Handsome Foursome Agreement Reached In L.A TTansh Walkout " Los Angeles, June 21. IU.PJ Company and union representa tives reached agreement yester day on a new contract ending a transit strike that halted city wide transportation to more than one million riders. Company spokesmen said that if the 4,000 striking members of the AFL transportation union Medford Tribune approved the tentative settle ment at a meting this afternoon, regular service would be resum ed Wednesday morning. The instrument is known as a aolarometer and was perfected by engineers of Libby-Owens-Ford Glass company. It was used to show how the width of a roof overhang or shade can be de termined to give a building the right shade to make it warmer in December and cooler in July. Sprague, an agricul tural engineer ing consultant from Pennsylvania State college, has spent 5V4 month! looking over buildings where the ma' chine has been used to put the right kind of glass in the right places. You don't use the machine on the farm just the glass usu ally of picture-w i n d o w size instead of the French-window type generally found in old- fashioned cow-barns, hog houses, and homes. In a solar-designed building, the large glass must be self-insulating shaded in the summer and open to the sun in the winter. Instrument Complicated The instrument itself is com plicated, at least for guys like me. It must be set to demonstrate the angle the sun will shine on a building in any community. Then the gimmick sends a mech anical "sun" in an arc from dawn to dusk in the proper path for that latitude .All of that was part of the demonstration. According to Sprague, such glass of the modern double-pane kind used in ranch-type homes already has been put to practical use on farms. The scientist says that's all a matter of humidity.
