Reno Seeking Financial Aid Reno, Nev., June 8 U.R Di rectors of the Reno Silver Sox of the Far West league have called a mass meeting of fans this eve ning to air the precarious local baseball situation. Directors are expected to urge more support of the financially impaired Silver Sox at the mass meeting. President Wayne Hlnck yey listed as an alternative the abandonment of an organized representative team for Reno. Hinckley said that despite the Renoites' recent winning streak a streak that boosted the Sox from the cellar to sixth place attendance at Moana park here was comparatively lower than in any other Far West league city. Kg- nIutmi Senior Track Squad Dinner Off Schedule The "on again, off again" ban quet for the Medford high track squad seniors has been cancelled definitely for this year bv the Athletics Booster club of South ern Oregon which had been plan ning for the event. President Les Stamper of the club said that a dance for seniors Friday night would prevent most of if not all the boys from going so the dinner slated for the Med ford hotel Friday night was can celled. Instead each senior class mem ber on the thlnclad squad whether ' a first stringer or "scrub" will receive a gift by mail instead of at the banquet. The gift is being provided by the Boosters in recognition of the fine record made by the boys this past season. Due to OSAA rules the gift can not be presented until after the boys have graduated, Stamp er explained. Tennis Club Asks Courts Medford Tennis club has asked the city of Medford to construct four tennis courts at Hawthorne park to supplement courts else where in town. The request was made to May or Diamond Flynn in a letter from T. R. Lytle of the club. A petition stgned by 88 persons ac companied the letter. Both were brought to the attention of city councilmen at its meeting this week. Councilman Harold Frye, chairman of the park committee, reported that no funds are avail able for court construction al though fencing, gates and posts are on hand for two courts. Ex-Miss America Entry Jailed on Narcotics Charges Detroit. Mich., June 8 (U.P.) Peggy Ellsworth, Michigan's 1317 Miss America entry jailed on narcotics violation charges, said tod;iy that she became a dope addict because "everyone told me I nact tailed in me. I Narcotics agents said the 24- year-old, once-beautiful brun ette admitted that she had been a heroin addict for about two i months, but was cured by a drug prescribed by a doctor. Needles Found I Authorities said they found I hypodermic needles and narcot ics scattered about Miss fciis worths apartment when they ar rested her yesterday. Miss Ellsworth said she be came a photographic and fash ion model in New York after glueing 16th in the national eauty contest. "The pay was good, but Jobs didn't come up too often," she said. "Finally I got pneumonia and suffered a nervous break down." The girl said she returned to Detroit after recovering, "but nobody would give me a Job." "Everyone told me I had fail ede in life," she said. "They said I didn't have any talent." Miss Ellsworth said that "Just wnen 1 was tooling my lowest she met a drummer "who had worked with some of the top panels in tne country." sne saia she fell in love with him before learning he was a drug addict. "I tried a marijuana cigarette at a party one night, she said. 1 became an addict at that moment." Miss Ellsworth refused to Identify the musician. Addicts Travel Far To Purchase Drugs Toronto, Ont.. June 8 (U.P.l Narcotics addiction is "rampant among Vancouver, B. C. girls and many of them are coming to Toronto to buy morphine .at low er prices, a narcotics squad agent said. Constable Alvin Sproule made the statement yesterday in tes timony at tne trial oi tieanor Canal, alias Carrol, 22, who ar rived here from Vancouver four weeks ago. Miss Canal was convicted of illegal possession of narcotics and sentenced to six months in jail and fined S200. Mary Ann Johnson, 27, also of Vancouver, was sentenced to nine months on a similar charge. Sproute testified that Miss Canal had told him most of Van couver's addicts were girls from 16 to 21 years old, and that she travelled here because she want ed to buy her supplies at lower prices than were charged in Vancouver. First Flamingoes to ' Nest in Captivity San Antonio, Tex., June 8 ' (U.P.) A pair of flamingoes nest ed in captivity today for tho first time. Fred Star, director of the Brackenridge zoo, said the fc-' male laid its egg Monday. "As far as we know, and we're still checking records, this is the first time in history that fla mingoes have nested in captiv ity in the United States and probably in Europe," Stark said.
