Grand Guardian Visits Central Point Bethel; Three Become Members Central Point Job's Daugh ters of Central Point held in spection night March 23, and Mrs. C. D. Elhart, Ashland, grand guardian for Oregon, was guest of honor. Three new members, Miss Lois Hubbard, Miss Anita Kay Con ger and Miss Myrna Gail Eaves, were initiated. Bethel members honored Mrs. Elhart with an ad dendum in which she was given the "Easter degree" and present ed with an Easter Bonnet. Other distinguished visitors in cluded Andrew Stevens. Ash land, grand inner guard; Miss Chloe Stevens, senior princess of the Ashland bethel: Menno Bach mann, worthy patron of Adarel chapter, JacKsonvwe, and Mrs Bachmann. Rooms of both floors of the temple were colorful with ar rangements ot lorsymia ana daffodils. Committees for the evening were: Bethel room, Miss Jan Freeman, Miss Laural Jewett Miss Caroline Freeland and Mrs Leonard Freeman; dining room and tables, Miss Esther and Miss Pat Snook, Miss Barbara Parsons and Mrs. J. E. Vincent; refresh ments, Miss Joyce Russell, Miss Virginia Dew, Miss Nancy Mal lon, Miss Lois Parsons and Mrs. Francis Russell. New OES Association Holds First Meeting; Grant Todd Heads Group First meeting of the newly or ganized Southern Oregon asso ciation of tbe Order of Eastern Star was held at the Masonic hall in Jacksonville March 26. It is reported that there was a good representation of chapters from over the southern part of the state, with a registration of 60 OES members. The meeting started with luncheon and members then ad journed to the chapter room where Mrs. Ina Huson, worthy matron of the hostess chapter, Adarel, welcomed the visitors and introduced the grand chap ter officers present, as well as the president of the association Grant Todd of Medford. Mr. Todd explained the pur pose of the organization and ap pointed a committee to write the constitution and by-laws for the association. Named to the com mittee were Mrs. Margaret Barnes, past grand matron of the grand chapter of Oregon and a member of Josephine county chapter of Grants Pass: Tom Knox, worthy patron of Joseph ine chapter and Mrs. Wallace Freeland. worthy matron of Ne vita chapter of Central Point. This committe will present the constitution and by-laws at the next meeting of the group set for April 30 at Glendale, Ore. It is stated that the candidate must be a successful mother, as evidenced by the character and achievement of her individual children; that she must reflect a strong religious and spiritual integrity; she must embody those traits highly regarded in moth ers, such as courage, cheerful ness, patience, affection, kind ness, understanding and home making ability; she must have a sense of civic and international understanding and have been ac tive in community Betterment or in service for public benefit, and lastly she must be qualified to represent tne Motners or Amer ica in all responsibilities at tached to her role as the Amer ican Mother. Daughters To Meet Saturday Afternoon Crater Lake chapter. Daugh ters of the American Revolution, will meet Saturday, April 1. at the home of Mrs. W. W. P. Holt, 11 Corning court. Roll call will be observed with a bfief history of the national flag, and reminders of its proper usage. Reports of the recent state conference at Corvallis will be given by the delegates. Assisting the hostess will be Mesdames G. O. Taylor. F. J. Newman, V. J. Bolton and O. H. Brenneman. Center Program Given By Two Veteran Groups The National Order of Trench Rats, and the National Order of Alley Cats of Jackson county sponsored a program of enter tainment at the Camp White domiciliary center last night. These groups are the fun and honor branches of the Disabled American veterans and auxil iary. Paul Olsen is golden rodent of the trench rats, and Mrs. Olson is head officer, or golden cat, of the women s organization. To Portland Mrs. R. T. Nichol, Medford, vice-president of the Oregon Federation of Garden clubs for the Siskiyou district, and Miss Claire Hanley, Medford, state conservation chairman for the federation, left this morning for Portland. Friday the two plan to attend' the camellia show there, and Saturday will attend a federa tion board meeting. After a potluck lunch eon the members made a wool afghan for a veteran it Camp White. Mr. and Mrs. C. Coon of San Francisco were guests of the Howard Millers ot North Broad way, last Thursday. They were motoring to Vancouver, Canada. Coon, a manufacturer of "hot line" tools is with the Safety Live Line Tool Co. of Oakland. Mr. and Mrs. George Bristol and daughter, Mickey, of Myrtle Creek were recent visitors at the home of their parents, Mr. and Airs. Dave uelvin. Years ago, Bob Knight played baseball on the Goodrich, Idaho, team with a player called "Hoppy." Recently Bob read in The Mail Tribune of H. J. Hop per buying the Cardin grocery and he rushed to the store to find it was the same Hoppy whom he had not seen for 40 years, though the men have lived in adjoining towns for several years. Mrs. Edward Llnderman un derwent an operation on her hip Saturday. The hip bone was broken when she fell on the back porch of her home last year and she has been confined to a wheel chair since then. She returned home the evening after the operation and is resting well, though unable to have callers for a few days. Raymond C. Hart spent the week-end at the Hart ranch and attended the Grange dance Sat urday night with his parents and friends. He is working in the S.P. yards at Dunsmuir, Cal. The Junior play, "One Wild Night." given last Thursday and Friday, was voted the hit of the season by a large audience. Spe cial prizes were given Buddy Ell wood for his skillful handling of his role. Many of the audience proclaimed it the best play they have attended in years. Speca Meeting Held By Reese Creek Unit Reese Creek A special meet ing of Reese Creek Extension was held March 21 at the home of Mrs. John Collins in Shady Cove. Lampshades were dis cussed, and made under the lead ership of Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Ben Gardener. Next meeting of the unit will be on improved home lighting. An Interesting meeting on the subject of cancer has also been planned, but a date for this has not been set. It is stated .that the unit al ways welcomes anyone Interest ed In the meetings, and extends a special invitation to all young mothers in the Reese creek area to attend. 124 persons the doors of the main hall were thrown open and soon eight sets of square dancers were swinging pardners across the new floor. The dance is one of a series being given for Grange members and their friends, and proceeds are to pay for the new hall, which is, as yet, unfinished. The entertainment committee expresses apprecia tion for the generous support of members of other granges and of the L.D.S. group from Grants fass. Sheppard of West Evans creek returned Monday from San Francisco where he was a guesl at a retirement banquet given in honor of Andrew Thompson who retired from the telegraph department of the Southern Pacific. Signor's resignation was accept ed yesterday by the city coun cil after the city manager told the council he was to leave May 1 to take over as Coos Bay-North Bend, Ore., water manager. Signor recently was fired and later re-hired during a city coun cil battle. His firing was with drawn by a divided council after two of the members resigned. Signor said he took the water board position because he could not work under the high tension between his office and the coun cil. Signor will replace C. F. Hard when the latter retires from the chairmanship of the water board November l. in past years, sig nor has been Grants Pass, Ore., water superintendent, city engi neer, and city manager. He has been nere one year.
