Lutheran Church Scene Of Wedding Of Medford Couple St. Peter's Lutheran church was the : ene May 6 of the wed ding of Miss Marlene Joyce Morse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Merville E. Morse, 24 Washing ton street, to Joseph Herman Morris, son of Mrs. Florence Sudano of Granville, 111. The Rev. Harry H. Young officiated at the evening service and Mr. Morse gave his daughter in mar riage. About 200 guests were present. Mrs. Katherine Danner was soloist, with Mrs. Agnes Smith as accompanist. The bride's wedding gown was of traditional white slipper satin with nylon net yoke and her bou quet was of bouvardia and val ley lilies centered with an orchid. Miss Sally Jane Tarns, maid-of-honor, wore yellow dotted iwlss and carried a nosegay of orchid carnations and yellow roses. Kenneth E. Tolle was best man for the bridegroom and ushers were Richard Wilson and Francis Fann. . . The scene was lighted by many randies, and candles and ivy stood In the cnurcn winnows. A reception followed In the church parlor. The bride's table was decorated in yellow and white with a centerpiece or pas tel colored daisies and celling decorations were of yellow and white, with wedding bells sus pended over the bride's table. Vases of lilacs were used about the room. Mrs. Milton Singler. sister of the bride, took charge of the guest book. Mr. and Mrs. Morris are liv ing at 013 North Central avenue following a wedding trin to the coast. The bride was graduated from Medford high school with the class of 1049 and her husband Is a velernn of three years of service in the marine corps. Here for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Jecelie. brother-in-law and sister of the bridreroom from Rend, and Mr. and Mrs. Phil Slrahan of Rogue River. Mrs. Ruth Holmes And Joseph Dionne Married Recently The wedding of Mrs. Ruth Holmes to Joseph Dionne was announced last week. Both are of Medford. The rites were read May 6 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Benjamin, niece and nephew of the bride, by the Hev. Holly Hoy Jarvis. pastor of the First Chris tian church. Mr. Benjamin sang preceding the rites. Only relatives were present for the ceremony, including Mrs. Richard Cannon, Spoknnc, sister of the bride, and the bride's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richurd David Holmes, who attended the University of Ne vada at Reno. The newlywed couple will live at 520 North Bartlctt street. Flower Pictures To Feature Show Of Garden Club A large collection of pressed flower pictures will make up one of the special exhibit at the Medford Garden Club's flower show to be held In the social hnll of the YMCA Tuesday, May loin, ihese pressed flower pic turcs made by members of vari ous garden clubs in Columbia district, had their initial showing in the 1'orlland Journal s Mary Cullen's Cottage. They proved so popular that they have since been shown at the Corvallis show and the Cedar Mill Garden club show. The display is sponsored by the Oregon Federation of Gar den clubs and the Medford club feels that it is able to secure them for the local show. Charles Meyers of El Paso, Tex., will leave during the week for El Paso where her wedding to Sergeant Meyers will take place in the near future. Odd Fellows Plan Square Dance Party Odd Fellow lodge members have made plans for a square dance party May 23. Colley, also of Medford, became the bride of Ralph E. Clemens at a ceremony held Friday, May S, in the First Methodist church. The Rev. Meredith A. Groves of ficiated. The bride, given in marriage by her brother, J. D. Colley. wore a grey tailored suit with corsage of gardenias and sweetpeas. She was attended by Miss Margery Dotson, who wore a gray suit with carnation corsage. Paul R. Lynch served as best man for the bridegroom. Mrs. Lyle Schoppcrt sang for the wedding, accompanied by Mrs. Lester Winslow, who also played the wedding march. The church decorations, ar ranged by Mrs. Anna J. Gorby, were of lilacs and bridal wreath. A reception, held at the home of the bridegroom's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clemans, 8 North Orange street, followed the reception. The newlvweds will live at 310 Laurel street. Duplicate Club Plans Annual Tournament; Give Weekly Winners Medford Duplicate Bridge club has planned the annual open pa.r luumamem lor sun- oay. May 21, at the hotel. It will be held in two session, with one beginning at 1 p. m. and the second at 7:30 p. m. Mrs. Van Gilbert and Mrs. W. W. Stevenson took top place at the meeting of the club Tues day night;' scoring 50 points. Coming in second were Mrs. Jean Hall and Mrs. Frank Baker, with 48 '.! points. Two couples, William Isaacs and Roy Pruitt, T. J. Fuson and Mrs. Al Gilhouscn. tied for third and fourth spots both couples scor ing 42'-j points. Ashland Guests To Attend Dinner Of Medford BPWC Members of the Medford Busi ness and Professional Women's club have planned a dinner meeting for Thursday, May 18. at 7 p. m. in the Pioneer room of the Jackson hotel. Gnosis will be Ashland women interested in forming a BPW club ill that city and a program is being planned. Iwo committees are planning the dinner. Thev are the UNESCO committee, of which Mrs. Edith Baker and Frances Grant are co-chairmen, and the international relations commit tee, headed by Mabel Hundlev and Mildred Black. Play Cast And Staff Entertained Friday; Group Seeks "Home" The cast nd staff of "The Torch-bearers," Footlighters' civ ic theater group play, and other members of the organization and friends, were entertained Friday night at an informal party fol lowing the second presentation of the play at Medford senior high school auditorium. The gathering was in the country home of Mrs. Nancy Clark Jones on 401 Ranch road. About 50 attended the affair. A buffet supper was served and conversation revolved around the future of the newly reorganized group. Members are enthusiastic about "finding a home of their own," and at present several lo cations are under consideration. Included is a large barn which would lend itself to remodeling for a "little theater." It is the hope of the group to produce a summer-theater presentation. A board meeting of the organi zation will be held Thursday. Next regular meeting will be June 5 in the upstairs hall at 123" a West Main street. An in vitation is extended to anyone in terested in any phase of "little theater." Regular meetings will be held the first Monday of each month at the West Main street address. Musical Society Selects Winner; Officers Elected . Highlights of the meeting of Medford Musical society, held Monday evening at the home of Mrs. M. N. Hogan, Siskiyou heights, were selection of the Winner of the 1950 scholarship award and election of officers. Wittier of the award will be an nounced at high school com mencement time. Mrs. J. C. Collins was re-elected president of the organization. with Mrs. Margaret Fabrick as ; nresident Mr, Farl T. Lw. son. secretary, and Miss Made line Harold, treasurer. The mem bers gave a rising vote of ap preciation to the officers who served during the past year, and a special vote of thanks was giv en for "the excellent work" of Miss Mabel Nansen, who has served as program director the past-year. Mrs. R. A. Schuchard served as program chairman for the eve ning, and spoke on "Dance Forms." She was assisted by Mrs. C. R. Adamson, who illustrated classic dance forms as used by the great piano composers, and by Mrs. Bernice Bolger, violin ist, who played various types of reels and jigs from the folk dance group. Mr. Schuchard. trombonist, also played examples of modern American develop ment in the popular dance field, illustrating various types of rag time. Jazz, blues and others. Mrs. Schuchard acted as accompanist for these numbers and those play ed by Mrs. Bolger. Modern dance forms were also presented in recordings of South American rhythms. Hostesses for the refreshment hour were Mrs. Michael Rossi, Mrs. E. Ronald Rice. Mrs. A. S. Roach and Mrs. Earl Lawson. Both are stu dents at the University of Ore gon. (Brainerd photo). Miss Ann Butler, University Student, Engaged to Wed Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Butler, 28 North Barneburg road, announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Ann, to Charles Wirkkula, son of Mrs. Herman Wirkkula of Astoria, Ore., and the late Mr. Wirkkula. Miss Butler is a sophomore student at the University of Ore gon, majoring in education. She is a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and at present is vice president of the chapter. She is also a member of Amphibians. Her fiance, a navy veteran, at tended Vanport college before transferring to the university and will graduate this spring from the school of accounting. No date has been set for the wedding. Bridal Shower Given For Miss Shepherd; June Wedding Planned With many May and June weddings slated, a number of parties are being planned for the brides-to-be.
