":9 Sawmills Asked To Give Data for Lumber Census Because operators have failed to fill in the forms sent out, several sawmills in the Medford area may not be listed in the 1949 lumber census of the doug- las fir region now being tabu lated, according to H. V. Simpson, executive vice President of the West Coast umbermen's association. Simpson pointed out need for accurate industry production figures when the western lumber industry appears before congres sional committees. Every mill, he said, must also be listed to get authentic figures for the drive to get adequate freight cars for this region. Urged To Fill Forms This week questionnaires are being sent to mills that have not yet responded. Simpson urged all mills which have not yet complied to send in the short questionnaires at once. To be of value, he stated, final tabula tions of production, shipments, orders and number of mills should be ready within a month. "Mills who have not yet co operated," Simpson said, "are hurting themselves and the com munity in which they operate.' Portland Flier's Body Found in Colorado Flagstaff, Ariz., Apr. 27 (U.R) The body of a Portland, Ore., flier who disappeared March 24 was found, last night in the wreckage, of his plane near the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Peery Francis telephoned his of fice here that the pilot was iden- Talent School To Hold Open House Talent, Apr. 27 Doors of both buildings will be opened at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, for a Talent school open house, Super intendent Roy Parr announced. .He said the purpose of the event is to give parents an opportunity to see the progress their children are making, to inspect school facilities and to become acquainted with the school and its staff. Washington, Apr. 27 (U.R) The atomic energy commission announced today that it award ed 12 new contracts in physical research totaling $1,345,660 in the first three months of 1950. Music Week Slated; Proclaimed by Mayor "America's contribution to the World of Music" will be the key note of National Music week between May 7 and 14, accord ing to a proclamation of Mayor Diamond L. Flynn. In connection with the annual observance Medford schools have planned several presenta tions. They include an operetta on May 5 at Roosevelt school, a music program on May 10 at Washington school, a spring con cert at the junior high school on May 12 and an elementary school spring festival on May 19. Miss Mabel Nansen, local music week chairman, has urged that all organizations or groups observe the week in some specific way and report the activities to her at the city school office. A report to nation al headquarters will be made. Last year's Medford report was one of the best, she has been informed. Thursday.
