TWO MEDFORD (ORECOK) MAIL TRIBUWg Easter Parade Theme This Year Of Annual Show "Easter Parade" will be the theme of Junior Service league's annual spring style show to be held Thursday and Friday, March 13 and 14. The yearly event, which always draws large audiences, will be held at Rogue Valley Country club. Luncheon will be served each day at 12:30 p. m. and for the shows which will follow, mem bers of the league will model. Various stores of the valley are cooperating with the league. Mrs. George Rasmussen Is general chairman and reserva tions are being made by calling the club. Proceeds from the show go to support the chil dren's charities which are the main projects of the league. Bridal Party Given For Miss Lois Simon; Wedding To Be Soon Miss Lois Simon was honored at a bridal party Tuesday night the home of Mrs. Edith Whillock, 1003 West Main street. Hostess for the event was Miss Marjorie Sandfort. Miss Simon, a daughter of Mr. Mr ttav Simon, Central Point, will be married soon to Darrel Stanley, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Stanley, Eagle Point. Miss Simon was presented gifts for her new home, and re freshments were served. Decor ations, in the heart theme, in cluded fortunes for each guest to read. Guests were Miss Simon, her rvntral Point: Mrs. Stanely and Mrs. Thomas Shear- In Eagle Point; Mrs. jjuhhu Ferguson, Gold Hill; Mrs. Steph en Gamble. (Brainerd photo) Ashland Vocalists To Sing Monday For Music Group Medford Music society mem bers will hear the Southern Oregon college quartet, under direction of Oscar Bjorlie, when they meet ' Monday evening in the home of Mrs. William Mc Allister on Hillcrest road. Mrs. Virgil Bolton is in charge of the program which also in cludes songs by Mrs. W. Martel Peters, Ashland soprano, accom panied by Miss Lorraine Veidt, Medford schools music super visor. The Jackson school Moth- ersingers will present a group of songs under direction of Mrs. Fred Morlan. Mr. Bjorlie is music super visor for the college and mem bers of the quartet are James Beber, Paul Adams, George Ke kuma and Lloyd Bunnell. Business of importance to members which will be discussed during the business meeting con cerns a coming concert. Bailys Return From Trip South Mr. and Mrs. James E. Bailey and Mrs. Dwin Bailey, 605 Chil ders street, recently motored to Mobile, Ala., to visit the James Bailey's son, Pfc. Dwin Bailey, at Brookley air force base. While away they attended the annual Mardi Gras festival in New Orleans. The James Baileys have re turned home, But Mrs. Dwin Bailey remained in the south to be near her husband. Degree of Honor , Director Arrives Mrs. Ethel Lindholm Hiatt, Portland, state director of De gree of Honor, arrived here Friday to conduct inspection of the Medford, Ashland and Grants Pass lodges which are under her supervision. Mrs. Hiatt will review the Medford lodge Tuesday, March 11, at 8 p. m., in the Pythian hall. M n Olive Floyd OP Miss Studebaker Becomes Bride of Cornelius Tjoelker Rogue River Miss Betty Jean Studebaker and Cornelius Henry Tjoelker were married in rites at Hope Presbyterian church in Rogue River March 2. About 125 guests attended. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob R. Studebaker, 2399 , Kings highway, Medford, and the bridegroom's . parents are Mr. and Mrs. John J. Tjoel ker, Rogue River. The Rev. D. F. Barnett per formed . the ceremony at 8:43 p.m. The bridegroom's sister. Mrs. Howard J. Phillips, of Klamath Falls, was matron of honor, and the brides sister, Miss Myrtle Studebaker, of Medford, was a bridesmaid. Other bridesmaids were Miss June Lehman and Miss Joan Anderson, both of Medford. Maureen Phillips, Klamath Falls, four-year-old niece of the bridegroom, was flower girl. John C. Tjoelker, Myrtle Creek, served as best man for his brother. Ushers were Howard J. Phil lips, and W. Roscoe Hargitt of Rogue River. The bride's father gave her in marriage. She wore a traditional white satin gown with lace trimmed finger-tip veil. Her flowers were a bouquet of gar denias and white rose buds. Mrs. Phillips wore a chartreuse taffeta and net gown and car ried a lavender carnation bou quet. She wore a matching car nation headdress. The brides sister wore a lavender taffeta and lace gown. Her bouquet was of pink carnations and she wore a lavender headdress. Miss Leh man wore a matching gown with the same shade of flowers and headdress, while Miss Anderson wore a white lace and taffeta gown with pink carnations and headdress. Candlelighters were the Misses Lucille Baird and Alice Dalton, who wore matching marquisette gowns of pale green and canary yellow. The flower girl was dressed in a blue taffeta and net dress and her headdress was white. Lavender and white stock dec orated the church. The tradi tional wedding marches were played and Mrs. Irvin Ruth sang. A reception was held in the church parlors. The bride attended Medford high school and Medford Busi ness college. She has been em ployed at Beck's bakery in Med ford. The bridegroom attended Medford and Rogue River High schools and is a farmer on Ward's Creek. He is at present master of Live Oak Grange. From out-of-town in addition to those in the wedding party were Mrs. Hilda Crowell of San Francisco; Mrs. Durward Care ago, Los Alamos, Calif., and Mrs. Arlan Thurman, Klamath Falls, all sisters of the bridegroom. The occasion also was the first family reunion of the bride groom's family since 1940. The couple made a trip to Cal ifornia and returned yesterday. Associate Matron Of Oregon OES To Visit Chapter Central Point Mrs. Leila Wimberly, Roseburg, associate grand matron of the Order of Eastern Star for Oregon, will visit Nevita chapter of the order Friday, March 14. Mrs. Wim berly will hold a school of in struction for the chapter in the Central Point Masonic hall be ginning at 7:30 p.m. . Visiting members as well as Nevita chapter members are in vited to attend. The chapter will hold a stated session Tuesday, March 11, at 8 p.m. in the temple. Following the meeting the Courtesy Girls will hold the annual carnival. All Eastern Star members are in vited to attend. Club Announces Birthday Party Past Noble Grands' club of Olive Rebekah lodge will cele brate the anniversary of organ isation when the group meets Thursday, March 13, at Girls Community club. The hour of meeting is 8 p.m. The club was organized in March of 1924. All past presidents of the club will be guests for the meeting. Mrs. Minnie Bryant is planning the program, and Mrs. A. B. Shirley heads the refreshment committee. Mrs. A. H. Hansen is . president. National Quartet To Sing in City For Civic Group The National Male quartet will sing here Friday, March 14, as the last concert of the season for Jackson County Civic Music association. The concert will be in Medford senior high school auditorium, beginning at 8:15 p. m. The quartet has a repertoire which is said to distinguish it from every other similar group in the country. The men' sing operatic num bers, American ballads, . famil iar classics which are arranged especially for them and selec tions from the outstanding c posers of the modern school. They also vary their straight quartet numbers with trios and duets. Each member of the quartet has had recognition as an indi vidual artist. Attilio Baggiore. tenor, made his operatic debut at the Teatro Real deU'Opera in Rome. Since then he has sung leading roles with the Chicago Opera company. Gene Tobin, tenor, started at the Philadel phia La Scala Opera company in 1947 and has sung in concert, opera, radio-television and on Broadway, the latter including "AUegro," "Finian's Rainbow" and "Love Life." Both Vernon Sanders, baritone, and Bruce MacKav, bass, made their op eratic debuts with the San Francisco Opera company, and sang six months of Gilbert and Sullivan repertory there before they headed east. These four singers have in common their love of ensemble music and public response has already confirmed their "convic tion that there is a large audi ence for the type of music they present. Couple Married In Service Here Marye Ruth Rietz of Caldwell, Ida., and Norris N. Wood of Nampa, Ida., were married Feb ruary 28 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Lantz, 631 West Jack son street. Mrs. Lantz is a sister of the bride. The ceremony was performed at 8:30 p.m. by Branch President W. J. Attridge of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The bride wore an orchid flocked organdy redingote over orchid embossed cotton. Pale ivory daffodils and light ed candles formed mantel decor ations for the wedding. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Latham of Eph rata, Wash. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett M. Wood of Downs, Kan. After a brief visit at the Lantz home, the couple returned to Caldwell, Ida., to make their home. 4 Mrs. Charles Coggins To Be Club Hostess Adarel Social club will meet Thursday, March 13, in the home of Mrs. Charles Coggins, 1325 Beekman avenue, at 12:30 p.m. Members are requested to take hammers with which to crack walnuts, and if any members have walnuts which they will donate to the club for a fund raising project, they will be gratefully received. Members of the Med ford auxiliary axe planning a dinner to honor Mrs. Fletcher. Oregon President Of FOE Auxiliary To Visit Medford The Fraternal Order of Eagles auxiliary will receive a visit from Mrs. Ruth Fletcher, Albany, Ore., state auxiliary president, Thursday, March 13. A dinner is being planned in her honor that evening at the Medford hotel at 5:30 p.m. Res ervations should be made by Tuesday noon by calling Mrs. Jack Meachaih, phone 2-1936. The visiting official will re port on a recent trip to Roches ter, N. Y., where she participat ed in a grand aerie forum for all state auxiliary presidents. Mrs. Fletcher also will speak regarding a state convention to be held in Albany in June. She will present trophies won recent ly by the Medford ritualistic team at Klamath Falls. She will be accompanied on her visit here by Mrs. Mary Browns, Grants Pass, state sec retary of the auxiliary. Students Attend Dance at College Miss Fidelia Boone, Miss Ann Hart and Miss JoAnne Campbell are in Corvallis this week-end to attend a formal dance given by the Oregon State college chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Miss Boone, a pledge of the chapter, expects to return to school for the spring quarter. Miss Hart and Miss Campbell are Medford high school seniors. Miss Boone is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Boone, Miss Campbell is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Campbell and Miss Hart is a daughter of Mrs. Robert Hart. President To Visit Valley Auxiliaries Members from all the southern Oregon Lions club auxiliaries are invited to attend a dinner meeting Tuesday honoring the president of the state auxiliary, Mrs. Al Crose of Salem. The event will be held in the Med ford hotel at 7 p.m. The regular meeting of the Medford Lady Lions club will also take place at that time. The event was sponsored by the Rogue River district, Mu tual Improvement association, with Mr. and Mrs. Douglas W. Shepherd in charge, and directed by the activity counsellor, Mrs. Theobald, Grants Pass. The hall was decorated with green and gold chandeliers and at intermission the Gleaner girls were introduced by the theme song sung by Mrs. Donald George of Ashland. Each young woman was seated at small green and gold dressing tables and as her name was read, she came forward to receive a nosegay presented by the presidentMrs. Shepherd. , The young women honored were Misses Marlyn Johnson, Audrey Peterson, Louise Ten ney, Margaret Nielson, Eva Mote, Joan Bachus, Hazel Hart ley and Ida Pearson, . and the Mesdames Elmont George, Rob ert Ellis, Clinton Phelps and Carroll White. They were entertained by an all-girls dance group from the Grants Pass branch. Taking part from there were Misses Jeannie Goff, Norma Brown, Karen and Evelyn Bachus. A reading was given by Mrs. Claton Hassell of Ashland and Mrs. Gordon Allred of Medford. Mrs. Ovid Lisonbee of Ashland was mistress of ceremonies. Remainder of the evening was spent dancing to the music of the Ashland Elks orchestra. Assisting with arrangements were Mrs. Lisonbee, Mrs. Allred, Mrs. Dave Nielson, Floyd Niel son and David Peterson. Executives Attend Garden Conventions Miss Claire Hanley, Medford, and Mrs. E. W. Jermark, Ash land, are attending regional and national garden club conventions this month. Miss Hanley is first vice-president of the Oregon Federation of Garden clubs, and Mrs. Jermark is chairman of the Siskiyou district of the federa tion. The regional meeting was held in Phoenix, Ariz., last week. From there the two women will go on to Biloxi, Miss., where the annual meeting of the Na tional Federation of Garden clubs will be held.
