Flipper's Baby Born Dead; Seaside Mourns Seaside, Or., May 13 (U.Pj Flipptr'i baby wai born dead and thera wai mourn ing among the visitor! to in Seaside aquarium. Flipper was believed lo b. th first teal ever bred in captivity and for 11 months Seaside residents and resort commuters have been wait ing for the birth. Dr. R. E. Koenig, veterin area, said Flipper went over time in delivering her off spring. He estimated it had been dead 24 hours before it was born at 3 p.m. Friday. Observers report that after it was over, Nappy, the baby's father, nosed up to Flipper "to assure her it was all right. Employment Men Set Conclave Next Week Salem, Ore., May 13 1U.R) A three day meeting of state un employment compensation com mission personnel will open here Monday. About 100 local office managers, employment de puties, farm placement represen tatives and central office staff men of the commission are ex pected to attend. Silas Gaiser, commission ad ministrator, will outline aims of the conference. Earl Lovell, state employment director, will preside. Farm placement, veterans and local office reporting will be dis cussed Monday afternoon. Job development in the employment service program will be subjects of the Tuesday sessions. Claims procedures will be studied Wednesday. Portland Police Hold Man for Investigation Portland, Ore., May 13 (U.PJ City police Said today they were holding Bonificio Q. Quitevis, 45, on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon and for in vestigation in connection with the death of Orald Bert Rhodes. Officers said the men were fighting on a downtown Port land, sidewalk when Rhodes, over 60, backed toward the street to get away from Quite vus. As the older man backed into the street, he tripped and fell into the path of an oncom ing truck, driven by James R. Ring of Portland. Ring ran over Rhodes' head before he could stop the truck. Rhodes was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Vincents' hospital. Armour Ex-Official Pleads Innocent to Alteration Charge Portland, Ore., May 13 (U.R) Ronald J. Smith, former assis tant manager of the Portland plant of Armour Co., pleaded innocent Friday when he was arraigned in circuit court on a charge of altering company rec ords to hide an alleged short age of $127,000 worth of pro duce. A total of five men have been indicted in the case. Charles S. Moore, part owner of a grdcery store, pleaded in nocent to a charge of receiving stolen property. Johnnie O. Watson, formerly employed at the Armour load ing dock, and Glen Porter, truck driver, will plead later. Harold H. Prenger. Orchards, Wash., indicted with Watson for larceny, failed to appear in court for arraignment. Grants Pass, May 13 Approx imately 1.500 Jackson and Jose phine county Masons are expect ed here May 20 for the pre sentation of "A Dramatic Picture of Freemasonry" by Research lodge of Portland. Headed by Shalor C. Eldridge, grand master of Oregon Masons, the Research lodge will give what is called an "amplified sym bolic presentation of the three craft degrees" in the Heater Newman memorial gymnasium. To Display Relics The Eastern Star social club will serve a nominally priced buffet banquet in the Lincoln school auditorium before the pre sentation ceremonies. Curry, Wheeler Record No Traffic Fatalities Salem, Ore., May 13 IU.R) Two Oregon counties, Curry and Wheeler, went through 1949 without a single traffic fatality, the state traffic safety division reported today. Denning, 19, suffocated when he fell into a storage bin loaded with finely-crushed rock at the Blue Diamond corporation gypsum mill here last night. i Sunday, May 14. 1950 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE THIRTEEN Longview Man Dies in Plunge From Hotel Portland, Ore., May 13 (U.P.) Frank Lundmark, about 60, of Longview, Wash., was killed early today when he plunged from a third floor window at the Belmont hotel. City police were Investigat ing the death to determine whether he Jumped, was pushed or fell. Lundmark was wearing only his underwear when he plunged to the sidewalk. His body was taken to the Multnomah coun ty morgue where a preliminary examination revealed that death was due to a skull fracture. The coroner's office said an autopsy would be performed to day and an inquest scheduled. Klamathite Succumbs To Heart Attack Klamath Falls, Ore., May 13 U.R Sammuel Goddard, 53, died of a heart attack Friday during a fight with 28-year-old John Holloway. Deputy Sheriff Red Britton said Goddard hit Holloway over the head with a shovel, wound up for a second blow, collapsed and died.
