His office already has process ed 208,000 medals and awards to World War II fighters. An automatic recheck is beina made of all cases where recommenda tions for honors were turned i down. Some ex-soldiers have written in on their own hook, suggest ing recognition for their exploits but Kersting warns such decoration-seekers their stories must hold water. His staff searches navy archives to check all claims and, he added, the board that passes on awards is "plenty tough."
