February 28. 19S0 I Broadway Stage Play Coining To Medford Friday The second Broadway stage play to be brought to Medford this season will be shown in the senior high school auditorium Friday, March 3, with a profes sional New York cast under the auspices of the Civic Drama guild and the Medford 20-30 club. Friday's production will be the late Avery Hopwood's "Fair and Warmer,' called one of the most deft and entertaining come dies to hit Broadway in many years. The play is concerned mainly with a husband who has a weakness for periodic visits to a "mystic shrine" and a wife who believes mm. ror acictea in terest, there is also a wife who pays regular visits to a "wom en s club" and she has a hus band who believes her. ....On Mora Coming The first play In this season's 20-30 club series was the period drama, "The Heiress." The menu of outstanding theater fare for Medford play-goers will be com pleted April 22 when the drama guild brings "Peg o' My Heart" to the local auditorium. Reserved scat tickets may be fiurchased for the two remain ng plays by sending a check or money order to the 20-30 club, box 1161, Medford. General ad mission seats will be placed on sale for the first time for "Fair and Warmer." Bill Lawrence, general chair man of the productions, said proceeds from the plays will go into the 20-30 club's fund for public service projects. Savings Bond Drive To Start May 15 The 1950 United States sav ings bond campaign, to be known as the Independence drive, will get under way May 15 and run through July 4, Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snyder an nounced Saturday. The Liberty bell is the campaign symbol, and "Save for Your Independ ence" is the slogan. "Ever since the inception of the savings bond program," Sec retary Snyder said, "it has been recognized as a strong force for the preservation and develop ment of our free enterprise sys tem." E. C. Sammons. chairman of the Oregon state drive, says he believes this state will better its record for 1D49 when the as signed quota was exceeded by about 10 per cent. Parents Of Juniors To Discuss Plans The parents of Bliss Heine's Juniors will hold their regular monthly meeting Wednesday at 8 p.m. In the Eagles auxiliary hall at 217 West Main street. Business matters and plans for the summer will be discussed. It is important that a large attend ance be present, Heine said. The Junors are now booked for several programs and pa rades several months ahead. Last week Gerald Funk was promot ed to the rank of sergeant in the mascot section. The membership is now approximately 200. Because of a large number of requests it has been decided to accept members from Josephine county to the north and Siskiyou county in California. The Juniors now have a de mand for 100 tons of newspapers and now can also use wrapping paper. Only these two kinds are wanted. They may be left on the front porch at 816 West 10th street. Injunction Sought To Nullify Ordinance A suit seeking an injunction against the city of Ashland, to restrain it from enforcing a re cently-passed zoning ordinance, was filed in the county clerk'. office here yesterday morning The suit, brought by Harry G and Clara Hillberry and Carl V, Grossman, was addressed to the mayor and council of Ashland and is intended to prevent re- zoning for Business uses a sec. tion of the north side of Siski you boulevard half a block west of Palm avenue. The rezoning ordinance was passed at the request of Irving Nelson, Ashland, who plans to construct a self-service laundry there. The proposal had been opposed at last Tuesday's Ash land city council meeting by representatives of property own ers in the area. The suit alleges that the ordi nance is "spot zoning," and that any rezoning should have prior approval of the planning com mission. A START. ANYWAY Richmond. Va.
