Newspaper Page TextSociety and Clubs International Relations Program To Be Given For Gold Hill Women Gold Hill Miiu Fern Trull, Grants Pass, lirst vice-president of Oregon Federation of Business and Professional Women's clubs, will present the program for a meeting of Gold Hill BPW club, to be held Wednesday, February 27, at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Agnes . McLallen, on North 99 highway near Foots creek. The program will be devoted to international relations, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Belle Smith. Topic for the internation al relations program for the year is: 'To Build a Free World." 'Miss Trull will bring three members of her history class who will out on a flannelgraph dem onstration illustrating the differ ences between democracy, social ism and communism. Each Gold Hill club member is invited to bring one guest Members are requested to tele phone the club secretary, Mrs. J. Let Graffis, to let her know if they are bringing guests. Gold Hill members have been invited to attend a meeting of the Grants Pass BPW club Tues day. February 26, at 8 p.m. at the library auditorium at Fifth and B streets. Two Oriental scholarship students from Ore gon State college, one Japanese and one Burmese, will speak, They will be accompanied by Mrs. Natalie Burns, state chair man of the Oriental Scholarship committee, and possibly Mrs. Lone Jensen, a member of the same committee, and the dean of home economics at OSC. Preceding the Grants Pass meeting, a dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Redwoods hotel, to which Gold Hill mem bers are also invited. First Christian Class Holds Monthly Session Adult Bible class of First Christian church held the month ly business and social meeting in Fellowship hall Thursday. Des sert was served by a committee headed by Mrs. Vera Bailey. . .: Decorations and the program were in the patriotic theme in observance of Lincoln and Wash ington's birthdays. Contests were held, with Mrs. Nora Ireland and Mrs. T. A. Daugherty winning prizes. Mrs. W. C. Kindred conducted a business meeting and Mrs. Bert Gregory conducted devotions. Thirty-seven attended, this number including a number of visitors. - State Nutritionist To Speak for Club . Butte Falls Butte Falls Home Extension unit will spon sor a special lecture and social hour in the high school Thurs day, February 28, at 1 p. m., for all present and future home makers of the community. Miss Van Tine, state nutritionist, will lecture and answer questions about foods and what they can do to increase the joy -of life. This is one of the projects of the club. Mrs. Lawrence Luv re do rted on the Sherwin-Williams show she attended as a representative of the club and said programs were available for clubs desiring information on paints and color combinations. Mrs. Lee Port gave the hor ticulture lesson on preparing the ffarden for sarins nlsntinc. She said that krilium, a new product, is a good soil conditioner for breaking up soil, but is not a fertilizer. Mrs. Port stated that new sawdust was better than old sawdust to use around shrubs and plants since the old sawdust sometimes develops a chemical reaction injurious to plants. She said lime and sulphur sprays for roses and iris may be put on at this time of the year. Hostess chairman was Mrs. Dee Hendrickson and co-host-esses were Mrs. R. T. Nichol and Mrs. R. N. Finney. The table ar rangement was in red, white and blue in observance of Washing ton's birthdav. Mrs. Mark Smith was a vis itor. Custom Guild Lists Ten Best Tailored Women of America . New York The Cus tom Tailors Guild of America issued its. annual list of the "ten best tailored women" Monday and added, parenthetically, that it took more cloth to cover them than it used to. Women have grown "taller and more buxom" in the last five years. Guild President Fred Bal- letta said. He was not available for com ment on just how much bigger they ve grown. The concert is one 1 tha 111141 aeries of Jacksaa County Civic Music aaaoclsttsa 54th Anniversary Of Gold Hili Lodge Observed Last Week Gold Hill The 54th anniver sary of Amethyst Rebekah lode of Cold Hill was celebrated Wednesday nlht by a dinner and special program held at the Odd Fellows hall. A dinner preceded the lode meeting, and was attended by 33 members. Dessert of birthday cakes was provided by the Feb ruary committee. Members whose birthdays were observed were Mrs. Wilbur Martin. Mrs. Frank Carter. Mrs. George Dorman. all Gold Hill, and Mrs. Katherine Kellogg. Medford. The refreshment committee in cluded Mrs. Paul Thompson, chairman; Mrs. William Fergu son, Mrs. Merritt Merriman. Mrs. T. Z. Smith and Mrs. Daniel Stewart. The lodge session was conduct ed by the vice-grand. Mrs. Cecil Johnson, in the absence ot Noble Grant May belle Rains, who is ill. She was presented with a cor sage of heather. Jasmine and vio lets, as a gift from Mrs. Rains. Two charter members of the lodge were especially honored. Mrs. Kellogg and Mrs. Carrie Puhl. Mrs. Walter McLean sang "Memories," accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Paul Holderness. while corsages were pinned on the two honored members by Mrs. Lester Parker, program chairman. The corsages had been made by Mrs. George Dorman. It was announced that the plan had been to present 50-year Jew els to the two charter members, but that the jewels had failed to arrive in time for the meeting. Mrs. Johnson announced the March committee, appointed by Mrs. Rains. The committee is Mrs. Parker, chairman; Mrs. George Dorman. Mrs. J. Le Graffis. Mrs. William Hittle and Mrs. Clyde KelL Plans were made for a special program to be held at the March 19 meeting honoring Sthuyler Colfax, founder of the Rebekah lodge. The members present were divided into three groups and each group planned to give a skit or special number for that meeting. The vice-grand asked for vol unteers to serve on the refresh ment committee for the Odd Fel lows dance to be held Saturday night, March 1. Mrs. Cecil John son volunteered to act as chair man, and Mrs. Clayton Fields and Mrs. Donald Dusenberry also responded. It was announced that Ray Bornaman, lodge member, ha been taken to the Sacred Heart hospital in Medford for treat ment and possible surgery. Missionary Society To Meet in Phoenix Phoenix Women's Missionary society of Phoenix Presbyterian church will meet Wednesday. February 27, in the ladies' parlor at the church. It will be pre ceded by the prayer circle at 2 p. m. Devotions for the missionary meeting will be led by Mrs. Ed Rusho and Mrs. Jewell Parr will be program leader. The serving committee will be Mrs. J. W. Webster and Mrs. E. J. Clark. All women of the church and the community who are inter ested are invited.
