The twins, apparently Irish. being born on St. Patrick's day, were delivered to a pure" bred hereford cow belonging to the R. E. Carlcy Hereford ranch in Sams Valley. J. P. Naumes has retired from the company having sold his interest in the partnership to David B. Lowry. The Associated Fruit company has a pear packing plant at Phoenix, and operates a peach packing and sales operation at 619 South Grape street, where the general office is located. "Mr. Naumes and I have oper ated the Associated Fruit com pany upon the basis of a quality product that would bring the fruit grower a premium return," Lowry said in announcing the transaction.'. "I feel this policy is more important than ever be fore in the face of declining prices of agricultural products," he said, "and while we intend to pass on to the grower any sav ings we can accomplish by re duced overhead, better equip ment and packing methods, we will not sacrifice quality for cheap packing, as we do not be lieve it is in the best interest of our growers." One Of Largest "Associated Fruit company Is one of the largest packers of Deaches in the Medford district. In the past years they have shipped Hale peaches to points as far distant as Hawaii and Alaska, as well as the eastern United States. I believe we can continue to develop a fine stone fruit horticulture in the Rogue River valley if we concentrate on careful growing, better pack aging and distribution," Lowry stated. While J. P. Naumes is retired from the packing business, he will continue to operate his or chard holdings. D., on Oct. 22, 1901. She came here from Marshfield 23 years ago. Surviving is her husband. Sig urd M.; five children, Mrs. Viola Tooker, Walla Walla; Edgar, Mrs. Phyllis Kyker, Glen, and Alvin, all of Medford; a grand daughter, Sigrid Tooker; her mother. Mrs. John Inkster. and three sisters. LESLIE ARNOLD Leslie Ann Arnold, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Arnold, 3368 Crater Lake ave nue, passed away in a local hos pital Monday. Holders of tickets for Friday are asked to attend the perform ance that day if possible since all ticket holders are to be seat ed before additional tickets are sold at the door. However, those unable to attend on March 24 may attend the following night, it is stated. 'Smoke Scare' Results In General Fire Alarm Firemen said today that the general alarm sounded about 7:30 p.m. yesterday resulted from a "smoke scare" at the Odd Fel lows ha.ll. 221 West Sixth street. They classified the call as a false alarm. Smoke billowing from the flue of the structure gave the impression that the building was on fire, it was said. Two pumper trucks were sent to the hall. School Support Funds Arrive From State The second of half of basic school support monies for Jack son county schools was received today from the state department of education by the county school superintendent. It is now ready for distribution to the In dividual districts. The allotment iust received amounted to $404,863.88. March 21. 1950 Head Injury Sends Man To Hospital Rodger Roberts, 25, of 635 North Central avenue, suffered a mild concussion about 7 p.m. yesterday in an apparent alter cation near a Front street tavern, according to city police and doc tor's reports. Police said they found Roberts lying on the sidewalk uncon scious and bleeding from the mouth. He was taken to Com munity hospital by ConRcr-Mor-ris ambulance and later removed to the veterans domiciliary cen ter. Police reported that no com plaint had yet been filed with them. Collarbone Broken In Automobile Collision Achille Compagnoni, 812 West Fourth street, received a broken collarbone in an automobile col lision about 5:15 p.m. yesterday at the intersection of Summit and Pennsylvania avenues. Con ger - Morris ambulance service and city police reported. According to information filed with police Compagnoni was a passenger in a car operated by Charles Ghelardi, Medford. The Ghelardi machine collided with a coupe driven by N, M. Condon, Jacksonville Compagnoni was taken to Sacred Heart hospital. Police said Ghelardi was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way.
