A potluck dinner will be served. R. Gregg, Freeman road, Wednesday, with 12 mem bers and two guests, Mrs. Shir ley Kelly and Mrs. Maude Cul bertson, present. Members sewed on layette articles after lunch eon. A social hour was spent in playing games. Regular business meeting will be Wednesday, March 12 at 2 p.m. at home of Mrs. Eva Camp bell, 823 Laurel street. A vote on the year's project is to be taken. Each is to bring a pack age of seeds for the "Seeds for Democracy" campaign for the Philippine republic. Seeds want ed are green string beans, Chi nese cabbage, green pepper, mus tard, egg plant, collards, cucum ber, watermelon, kohlrabi and loose leaf letuce. Rector To Be Speaker For WCTU on Thursday Woman's Christian Temper ance union will hear the Rev George R. V. Bolster, rector of the St. Mark's Episcopal church, speak on his work as a mission ary in the northern part of Can ada, when they meet Thursday. The meeting will be at 2 p. m. in the Girls Community club. Mrs. W. T. Frost will lead devotionals and Mrs. Howard Bush will furnish special music. A short resume of the national WCTU official paper will be presented. ' Refreshments will be served by Mrs. Ira E. McDonald and her committee from the Free Methodist church women. ? Roxy Ann Gem Club To Aleef on Friday Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral club will hold a monthly meet ing Friday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Girls Community club. A lecture on local gem material and a display of rocks in the rough will be given. Everyone interested is invited to attend. Artist Instructor For laboratories' Class; Holds One Man Show : Eugene Bennett, Medford art ist now teaching at New Trier high school, Winnetka. nL, also is instructing in art at the Ab bott Laboratories in North Chi cago, according to news received by relatives here.' There are more than 50 students enrolled in the Abbott Artists' club under Mr. "ennett's direction, according to trie company's house organ, "Pharmagraph," In which Mr. Eennett is pictured with officers of the art club. The artist recently completed his first one-man show in Chi cago at the Bordelon gallery there. He exhibited silkscreens, oils, monoprints and pen and ink work. All were abstractions. .He also teaches an adult eve ning class at New Trier and at tends the Chicago Art Institute, doing graduate work toward his master's degree. a . Art Supervisor Jo Speak for Unit "Art and Music Education for Tomorrow's Citizen" is the topic announced for the March meet ing of Jackson Parent-Teacher association. The meeting will be held Friday, March 14, at 2:30 p. m., in the school auditorium. Miss Jacqueline Rosling, art supervisor, will speak and pre sent an art exhibit to show what is being accomplished in this field in the Medford schools. Mrs. Delia Weber of the Jack son, faculty will present mem bers of the fifth and sixth grade choruses in a group of songs to demonstrate music education in the schools. " . In addition to the program, arranged by Mrs. Jack Harney, a business session will be held for election of officers for the coming year, Mrs. C. H. Reid, president, announced yesterday. Mrs. C. Marion Smith, chair man of the nominating commit tee, will present the slate of can didates chosen by the com mittee. Two Medford Women Honor Guests Monday At Central Point Party Central Point A birthday party for Mrs. Fay Goddard and Mrs. James Westensee, both Medford, was given Monday in the home of Mrs. Hugh Glenn, Central Point. Mrs. Glenn was assisted by Mrs. Vern Jackson, Medford. Refreshments were served,' and the guests participated in games. The honored guests were presented gifts. Photography Photography will be the theme of the program when members of the afternoon arts group of American Association of Uni versity Women meet Monday in the home of Mrs. W. W. How ard, 1507 West Main street. The assisting hostess will be Mrs. Raymond Smith and lunch eon will be served at 1 p. m. Mrs. P. F. Brainerd will dis cuss the many changes that have been made in photography in the past 50 years. Mrs. L. L. Sanders will show pictures taken on a trip to South America. Miss Atterbury is employed as secretary for Jack son school and Mr. Schneider is employed at Luman's. The wedding will be June 22. Initiation Announced By Camp and Auxiliary Colonel Sargent camp and aux iliary, United Spanish War Vet erans, will initiate candidates during a meeting Sunday, March 16 at 1- p. m. in the Redmen hall on Apple street. A short business session will be held and a potluck dinner will precede the meeting. Mrs. Frank Wid ner is in charge of the dinner arrangements and members should call her at phone 2-2225 regarding contributions to the dinner. Mrs. Harry Barneburg, rum mage sale chairman, announced that there will be a sale spon sored by the group in the Py thian building. Thursday. March 13 from 9 a. m. to 4:30 p. m.
