Sawmills Asked
To Give Data for
Lumber Census
Because operators have failed
to fill in the forms sent out,
several sawmills in the Medford
area may not be listed in the
1949 lumber census of the doug-
las fir region now being tabu
lated, according to H. V.
Simpson, executive vice
President of the West Coast
umbermen's association.
Simpson pointed out need for
accurate industry production
figures when the western lumber
industry appears before congres
sional committees. Every mill,
he said, must also be listed to
get authentic figures for the
drive to get adequate freight
cars for this region.
Urged To Fill Forms
This week questionnaires are
being sent to mills that have not
yet responded. Simpson urged
all mills which have not yet
complied to send in the short
questionnaires at once. To be of
value, he stated, final tabula
tions of production, shipments,
orders and number of mills
should be ready within a month.
"Mills who have not yet co
operated," Simpson said, "are
hurting themselves and the com
munity in which they operate.'
