A note to George Milligan:
Congrats on the new flyer in the
family, born on Wednesday. Our
apologies for not getting this in
the column sooner, but when
we write this up two days in
advance, I think you can see how
that would happen. While you
recruit the new member into
Mercy Flights, Inc., well take
a cigar!

Special Oil, Gas
Tax Cut Rejected
Washington, May 19 OI.R)
The house ways and means com
mittee today rejected a proposal
to reduce the special tax allow
ance now given the oil and gas
and non-metallic minerals indus
tries. President Truman had asked
congress to reduce the "deple
tion allowances" for oil and gas
from the present 27 V4 per cent a
year to 15 per cent, and for non
metallic minerals from 15 to
five per cent.
Administration spokesmen esti
mated that such a change in the
tax rates would yield the gov
ernment about $200 million in
additional revenue.
