Fresh Fabrics, New Styles Show Off Spring '52 Prints Striking news in Spring fash ion is the importance of prints in a wider than ever diversifi-1 cation of styling and fabric. Dresses and suits, of every price range, are available in a wide choice of individualized prints that offer distinctive em phasis to the full skirts and soft, slope-shouldered bodices so prediminantly featured for new aeason fashions. Look for "rustling" prints when choosing Spring dresses or suits. Silk or rayon surah, taffeta ta, taffeta shantung and all kinds of taffetized finishes are mag nificently printed. Whitewashed grounds are ex citing news with black and white according to The Silk and. Rayon Print Institute, slated to be the aeason's star. Frosted warp prints are high fashion for cocktail or evening dresses, and sequins often outline prints in all-over or spot sprinklings for glitter. New Styles Have Accent On Texture Two Different Faces Appear The excitingly designed - and textured fabrics that appear in new Spring " coats, " suits and dresses will make them irresisti ble to own, whether the plan is to sew a new outfit or select one already made. Two interesting and distinctly different "faces" appear in these fabrics; the icy-smooth crack ling feel in new silks and taffeta shantungs along with the sponge like springy textured wools, both in the smooth-surfaced group. For contrast, there are ribbed, slubbed and nubby effects. It's a textured look that can be seen in a wide variety of tweed-like, linen-type cottons, sculptured fleeces and wool and rayon boucles. Contrasts In some new fabrics, striking effects are achieved by combin ing the smooth and the textured, as in a light sheer wool with a dark boucle check. - . All new Spring fabrics have a wonderful lightness of weight, no matter how fluffed the texture. This can be seen in a chiffon weight wool coating, woven in a loose weave with a nubby curled wool, a pebble effect without ex cess bulk and even wooly poodle cloth that appears in a much lighter version this season. Oversized patterns, "blown up" versions of basket weaves, home spuns and herringbones, make truly dramatic new-season fash ions. Combinations Unusual textures combined with practicality are the combi nations of man-made Orion with shantung, Dynel with acetate and Viscose and rayon and spun ny lon, shot through with gilt me tallic yarn. Spring coats are predicted to be popular in deep textured, nubbed tweeds or other loopy- faced woolens. Suits, on the more formal side, take to baratheas and worsteds, emphasizing grainy surfaces and a crisp dry face. This characteristic is also present in dress fabrics, as for example the linen-like silks and slubbed worsteds. FASHION ON TOP Look to shoulders and sleeves for outstanding Spring fashion interest. Shoulders remain nat ural, but look wider with the puffiness of low placed sleeves Armholes are deeper with strict modelling below. However, if the -waist is slim but high and the shoulders narrow, a full skirt with a slender hipline, a skirt with a yoke or pleated sections across the hips should be select ed, for most, flattering effects, she suggests. POSE A POSH : . Add a fresh touch of Spring to every ensemble with flowers, pretty as real, posed in the eye catching spots, such as a tiny bouquet at the nipped waist of a full-skirted dress; a flower cluster attached to the ends of a velvet choker; or matching little buds, one on one glove and the other at the suit, coat or dress neckline. Tricky Boleros. Feature Formals - A romantic, truly feminine sil houette will brighten Spring eve ning festivities. Sleeves puff out unexpectedly, torsos are molded, and skirts shower out from fitted hiplines, some resplendent with lacy redingotes. The "covered-up" trend is ap parent, this Spring, with' tricky boleros that melt into the bodice, then whisk off for dancing, and higher necklines designed espe cially to show off sleeves. Cape let sleeves sometimes appear with tiny accordion pleats for a "floating" effect. Others, huge and dramatic, resemble lanterns. Complementing sleeve full ness, are lines that are molded and trimly shaped to figure con tours. Skirt fullness is lowered to flatter the hipline and make the waistline less of a focal point.
