Goodrich people for the engi neering division of the air ma terial command, was a master piece. Total weight of the thing was 740 pounds and when it was up it was as big as a four room house. The canvas came in eight sections, each 10 feet wide. Handy for War Ed Kalzenmeyer, the project engineer for Goodrich, says that the tent would be handy in time of war as a briefing tent for plane crews before a takeoff against the enemy. Actually, the tent was design ed by the air force primarily for use as a portable photographic processing laboratory. The "building" is made entirely of cloth-rubber fabric. Structural members which hold the weight and shape of the tent, which will stand up under a 40 mile wind, are irregularly shaped tubes which, when filled with air, become rigid and capa ble of supporting the rubber fabric cover that zips together. The tent was shown to the public on armed forces day for the first time. Visitors saw aerial photo graphs of the Washington area, taken only a short time before, processed by a high-speed print ing machine the only one of its kind around so far. Many Possibilities Katzenmcyer said the blow-up tent has all sorts of possibilities, "Even the Ringling people might find it a time-savor," he said. "And the pup tent idea isn't beyond possibility, either. All in all, it was quite a show. Hnlling entertained a quarter of a million on Saturday and as manv or more on Sunday. R. was sun bathing in her yard In Eugene's Glcnwnod district Saturday. Suddenly a runaway car driven by a young boy who had lost control of the vehicle ca reened across the lawn and ran over Barbara Jean and her sister, Jeannelte Yvonne, 11. Harhara Jean died in Sacred Heart hospital yesterday. Yvonne was in fair condition. The 15-year-old driver of the car was held on a charge of reck less driving. I. On County Visit Medford school officials have I announced the time table for the 1 showing of the Oregon Liberty j Bell at Medford schols. The bell 1 will appear in Jackson county on 1 hursday, May 25, in connec tion with the current Independ ence savings bond drive of the United Stales treasury. The schedule is 10:55 to 11:10 a.m.. Lincoln school: 11:15 to 11:30 a.m., Roosevelt school; 11:40 a.m. to noon, Washington school; 12:05 to 12:25 p.m., Jack son school; 12:30 to 1 p.m., jun ior high and 1:07 to 1:25 p.m., senior high. From 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. the bell will be on display on the Southern Pacific com pany area at Main and Front streets, according to Morris Leonard Sr., county bond orive chairman. Other Stops Listed Jackson county itinerary of the bell includes stops at other schools. Rogue River at 8:40 a.m., Gold Hill at 9:25 a.m., Central Point at 10:10 a.m.. Phoenix 1:40 p.m.. Talent 2:15 p. m., Ashland 2:50 to 4 p.m. The bell will be shown on Ashland streets from 4 to 5 p.m. Col. H. J. Meirlng will have charge of the Boy scout guard of honor accompanying the bell through the county. Selected high school seniors will go along also. America's Liberty Bell is tak ing on new emphasis as a sym bol of freedom in connection with the bond drive. The savings bond division of the treasury de partment is sending 52 nearly exact replicas of the bell on tours of the 48 states, District of Columbia. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The alloy of copper for the bells was furnished by six of America's largest copper com names. A foundry at Annecy. France, cast the bells at a cost of SI 20.000. The bells are the exact size of the original and have approximately the same tone.
