SIX MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Tuesday, Junt 20. 1950 Rogues Play Here Tonight, Wednesday, Thursday 7:45 Medford Rogues and the Wil lows Cardinals will open a Far West league series at the fair grounds park with single games tonight, Wednesday and Thurs day at 7:45. The local club had no game scheduled last night. Willows has been showing top form in recent games with wins over the league-loading Redding Browns, although last night the Cardinals dropped an 8 to 7 de cision. New Players Added Medford has added several new players since the Rogues played here last and the club officials believe they have been strengthened materially both in pitcning ana niivuig. Rogues dropped doubleheader Sunday to Pittsburg, the games were close throughout. The local club has been crip pled by injuries to Manager Tommy Nelson and First Base man Jack Cooney, while Pitch ' t.-u t inurl nd Glen Geat- l,.y, considered two of the better ones on tne boum -been bothered by sore arms. By United Press Reno's Silver Sox, a club that made one of the most dismal starts In Far West league history today is rubbing elbows with select company. The Silver Sox moved into first division last night by virtue of a 9 to 5 victory over Eugene. However, their new standings Is shaky. They are only one per centage point ahead of Medford. The Reno attack was paced by Marv Dierck's 415-foot homer in the sixth and Joe Borich's sec ond inning triple with two on base. The game was called in seven innings to allow the Larks to catch bus. In the only other scheduled game, first-place Redding edged the Willows Cardinals 8 to 7 in a game featuring four home runs, Two in the final inning by the Cardinals. The ninth Inning homers were bv Bob Ayes and Gene Painter, while Manager Ray Perry and Ken McGee hit circuit clouts for Redding. Delay in the start of the summer baseball program sponsored by the school de partment each year is caused by the fact that many youths want to attend Bible schools in local churches. These Bible schools close this week. Evidently some local boys got baseball and softball mix ed up and thought that be cause of lack of teams and sponsors there would be no boys' baseball this summer. There will be baseball for he boys, 8 through 14 years old, as in the past, The local softball league was not started again this year because of lack of support. when Medford high won the state football championship in 1845. Warren also has been as sistant freshman football coach at University of Oregon. Other Coaching Jobs Warren went to Salem after leaving Medford high's staff and later was assistant coach at Burns before going to Redmond. At the latter school he has been athletics director and coach of football and track. The new Central Point coach has a bachelor's degree from Southern Oregon college and a master's degree from the Univer sity of Oregon. He assisted with coaching football at the univer sity while taking his master's de gree. He graduated from Ash land high in 1937. Warren will succeed Cecil Warner as football, basketball and track coach at Central Point lush. Warner has acccptfd a p't sition with the Eugi'ne public schools. Niagara Falls Trip In Barrel Scheduled Niagara Falls, Ont., June 20. (U.R) Lloyd Hill said today he will rlde over Niagara Falls July 16 in a steel barrel. He said he plans to evade po lice, whom he expected to try to block the stunt, by having a helicopter drop him and the bar rel upstream from the 200-foot falls. The major uncertainly was whether the crackerjack west ern group, boasting N. C. A. A. champion Southern California and runner-up Stanford, could exceed the meet record of 101 points established in 1938 when the coast slaughtered the mid west at Evanston.
