fIX MEDFOFD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Salem Fire Chief Will Remain on Job Salem, Ore., June 9 U.R) Fire Chief William P. Roble will remain with the Salem fire department. . Roble had filed hij resignation with City Manager J. L. Fran zen, but Mayor R. L. Elfstrom had refused to accept l.t - After a conference with Fran sen and Elfatrom Wednesday, Roble agreed to remain with the department. Roble submitted his resigna tion Monday after conventions of the Oregon State Fire Fighters association and the Oregon Fire Chiefs association. Roble was elected president of the fire chiefs. At their convention, the fire fighters, made up of em ployes of various fire depart ments, adopted a resolution criticizing the city r"?nag?5 form of government. Roble sa d his submitted resignation was in part a protest against this action. In refusing to accept Roble's resignation , Mayor Elfstrom said the chief had been instru mental in building Salem's fire department into one of the uot ftandlng In the state.
