Oregon Lions Invited To Attend Round-Up Medford Lions are expecting as many as 900 delegates and wives here June 11, 12 and 13 for annual convention of Oregon Lions. Dr. Lee Melllsh, conven tion chairman, said it will be the largest convention in the history of Oregon Lions. Dr. Melllsh has invited Oregon Lions to arrive in Medford early Sunday, June 11, so that they may include the Jackson Coun ty Sheriff's posse's annual round up in their program of conven tion fun. Sunday evening, after the round-up, Lions will hold a west ern chuck wagon barbecue that will be followed by the gover nor's banquet and ball. S. air force announced today that IS of its men were killed when a B-29 superfortress erashed while trying to make an emergency landing at, Lagens air base in the Azores. The superfort was one of a flight of the 301st bomb group flying from Barksdale Field, La., to England. The bombers were replacing the second bomb group, which had completed a 90-day training period. (The total of 15 dead conflict ed with an announcement from the bomber's home base, where a public relations officer said 16 persons 11 crewmen and five passengers were killed.) The air force said the wreck ed bomber was diverted from the main group on the flight from Bermuda to Scunthorpe, England, after its left outside engine failed. Nation's Polio Cases Said To Be Increasing Washington, May 19 0J.R) The number of polio cases throughout the nation is Increas ing. The public health service re ported today that there were 102 polio cases reported last week as compared to 72 in the preceding week. California reported 28 cases, an increase of 14 over the pre ceding week. Texas reported 38, an increase of 10. The number of flu cases con tinued to wane, however. There were 2.492 cases reported last week, compared with 3,399 in the preceding week. Special Oil, Gas Tax Cut Rejected Washington, May 19 OI.R) The house ways and means com mittee today rejected a proposal to reduce the special tax allow ance now given the oil and gas and non-metallic minerals indus tries. President Truman had asked congress to reduce the "deple tion allowances" for oil and gas from the present 27 V4 per cent a year to 15 per cent, and for non metallic minerals from 15 to five per cent.
