"Tubby" Jjean, president Of Rogue Valley Baseball, Inc., leader in the Booster club, sponsors of the Rogues, and a Program Scheduled Nearly 30 members of the Boosters plus their wives have sent in reservations and another 20 or so had indicated they would attend before reservation cards were sent out. The baseball squad and other guests will bring bring the total over 100. A program consisting of brief talks by several of the guests and musical selections has been planned. Marysville lo Play The Rogues will play Marys ville at the fairgrounds Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights starting at 7:48. Friday Willows will be here for a three-day stand. Tuesday afternoon a parade led by the junior high band and marine color guard will wind its way through downtown streets to Inaugurate the opening night. This parade will start at 4:30 from near the courthouse. Wrestlers Seek Wallick Battle Mack Lllard was swamped with requests yesterday from several wrestlers who wanted a match with Leo Wallick, the Chicago pile-driving expert, Pete Belcaslro, the Weed as sassin who gave Wallick a solid thumping in a tag team match last week, has asked Lillard for a regulation match with the big tough guy and Buck Davidson, the favorite with local fans also wants a shot at Wallick. Davidson was Walllck's part ner In the tag match and in a post-match argument Dnvidson was knocked cold by Walllck's pile driver. Lillard said yesterday he had not yet contacted Wallick but bollved that he would not agree to meet UclcHstro. "He'll have to agree to some outstanding op- fioncnt by Sunday night or be eft off the card,'' the promoter said. Eagles Toppled In Baseball 9-5 Camp White. Apr. 29 Illinois Vallev high school baseball team took the measure of Eagle Point high In a JDJ and Southern Ore gon conference game here Fri day afternoon 9 to 5 with six of the winner's runs coming in the first inning. Tnt Simmons tripled for the Eagles and thereby made one of the three hits the losers gather ed. Illinois Valley slapped out six hits and was also aided by six E.P. errors. Millard and Doherty pitched for the Eagles' nine. The track has granite surface and is rated ideal for broadcasting style of the average motorcycle racer. Entries are coming in from all parts of the country so there is a possibility that an elimination of riders may take place. The time trials will place the riders into their respective events and if too many riders are signed up, time trials will eliminate the slowest riders. Local competition is running high with eight entries from Medford and Ashland. Frank Carter, a local boy, who has been out of the racing circuit for awhile, will be back in form and should be a leading contender in the Novice class. Valley Men Entered Medford will also have Don Sample, Dan Donahoe and Dale Newton defending their "stakes" against Gene Litwiller. Don Wolff and Bill Roberts of Ash land, and this promises to be a show all of its own. Harold Breazeale. an ex racer, has been engaged for the starter, and Everett Lonanecker of Wynn Oil company has been secured as announcer. Milt Martin Now On Rogues Staff Milt Martin, former Medford Dodgers catcher and last season a receiver for Pittsburg, Cal., has been purchased from Santa Barbara. Cal.. of the California class D league and will report to the Medford Rogues of the Far West league on or before Mav 2. The local baseball club had tried to get Martin on option from Santa Barbara but when that move failed, the Rogues club purchased the populnr re ceiver outright, Business Muna ger Mel Carpenter said. Rogue River High Tops Loggers '9' Butte Fall?, Apr. 29 An out- hit Rogue River high nine took advantage of Logger errors Fri day to nick Butte Falls 15 to on the Chieftains' diamond. Butte Falls outhingled Rogue River 13 to eight but six mis plays, most of them In the out field, turned the tide. Darwin Monre homered with two on hnse for the Loggers and his trammnte. Tommy Harper, tri pled. It was the Loggers' fourth loss against one win in the loop. Butte Falls will play a prac tice game at Prospect on lues- day. Main Phone 2-2939 SUPPORT THE MEDFORD ROGUES Attend the Opening Game Tuesday, May 2 Rogues Stop Pittsburg; Reno Today Pittsburg, Cal., Apr. 29 (Special to Mail Tribune) The Medford Rogues captured their first victory of the 1950 Far West league season Friday night by walloping Pittsburg 18 to 9 be hind the effective pitching of Floyd Shotwell to end a scries. The Rogues were scheduled to play at Reno, Nev., Saturday night in a single game and a doublcheadcr there Sunday. Nelson Hits Homer Manager Tommy Nelson slammed out a grand slam home run and also proved a good clutch hitter as highlights of the game. It was Medford's first victory over the Diamonds In Pittsburg since early last season. Shotwell kept 10 hits well scattered, struck out seven and walked six. In addition to the homer Nelson also got two singles for six runs batted in. Medford picked up five runs in the first inning on three walks, two errors and singles by Nelson and Catcher Marc Gugli elmo. Bob Brien was a top Rogues with a triple and two, singles In five trops to the plate. Enos Hits Homer Willie Enos homered for Pitts burg in the seventh inning with no one on. Outfielders Claude Buckley and Don Williams each got two hits in six trips, and Third Base man Al Bolen had a perfect night with 2 for 2 for the Rogues club. Apr. 29 A baseball doublcheadcr will be played at the Central Point town field west of the railroad tracks Sunday when the Central Point Millers meet Eagle Point town 'cam starting at 12:30 p.m. and then face Butte Falls starting about 2:30 p.m. All three are members of the semi-pro Valley Baseball league which is scheduled to start its 1950 season cither May 7 or May 14. The league scheduled has not been announced. Tomorrow's games at Central Point will not count in the league standings but will be only practice games. Sutherlin Tops Pointers 7 to 4 Central Point. Apr. 29 Con tral Point high baseball team to day looked forward to Its South ern Oregon conference game with Medford on' the Pointers' field Tuesday afternoon after absorbing a 7 to 4 JDJ league cicieat at the hands of Sutherlin here Friday. The Studs open their league season Sunday, May 14, by play ing the Rogue River town team on the C.P. field. Dennis Conner on the mound In the curtain-raiser gave up five hits and Medford made two errors, while Myrtle Creek was credited with three misplays. Medford batted out four safeties. Conner struck out 13 opponents during the seven inning affair. Terry Maddox, despite a bum leg, pitched Medford to a second game win by allowing but two hits while his teammates com mitted four errors. Myrtle Creek in this game made five misplays and the Tornado got seven hits. Dean Pratt hit a triple, Ned Landers a double and Gary Boshears a triple during the afternoon. A homerun with the bases full In the seventh and final Inning gave Grants Pass high a 9 to 8 victory over the Medford high baseball team here Friday after noon in a southern Oregon con ference game. It was Medford's second conference defeat against as many victories. Jack Turk on the mound for the Tornado in that 7th inning walked two. hit one batter, threw two wild pitches and there was an error to set the stage for a Caveman rally. One run came in on a walk and then Parsons unloaded a roundtripper to right centerfield. 1760 North Riverside Dennis Conner was victim of the homerun by Parsons, one of three hits he made in the game, having relieved the tiring Turk when the lefthander became wild. Medford rallied in the same seventh stanza to tally two runs on walk to Jim Grimm. Don Denman hit by pitched ball, Con ner's single and a fielder's choice on Terry Maddox's grounder. Ray Smith and Denman with one hit in three trips, Grimm who goe credit for one safety in two appearances and Connor's one hit in one trip were big sticks for Medford. Only thd bait fishermen were given a chance for much luck by state game wardens on the basis of existing conditions. Kramer Adams of the state di vision of fish and game comment ed that "any man who catches trout on a fly today not only will have to be a good fisherman but he'll have to be lucky."
