S. district judge that she violated a federal law "on pur pose" so she could be treated lor asthma at a prison hospital. The nurse, Annie H. Myers of Tampa, pleaded guilty to procur ing a drug prescription under a fictitious name yesterday before Federal Judge Carl Hatch of New Mexico. Mn. Myers told the Judge she could not afford treatment for her chronic ailment, she said a deputy sheriff suggested that she break a law In order to be sent to a federal prison. Farmers lost about 8.481,925 bushels of corn in Nebraska last year because of the European corn borer, and an estimated $11,464,008. Reductions result from the ex cellent cooperation of labor and management In reducing acci dents by establishing and main taining effective safety programs, both preventive and educational. $1 Million Savings These reductions in employer contributions to the industrial accident fund will result in esti mated savings of approximately one million dollars per year to employers insured by the state industrial accident commission. The law provides that the commission shall adjust employ er contributions In keeping with good insurance practice when their experience justifies such reductions. The new employer contribu tion rate schedules mark the fourth reduction in premium rates since 1943. While practically every por tion of the state's economy will benefit from the new employer's contribution rate schedule, the basic industries of general farm ing and lumbering in its various phases will experience the great est savings because of the larger payrolls in these two industries. residence erection and building erection nave also earned sub stantial rate reductions. Compromise Plan For Apartment Setback Reported The city planning commission last night voted to recommend to the city council that a seven foot setback line be established for the seven-story apartment house which Conies Construction company, Portland, plans to erect at 10th street and Oakdale avenue. The action was taken at a hearing. Council acceptance of the recommendation is expected to clear up the last lenal impedi ment to construction so far as the city of Med ford is concerned. Councilmcn may hear the pro posal at their regular session April 18. Officials of the company orig inally planned to build the struc ture out to the property line, and the setback recommended is in effect a compromise between the builders and property owners of the neighborhood. City ordi nance provides that setback lines be the average of others on the street. Average where the apart ment is planned is understood to be about 20 feet. Legislation will have to be drawn up per mitting the exception. Several residents objected to off-the-street parking contem plated for the apartment. 33 Persons Killed in Plunge of India Train Bareilly, India. Apr. 12 (U.R) The Kumaon Express plunged from a bridge into a dry river bed here today, killing at least 33 persons. Officials feared tlu death toll might reach 50. The train, owned by the Oudh and Tirhut railway, had Just left the Bitroi railway sta tion, some 50 miles east of New Delhi. The government controlled all-India radio all two rails had been removed from the railway bridge, an indication the train had been sabotaged. The locomo tive and four cars hurtled into the river bed. Binaggio Showed Gambling Interest, Police Head Says Kansas City, Mo., Apr. 12 (U.R) The president of the Kan sas City board of police commis sioners said today that Charles Binaggio, slain north side poll tical leader, approached him shortly after his appointment and asked about opening up the city for gambling. "I told him all the laws would be enforced," J. L. (Tuck) Milli gun said. Milligan, a lawyer, represent ed J. K. Noonan when the lat ter was charged with Binaggio and six others for violation of the prohibition act in the early 1930's. Didn't Know Binaggio "I didn't know Binaggio or any of the others at that time, Milliuan said. "Noonan was a World War I buddy of mine and that's why I represented him.' The statement by Milligan came as the murders of Binaggio and Charles Gargotta. his hood lum pal, drove a wedno between Ihc police board and Mayor Wil liam E. Kemp. The board adopted a resolu tion last night rebuffing Kemp after the Mayor urged Gov. For rest Smith to make a "thorough investigation of the police de partment." Kemp's action ruffled the feelings of the four police com missioners, two of them Smith appointees. Radio Difficulties Hamper Speed Flier Imlio. Jacksonville Teen Club Opening Set There Tonight Jacksonville, Apr. 12 Grand opening of the Jacksonville Teen-age club will be held to night in the upper floor of the Mclntyro building on California street, headquarters of the club Pictures will be taken at 7 p.m and dedication ceremonies will begin at 7:30 p.m. Dancing will commence at 8 p.m. to the music of Rogue River Ramblers, made up of Bob Rob erts, vocalist, Don Puckett, Al Beard, Tony Martin and Phil Simmons. Appearing as guest artists will be Bob Bowser, vio linist, and Jack Arnold playing his steel guitar. They arc mem bers of the Arnold band. Music will be both western and modern. Free refreshments will be served during the evening. Public Invited Teen-agers from throughout the entire valley are invited to attend as well as parents and others interested. The club room has been com pletely refloorcd during the week. Painting and plaster work have also been done. Committees made up from club members are in charge of tonight's affair. Objections Meet INight' Census Enumerators Here Census enumerators attempt ing to make a count of transients staying in Medford hotels last night encountered numerous pro tests and occasional hostility In the "T-night" nose-count ordered by the United States census bu reau, Several guests demanded to know why tiiey should be re quired to fill ouUa questionnaire when they had already done so at home. Enumerators on hand In the hotel lobbies explained that the census bureau had no way of knowing, yet, whether the transients had been counted be fore and that the count at hotels was being undertaken all over the nation as a kind of double check to be sure that no individ ual is missed. Duplications of questionna'- - will be taken into account at the bureau's centrai office and no person will be counted more than once, they pointed out. Demands Law One Intransigent transient de manded to see a copy of the law that said he had to answer the questions. Harried desk clerks were referring all Complaints to the enumerators assigned to the hotels. Ray Feves. district supervisor of the census from Eugene, was in Medford yesterday to check on the progress of the count in this area, and to prepare for "T night " enumeration. Aside from the objections last night, enumerators here have re ported excellent cooperation from citizens being counted. Only three states depend more on artificial watering than Arizona. . Big Mo Navigator Opens Trial Defense Norfolk, Va., Apr 12 (U.R) Lt. Cmdr. Frank G. Morris Jr., navigator of the battleship Mis souri at the time it ran aground, beean his defense today against charges of neglect of duty and inefficiency. Seven defense witnesses, in cluding Morris himself, will be called before the court martial board. The navy rested its case yesterday. Another court martial hearing was in progress here for Cmdr. John R. Millett, operations offic er of the 45,000-ton battleship which ran aground In Hampton Roads last January 17. LOGICAL REACTION Knoxville, Tenn.
