FOOT MBDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUWE Tuesday, June 20, 1950 cmem Nile Daughters Plan Annual Sowing Proact For Shrine Hospitals Members of Zulelma temple, Daughter! of the Nile, living In Medford will start the annual sewing project Monday, June 28 according to plans made by Mrs. J. C. Deaver, chairman of the sewing committee. First meeting will be held at the Girls Community club, with ' a covered dish luncheon to be served at 12:30 p. m. Those at tending are to take their table service. The sewing meetings are con tinued throughout the summer and fall until about Thanksgiv ing time, when the temple mem bers prepare Thanksgiving gift boxes for children in Shrine . hospitals. Articles to be made by the women include stretcher covers, dresses and suits, bedspreads, smocks, bed jackets and other articles of use to the child pa tients. The spreads and other articles are often embroidered in designs of interest to small children. t ' The temple members have engaged in the sewing project for many years, this being their main assistance to the Shrine, which supports the hospitals for crippled children. Mrs. Deaver urges I large attendance at this first sewing meeting. Plan Party Wenonah club will give a card party at the home of Mrs. Hans Eugene Bennett Art League Head; Arriving Today Eugene Bennett, Medford stu dent attending the Art Institute of Chicago, has been elected pres ident of the Art Students league of Chicago for the coming school year. He was also named dele gate for the Institute chapter, Zeta, of Delta Phi Delta, na tional art fraternity and attended the national convention of the fraternity held in Denver, Colo., beginning June 12. Young Bennett was given fac ulty honorable mention for the third consecutive year. He is ex pected home today, and will con tinue his art classes this summer, started two years ago. While home during the sum mer months Mr. Bennett makes his home with his sister. Miss Lo leta Bennett, 333 South Grape street. 1 Visitors Leave Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Degman of White Salmon, Wash., have been in Medford to visit their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Degman. 18 Elm stret, and their sons. Today the visitors left for Prospect, where they will be guests of another son, Halstead Degman, and his family. Rammln, 831 West Twelfth street Thursday, June 23, at 7:30 p, m. Bethel Installation Set for Wednesday; Dance Will Follow Medford bethel, Job's Daugh ters, will hold the semi-annual installation of officers Wednes day at 7:30 p. m. in the Masonic temple. Miss Fidelia Boone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank D Boone, 1528 West Main street, will be Installed queen. She re places Miss Kaye Crawford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Crawford, 512 South Holly street. The ceremony is open to the public. DeMolay members have been invited to aid in the installation, and a dance for Job's Daughters and DeMolays will follow. Ladies' Aid Society Holds Annual Party 'Phoenix Ladies Aid society of the Phoenix Presbyterian church held the annual birthday tea Wednesday afternoon in the ladies' parlor of the church. Twenty-one women enjoyed the event, for which Mrs. E. J. Clark acted as hostess. A program of community sing ing, readings by Mrs. Ernest Wright and a vocal solo by Mrs. Clark, was given during the aft ernoon. In charge of refreshments and serving were Mrs. L. O. Caster, Mrs. Lillian Coleman and Mrs. W. M. Caldwell. 4 Son Arriving Mr. and Mrs. John Weills, Ross, Cal., are expected in Med ford today to spend a week with Mr, Wellls' parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. While In the bay city Mrs. Jones at tended graduation ceremonies held by the City College of San Francisco June 18, her daughter, Miss Harriett Jones, being a member of the class. The class numbered 943 students, and the ceremonies were held In the War Memorial opera house. Kan., has been spending several weeks visiting Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kie-l of Shady Cove. On her return to Kansas she will be accompanied by Mrs. Mary Chancey of Shadv Cove, mother of Mrs. Fred Kiel and Mrs. Llellewyn. Mrs. Chancey plans to stay in Pittsburg with her two sons, Charley and Albert Chan cey. She will also visit her daughters in Oklahoma City. Wesley Anderson, nephew of Mrs. Ralph Puddycomb of Shady Cove who stayed with them for sometime has returned to his home in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Snendlove and children, Janice and Jerry are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gillespie of Trail. Spendlove is a brother of Mrs. Gillespie. House guests of Mrs. Florence Mason of Shady Cove are Mrs. M. K. Lindner and Mrs. John A. Werner, both of San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Peaslev and children are now at the Flounce Rock ranch having leas ed it from Mrs. Nion Tucker around the first of the year. Operator of the kiln is Arthur Brerton, who handles firing of all ceramic work at the "Y. He and his wife have voluntarily conducted classes at the "Y" for the past eight months. During the winter they operated a small electric kiln built by Brerton, The small size limited the vol ume of class work that could be turned out. Haavv Demand The new unit will make pos sible baking or glazing any work which might be brought to the "Y," according to General Secretary R. L. Jones. With closing of kilns at Central Point and Grants Pass, he said, there has been heavy demand for a place to fire ceramics. Several church Bible school groups are firing at the YMCA. Girls who are "Y" members have a new class opening in ceramics on Mondays and Wed nesdays at 9:30 a. m. Mrs. Earl D. Bruning and Mrs. J. J. Ken nedy will be instructors. Wash., June 20 (U.R) Seattle bakery .operators filed a $600,000 -a -month damage suit against striking bakery workers today as bread supplies in Seattle dwindled to crumbs. The action, filed In superior court, charged that local 9 of the Bakery and Confectionery Workers' union (AFL) breached a "no-strike" contract.
