Mcdford's runs came in the second inning when Don Wil liams as first batter up singled to right, Bob Haddock filed out but Chuck Freeman came throiiRh with a single to left to put Rogues players on first and third. Marc Guglielmo singled over second base to score Williams and Freeman tallied on a wild pitch. Guglielmo going to third. The local catcher in turn cros ed the plate when Pitcher Bob Smith singled to make Medford's final run of the game. No more hits were made by the Rogues until Johnny Popo vich and Williams both singled but were put out. Marysvllle threatened to at least tie the score in the seventh Inning when the Peaches loaded the bases with two out only to have big Mike Kanshln fan the last batter to end the Inning and threat. IMttihmgh 4 Sunday, July 1, 1951 All Classes At Pool Off No swimming classes will be held this week at the Haw thorne park swimming pool due to the holiday and the fact many of those registered probably are away, Norm Worthley said Sat urday. Classes will resume next week. Children in the non-swimmers and beginners classes held Mon day, Wednesday and Friday mornings and the intermediate and junior and senior life sav ers classes Tuesday and Thurs day mornings are among those postponed. Also postponed for this week are the adult non-swimmers' classes held Tuesday and Thurs day evenings. Boys' Baseball Unscheduled There will be no sessions of the Slimmer Baseball school at the high school field Monday or Tuesday but the sessions will re sume Wednesday morning, Di rector Alex McDonald said Sat urday. The school will also meet Thursday. School hours are from 8 a. m. to noon except Tuesdays and Thursdays when the school also runs from 1 to 4 p. m. as well as in the morning. More than 100 boys are at tending the school this year un der direction of McDonald, Bob Newland and Frank Roclandt. U. S. Golfers Entered In British Tournament Troon, Scotland, July 1 (U.R) Seven U. Bobby Locke of South Africa will try to retain the crown against a field which included seven former titleholders. Cudd, 16, shaded Phil Getch ell, Medford, in the 36-hole jun ior finale, one-up. Miss Snook, representing Columbia-Edgewa-ter Country club, nosed out Pat Neubert, Riverside Golf and Country club, one-up for the girls' crown. Hval, 12. was the youngest winner in the history of the boys' contest, and whipped Don Anawalt. Eugene. 4 and 3. Studs Play Three Games Away This Week Central Point, July 1 The Central Point Studs will take to the road for baseball games Sun day, Monday and Tuesday with all three not counting in the Southern Oregon league stand ings. Sunday is an "off day" in the league so make-up games can be played. The Studs play at Brookings on the Sabbath and at Crescent City on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Nelson Back With Team After Hurt Boy Better Tommy Nelson, playing man ager of the Medford Rogues, was expected lo join the local club at Marysvllle yesterday after taking his son injured when hit by a car this week, to a Los An geles hospital. Pete Jonas, Pacific university baseball coach and pitcher for the Rogues, had been managing the team since Nelson left Wil lows for Santa Barbara where the boy was hurt. El Centro, Cal.. Mathias Top In Decathlon Tulare, Cel., -July 1 (U.R) Olympic Champion Bob Mathias was crowned national AAU de cathlon champion for the third straight year today after running up a total of 8.042 points to smash the world's record for the 10 gruelling events. The 19-year-old Tulare youth, "boy wonder" of the 1948 Olym pics, was hailed by his closest opponent, North Carolina's Bill Albans, as the "greatest per former ever." Albans had 7,361 points. Mathias not only broke the 14-year-old world decathlon mark of 7,900 points set by Glenn Morris in the 1936 Olympics, but also bettered Morris' American decathlon record of 7,380 points, also set in 1936. While failing to crack any In dividual world marks in the 10 tests, he displayed outstanding ability in each of the events to build his record-breaking score. No Pee Wee Ball Monday There will be no scheduled games in the Pee Wee Baseball league Monday but instead an other set of four tilts will be played Wednesday evening, a glance at the official schedule revealed Saturday. Games tomorrow night were eliminated due to the holiday on Tuesday. Wednesday's schedule calls for Ashland and Talent playing at Medford, Central Point at Phoe nix and Eagle Point at Jackson ville. Play ball is at 6:30 p. ni. for the younger boys and about 7:15 p. m. for the older ones. No Junior Legion Ball Drill Monday, Tuesday There will be no Junior Le gion baseball practice Monday and Tuesday this week on ac count of the holiday but drills will be held Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Yesterday's scheduled game between the local club and Myr tle Creek was cancelled when the Creekers decided to play only games in their own area. 'Great Circle' Winner Hollywood Park Race Inglewood, Cal., July 1 (U.R) Great Circle proved himself the best three year-old now com peting on the west coast by scor ing a half-length victory in the $20,000 Cinema handicap at Hol lywood park today. With Your Host campaigning in the midwest, Great Circle took over in the three-year-old ranks by coming from far off the pace to capture the mile race in the good time of 1:36, just three-fifths of a second off the track record. Close Games In FW Loop Friday Night By United Press Far West league baseball fans were treated to something new Friday night all four contests were hard-fought pitchers' bat tles. An example was at Reno where the home team edged the league-leading Redding Browns 3 to 2. It's not unusual for the Browns to score 10 or more runs in a single game but Friday night they could get no place against Reno's rookie hurler, Charles Gloss. The newcomer not only struck out 14 batters, but also gave up only two walks and three hits. Ed Stiles of Redding was tapped for four hits. At Willows, the Eugene Larks came to life in the final two in nings to score all their runs and defeat the Cardinals 5 to 4. Two Eugene pitchers gave up only seven hits, while three Willows hurlers surrendered nine. In two 3 to 1 ball games, Pitts burg downed Klamath Falls and Medford beat Marysville. Gene Valantine fashioned a neat seven-hitter in gaining Pittsburg's victory. No Softball Tuesday At C. P.
