The doors will open each day at 9 a.m. DAV Social Meeting A so cial meeting will be held by members of Jackson county chapter No. 8, Disabled Ameri can Veterans, and the auxiliary, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at the Medford armory. From California Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burchett and son, Dean, National City, Cal., and Mrs. Fred Bertelsen, Santa Bar bara, arrived the first of the week to be with Burchett's and Mrs. Bertelsen's mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. George Woodson, and to attend funeral services for their sister, Mrs. Le Roy Ashcraft. The services were held in Grants Pass Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Hall, Bend, also attended the services. Mrs. Hall is a sister of Mrs. Ashcraft. Visiting Bert Baudewyns, Spokane, Wash., arrived here this week to visit his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Sleight, 117 Tripp street. It is the Baudewyns' first visit here in 19 years. Also visiting at the Sleights' home are Richard Sleight, their son, and his friend, Kenneth Francis, San Francis co. Young Sleight is in charge of radio and newspaper advertising for General Mills for the Pacific coast. The meeting is open to the pub lic without charge. Mrs. Taylor, said to be an out standing authority on the Hoo ver commission, is being brought here by Medford Business and Professional Women's club as a public service. Mrs. Taylor, who has the reputation in Portland for being a dynamic speaker, is chairman of the Hoover commis sion committee for Oregon and has made an exhaustive study of the subject. The speaker is making a ser ies of appearances in southern Oregon to disseminate inlorma tion on the commission, and will also speak in Roseburg and southern Oregon before service clubs and public meetings. Her appearance here was announced by Mrs. Bertha Pree, chairman of the Medford club's legislative committee. - Obituary EDWARD CHABRIER The remains of Edward Cha brier, who passed away in the VA Domiciliary Center April 16, were forwarded to San Francisco Friday by Conger-Morris funeral home for services and interment there. Mr. Chabrier was born in San Francisco Apr. 28. 1897. He was a veteran of World War I, serv ing as private in Hdq. Co., 44th Inf. He is survived by a sister in Los Angeles. Building To Be Used For Air Warning Center Portland. Ore., Apr. 22W.K) The city of Portland will lease its old automobile testing sta tion to the western air defense command for use as an air raid warning center, it was disclosed today. Louis E. Starr. Oregon direct or of civil defense, said the con crete building will be requisi tioned through U. S. army engi neers and five air force officers olaced in overall operational command. Grant, who plotted to kill his wife and two children by time-bombing a United Airlines DC-3. Police said they were con vinced she had nothing to do with the scheme. Multnomah Sheriffs Receive Suspensions Portland. Ore., Apr. 22 U.R Sheriff Terry D. Schrunk said today he has suspended two Multnomah county deputy sher iffs on a general charge of con duct unbecoming an officer. The suspended officers were Joseph Muzyn and Edward J. Grohs. Echrunk said the suspensions were an outgrowth of a house warming last Tuesday night at the home of Rex Lowry, another deputy sheriff. Schrunk said Muzyn and Grohs were report ed to have left their district while on duty and to have driv en to Lowry s home .more than a mile away. While they were there, three or four shots were fired and a small amount of damage caused in the residence, Schrunk said. The suspensions were made indefinitely until the sheriff studies a report by a disciplinary committee composed of captains in the uniform division. Two oth er deputies who left their dis-. trict for a few minutes to deliver a present to the Lowrys were reprimanded by the sheriff. Killer of Son Step Nearer to Recovery Klamath Falls, Ore., Apr. 22 (U.R) Mrs. Lola Patrick, 26-year-old Jefferson, Ore., resident who "didn't want to live" after she killed her six-year-old son, was a step nearer recovery from a self-inflicted bullet wound today. Mrs. Patrick was moved from the Klamath Valley hospital to the infirmary Friday, Sheriff Jack Franey reported. She was critically wounded March 31 af ter she shot and killed her son, Lyndell, because she "couldn't: stand to see him live in poverty." She is charged with first de cree murder, Franey said, and will be prosecuted as soon as she recovers. Since her arrest her hospital room has been under constant "suicide watch." Apr. 22 (U.R) Attendants from the Portland zoo today continued their search for their missing mouflon. The mouflon, or mountain sheep, can run, jump and climb. Attendants said the animal hur dled the six-foot zoo fence in search for greener pastures.
