TWO MEDFOHD (OREGON) Nisei Girl Gives Up In Japan for Return Tolcvo. May 3 (U.R) An American girl of Japanese par entage has forgone a stage ca reer here which is the envy of thousands of Nipponese bobby soxers to return 10 tne unncu States. Salt Lake City-born Peggy No riko Matsuda, the only nisei girl ever to become a member of the famed Takarazuka girls' opera show, said she is planning a stage career in America. She arrived In Japan eight years ago with her mother and sister, Rose, after her father, Tanesuke Matsuda, a merchant, died in Salt Lake City. The choir has been organized ince 1945, and has participated In an annual performance of Handel's "Messiah,'' sung with the Tacoma symphony, produced yearly opera or operetta ano annually toured the northwest. It trains its students to sing, dance and act and operates an operetta. Its repertoire In cludes Japanese and Shakespear ean dramas and a large number of others featuring "make be lieve" kingdoms almost all based on romance between a beautiful princess and a prince charming. Girls Portray Malts The male parts are portrayed by girls. The foreigner finds It difficult to understand, but Jap anese girl 'teen-agers are almost fanatic in their admiration of members of the Takarazuka show. Entrance requirements to this school are strict but Miss Mat suda made the grade and she made her debut in April, 1947, under the stage name of Midori Wakasa. She attracted considerable at tention last year when in flaw less English she described the costumes in a fashion design show on a Tokyo stage. Ameri can occupation troops wondered who the girl in the Takarazuka uniform was who spoke their language so well. Teaches English In between plays, she has been teaching English to other members of the cast. Miss Matsuda now is continu ing her study of vocal music in preparation for what she hopes will be a stage career in Amer ica.
