Seattle Bank Robber Caught by Employees Seattle, July 1 (U.R) A cou rageous woman bank clerk, an assistant bank manager and two customers captured a gunman shortly after he robbed the First National bank's international branch of $2,300 Friday after noon. James Albert Sweeney, 27, was booked on an open charge after he confessed the holdup. Mrs. Mae Natori, 36; Assistant Manager Karl Zimmerman and two customers, Frank Murphy and Robert Brown, raced after the bandit after he held up Mrs. Natori. They cornered him in an apartment hallway until police came. Mrs. Natori said Sweeney ap proached her window with a gun and a paper bag. She said he handed her a note which said "Give me the cash you have in bills in this, bag." Then he shov ed the bag through the window. 58 Persons, Plane Still Being Sought , South Haven, Mich., July 1 (U.R) A Northwest airlines DC-4 airliner with 58 persons aboard flew out over Lake Michigan in to a thunderstorm and oblivion a week ago and no light has yet been thrown on the cause of the tragedy. Only parts of two women's bodies have been recovered from the 200-feet water where the air liner is believed to lie. No identi fication has been made of the recovered bodies, which washed ashore. S. air and sea forces to support South Korean forces in their fight against Com munist invaders from North Korea. Wherry Urges Truman To Tell 'Full Facts' Washington, July l CU.P) Senate republican leader Ken neth S. Wherry, Neb., today urged President Truman to tell the "full facts" of the Korean war, and democratic leader Scott W. Lucas, 111., asked the GOP to "stop playing politics." Wherry, apparently with con siderable GOP backing, told re porters Mr. Truman should ad dress a joint session of congress to give the facts on how the war is going and a preview of de mands that eventually may be made on the American people. Such a move is believed under consideration by the administra tion. Lucas' a d m o n i t i on to the republicans st e m m e d from an abortive attempt by Sen. Karl E. Mundt (R., S.D.) to bring up the Mundt-Ferguson communist control bill. July 1 Jim Smith has sold his ranch on Sardine creek to a Mr. Krause of Wis consin and has gone to Spring field, Ore., to stay some time with his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Berg. Miss Lolita Routh and Bill Zimmer of Grants Pass motor cycled to Crater lake June 25. They encountered snow, hall and generally disagreeable weather. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Foley have as their guests their daugh ter, Mrs. Keith Arasmith and baby daughter, Linda, of Port land. Another daughter, Mrs. Henry Zoeller and son, Henry Jr. of Stratford, Conn., are visit ing them and plan to be here most of the summer. Mrs. Imogene Wells of Pen dleton, sister of Curtis Parker, accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Par ker to Gold Hill last week-end. While here she visited her and Mr. Parker's sister, Mrs. E. A. Kellogg in Medford. She and the Parkers returned to their homes in Pendleton and Umatilla June 25. Mr. and Mrs. William Moser and their daughter, Beverly, re turned to their home here this week after driving to Lenore, Okla., to visit his mother who has been ill. They saw part of Old Mexico, Grand Canyon, Boulder Dam, Carlsbad Caverns and Yellowstone Park, being In twelve states during the trip. While they were away Jess San doval took care of the service station. Mr. and Mrs. James Samora were called to Greenville, Cal., last week to attend the funeral of a friend. Mrs. Ferd Jones and Mrs. D. H. Stewart took flowers to Camp White June 27 from the Rebekah lodge. Dick Walker from near Los Angeles arrived recently to spend part of the summer with his father and family, Mr. and Mrs. Delos Walker and sisters, Dixie Lee and Linda Lou. Funeral services were con ducted at the graveside at Rock Point cemetery June 27, for Gerald G. Herman. The service was read by the Rev. Lyman D. Stiles. Mrs. White sang and ac companied herself on her ac cordion. Several relatives of the family came, including Mrs. C. Kent of Jacksonville, Charles Herman and family from Med ford, and other uncles and aunts of the Herman children from places in the valley and the chil dren's mother, Mrs. Ray Bish of Hemet, Cal. Pallbearers were Jim Burke, Cecil Bell, Bill Dun gey, Harold Boen, Harry Smith, Merrill Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Shearer of Forks, Wash., are visiting Mrs. Shearer's brothers, Joe and Earl Pankey until after the holidays. While here their sons from Klamath county will visit with them over the Fourth. Wendall Holder of Shady uove is visiting Mrs. Ruth Mc Coy and family for a few davs, At the recent janitors' conven tion In Klamath Falls, Lester Thompson, head janitor of Gold Hill school, was elected vice president of the State Associa tion of Janitors. Graveside services were held Thursday at Rock Point ceme tery for Mrs. E. E. Butler, moth er of Mrs. Lester Parker. The Rev. George Bolster, pastor of St. Mark s Episcopal church In Medford, read the committal services followed by the Re bekah service read by Noble urana Leola Whitlock, Evelyn Thompson and Ada Andrews. Pall bearers were Paul Thomp son, Melford Hood, Boice Kel logg, John Cogswell, Ben Ful ton and Earl Remsen. Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Reames and two small daugh ters of Tulsa, Okla., are visit ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Reames. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bell are owners of a new Chevrolet. They are planning to move to Medford to a new home. Wendall Jones left Thursday for Cascadia where he will reg ister for summer work In the forestry service with the sup pression crew. Mr. and Mrs. Delos Walker and children and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wills of Klamath Falls spent June 28 at Diamond lake. Leon Wise left Tuesday by train to enter the Veterans' hos pital in Portland. Mrs. R. E. Cook was returned June 25 to her home from the Osteopathic hospital. She Is re ported slowly recovering but Is unable to have visitors yet. Mrs. John Essman and daugh ter, Darlene and son, Jackie, re turned Thursday after a week visiting relatives and friends in Sacramento and San Francisco. They reported very hot weather in California. Mr. and Mrs. Kralicek moved Saturday from the Andrews tenant house to the Chris An derson home on Third street. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Kllburn of Blackwell hill are parents of a son born June 26 at a Med ford hospital. Mrs. Kilburn Is the former Nancy Phelps. Active members from Gold Hill in Central Point Bethel of Job's Daughters recently ap pointed In the order are Miss Marian Smith, marshal; Shirley Lyman, guard; Nadra Moore and Judy Servold will be mem bers of the choir. Mrs. Lawrence Smith had charge of dining room decorations and Marian Smith helped design the favors and assist in the presentation ceremony of flowers to the hon ored guest. Jimmy Nealy of Grants Pass is visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Jones, here while his mother is in Portland. Prospect Prospect, July 1 Mr. and Mrs. Halstead Degman spent the last weekend in Portland. David Steele, Toketee Falls, visited Mr. and Mrs. Willard Huffman here last week. Al Selby returned June 24 aft er a week's stay in Los Angeles attending the Shriner's conven tion. Maxine and Juanita Chandler visited Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wat kins in Rogue River recently. Mrs. Raymond Artmire and children, Frank and Frances re turned home June 24 after vis iting their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Clark in Rio Dell, Cal. Arthur Hakkerup visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hak kerup at Copco during the week end. He is now employed in Med ford. Other visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Hakkerup over the week end were Mr. and Mrs. Henie Hertager and granddaughter, Jo Dell, of Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Hertager are former Prospect residents. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Bowman and daughters Sharon and Rita, returned June 25 after spending the .weekend at Gladstone Park, near Portland attending a church camp-meeting. Bowman's parents, from Rockland, Wash., returned with them for a visit. Mrs. Millard Wilde returned June 21 after a week's stay in Salt Lake City, Utah. She ac companied her son, Ted, who is training to be a Mormon mis sionary. Ted, who is a member of the 1948 graduating class of Prospect high school will leave shortly for Holland where he will be a missionary for three years. Mrs. Brita Nystrom, of Klam ath Falls, is spending the week end visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Artmire and family. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Bigger have moved Into the home which they purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Green of the Red Blanket road. Mrs. Fred Svinth and daugh ter, Betty left June 22 for Balti more, Md., where they visited the mother and relatives of Mrs. Mary Brown. From there they went to New York where Betty will be a counselor in a girl's camp for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. George Brown and daughter, Dolores, left Sun day for Huckleberry mountain. They will spend the summer on the forest service lookout there. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Moore from Texas are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Draper and family. Moore is Mrs. Draper's brother. Alvin Karjola left June 27 for a visit In Minnesota. He plans to be gone about two weeks. Pat Brown, from Shady Cove is visiting Sonna Staggs for a few days. Daily Vavation Bible school ended June 30. Final exercises were held for the parents and friends on Thursday evening, due to the fact so many people were leaving on the weekend. Y., July 1 (U.R) The "neutral" small pow ers of the United Nations secur ity council hope to mediate the crisis in Korea, Informed sources said today, but no move will be made at least until the American-backed southern Koreans have scored a major victory. India Sir Benegal Rau, who finished his term as security council president yesterday, is the prtme mover in the mediation campaign, but even Rau, noted for past efforts to obtain media tion of the conflict between Rus sia and the west, admitted sadly that the present "is no time for mediation." Sfralfon Dies; Funeral Monday Ashland, July 1 Services for Mrs. May Eliza Stratton, 66, Ashland, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Litwillcr funeral home here with interment at Medford IOOF cemetery. She died Friday, A resident of the Valley View district for 36 years, Mrs. Strat ton had made her home here five years. She was born March 17, 1884, at Niagara, N. D. Her husband, W. A. Stratton, died last fall. Survivors are three sons, W. G., Billings, Mont.; F. C, Ash land, and A. G., Ft. Bragg, N. C; two brothers, S. C. Glascow, Salinas, Cal., and Carl Glascow, Sacramento, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Cab Driver Acquitted On Assault Charges Toledo, Ore., July 1 (U.R) A circuit court jury has acquitted Harry Thomas, cab driver, on a charge of assault with intent to kill his former wife, Lola. Thomas was charged as a re sult of a gun battle on the streets of Newport last April 28. Thom as and his former wife and Dale Tull Jr., Salem, were wounded. Tull died of his wounds. Judge Fred McHenry said Thomas will be tried on a mur der charge in connection with Tull's death. Earth af Greatest Distance From Sun By J. This farthest position from Old Sol as we travel along our oval orbit is known as aphelion. On January 3 we were at perihelion, the nearest approach, or around 3,000,000 m' . than at present. Venus, the brightest of all the planets and stars, is rising in the east northeast two hours before the sun, and Is now located al most In the V-formation of the Hyades. The conspicuous orange star nearby is Aldebaran. Merc ury is too close to the sun for observation. Jupiter Due South Brilliant Jupiter is due south about one-half hour before the sun is up. The waning moon wli, be very near to this fine planet on the morning of July 3. For the evening stars and planets, let us observe an hour after sunset. Across the sky from the west to the south south west we find a fine line of bright objects. The brightest of these Is the red planet Mars, although Four Missing or Dead In Florida Plane Fall Tampa, Fla., July 1 (U.R) Four airmen were missing or dead today in the crash of a B-50 bomber that caught fire on take off from MacDill air force base last night and plunged into the ground like a flaming comet. Eight crewmen, including the pilot, bailed out. One other was believed to have parachuted but searchers were unable to find his parachute or body. Three men apparently were trapped In the burning bomber. Wheat, Boxcars Giving Government Headaches Washington, July 1 (U.R) Wheat and boxcars are giving the government one of its season al headaches. Farmers in Kansas are report ed bitter against the commodity credit corporation, the govern ment's crop-buying agency, BUDDY COUGHS UP Memphis, Tenn. (U.R) Buddy, a bull dog owned by Mr. and Mrs. John M. Ward, ate half of a $100 bill. The bank wouldn't give full Value for the half bill, so the Wards had a veterinarian pump the remainder of the cur rency out of Buddy's stomach and got their money. It is fast losing Its brilliance of a few months ago. The color will easily 1 o c at e the "warlike" world. Somewhat to the left of Mars, the white star Spica glitters; and to the right, the yellow planet Saturn. Still farther to the right, white Regulus com pletes the celestial line. Neptune East of Mars The telescopic planet Neptune is now only slightly east of Mars. On the evening of July 15, Nep tune will be only two degrees above the red planet. Telescope operators who know the angular width of field taken In by their low power eyepieces should be able to find this distant planet easily. If a diagram Is made of the stars In the field of view and the same field can be located a few nights later, one object will be somewhat displaced. This is Neptune. Not far southwest from the zenith the orange star Arcturus glitters brightly. The Kite, the stellar configuaration of which 'Vrcturus marks the lower part, xtends to the zenith. Star Moves Eastward Almost down to the horizon about due northwest. Castor twinkles. And at practically the same altitude but near the north northwest, Capclla is shining with yellow light. Four hours later this star will have moved eastward and will appear In the north northeast. Looking toward the east at our observing hour, we find Vega scintillating very high in the sky and almost due east. Somewhat lower and toward the northeast. Deneb is conspicuous.
