a mass meeting of fans this eve

Squad Dinner
Off Schedule
The "on again, off again" ban
quet for the Medford high track
squad seniors has been cancelled
definitely for this year bv the
Athletics Booster club of South
ern Oregon which had been plan
ning for the event.
President Les Stamper of the
club said that a dance for seniors
Friday night would prevent most
of if not all the boys from going
so the dinner slated for the Med
ford hotel Friday night was can
celled. Instead each senior class mem
ber on the thlnclad squad
whether ' a first stringer or
"scrub" will receive a gift by
mail instead of at the banquet.
The gift is being provided by the
Boosters in recognition of the
fine record made by the boys this
past season.
Due to OSAA rules the gift
can not be presented until after
the boys have graduated, Stamp
er explained.
Tennis Club
Asks Courts
Medford Tennis club has asked
the city of Medford to construct
four tennis courts at Hawthorne
park to supplement courts else
where in town.
The request was made to May
or Diamond Flynn in a letter
from T. R. Lytle of the club. A
petition stgned by 88 persons ac
companied the letter. Both were
brought to the attention of city
councilmen at its meeting this
week.
Councilman Harold Frye,
chairman of the park committee,
reported that no funds are avail
able for court construction al
though fencing, gates and posts
are on hand for two courts. He
evidenced a willineness to turn
the materials over to the club if
it would do the work.

Narcotics Charges

Peggy Ellsworth, Michigan's
1317 Miss America entry jailed
on narcotics violation charges,
said tod;iy that she became a
dope addict because "everyone
told me I nact tailed in me.
I Narcotics agents said the 24-
year-old, once-beautiful brun
ette admitted that she had been
a heroin addict for about two
i months, but was cured by a drug
prescribed by a doctor.

and many of them are coming to
Toronto to buy morphine .at low
er prices, a narcotics squad agent

rived here from Vancouver four
weeks ago.
Miss Canal was convicted of
illegal possession of narcotics
and sentenced to six months in
jail and fined S200. Mary Ann
Johnson, 27, also of Vancouver,
was sentenced to nine months on
a similar charge.
Sproute testified that Miss
Canal had told him most of Van
couver's addicts were girls from
16 to 21 years old, and that she
travelled here because she want
ed to buy her supplies at lower
prices than were charged in
Vancouver.
