Savings Bond Drive
To Start May 15
The 1950 United States sav
ings bond campaign, to be known
as the Independence drive, will
get under way May 15 and run
through July 4, Secretary of the
Treasury John W. Snyder an
nounced Saturday. The Liberty
bell is the campaign symbol,
and "Save for Your Independ
ence" is the slogan.
"Ever since the inception of
the savings bond program," Sec
retary Snyder said, "it has been
recognized as a strong force for
the preservation and develop
ment of our free enterprise sys
tem." E. C. Sammons. chairman of
the Oregon state drive, says he
believes this state will better its
record for 1D49 when the as

about 10 per cent.
Parents Of Juniors
To Discuss Plans
The parents of Bliss Heine's
Juniors will hold their regular
monthly meeting Wednesday at
8 p.m. In the Eagles auxiliary
hall at 217 West Main street.
Business matters and plans for
the summer will be discussed. It
is important that a large attend
ance be present, Heine said.
The Junors are now booked
for several programs and pa
rades several months ahead. Last
week Gerald Funk was promot
ed to the rank of sergeant in the
mascot section. The membership
is now approximately 200.
Because of a large number of
requests it has been decided to
accept members from Josephine
county to the north and Siskiyou
county in California.
The Juniors now have a de
mand for 100 tons of newspapers
and now can also use wrapping
paper. Only these two kinds are
wanted. They may be left on the
front porch at 816 West 10th
street.

Injunction Sought To
Nullify Ordinance
A suit seeking an injunction
against the city of Ashland, to
restrain it from enforcing a re
cently-passed zoning ordinance,
was filed in the county clerk'.
office here yesterday morning
The suit, brought by Harry G
and Clara Hillberry and Carl V,
Grossman, was addressed to the
mayor and council of Ashland
and is intended to prevent re-
zoning for Business uses a sec.
tion of the north side of Siski
you boulevard half a block west
of Palm avenue.
The rezoning ordinance was
passed at the request of Irving
Nelson, Ashland, who plans to
construct a self-service laundry
there. The proposal had been
opposed at last Tuesday's Ash
land city council meeting by
representatives of property own
ers in the area.
The suit alleges that the ordi
nance is "spot zoning," and that
any rezoning should have prior
approval of the planning com
mission.
