Naumes' Interest
In Packing Firm
Change of ownershiD in the
Associated Fruit company was
announced today. J. P. Naumes
has retired from the company
having sold his interest in the
partnership to David B. Lowry.
The Associated Fruit company
has a pear packing plant at
Phoenix, and operates a peach
packing and sales operation at
619 South Grape street, where
the general office is located.
"Mr. Naumes and I have oper
ated the Associated Fruit com
pany upon the basis of a quality
product that would bring the
fruit grower a premium return,"
Lowry said in announcing the
transaction.'. "I feel this policy
is more important than ever be
fore in the face of declining
prices of agricultural products,"
he said, "and while we intend to
pass on to the grower any sav
ings we can accomplish by re
duced overhead, better equip
ment and packing methods, we
will not sacrifice quality for
cheap packing, as we do not be
lieve it is in the best interest of
our growers."
One Of Largest
"Associated Fruit company Is
one of the largest packers of
Deaches in the Medford district.
In the past years they have
shipped Hale peaches to points
as far distant as Hawaii and
Alaska, as well as the eastern
United States. I believe we can
continue to develop a fine stone
fruit horticulture in the Rogue
River valley if we concentrate
on careful growing, better pack
aging and distribution," Lowry
stated.
While J. P. Naumes is retired
from the packing business, he
will continue to operate his or
chard holdings.
