Gyms Open On Satu rday Local school gymnasiums will be open Saturday from 10 a. m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p. m. for boys wishing to take part in in door sports under supervision. Boys were reminded again that they must wear tennis shoes or use stocking feet as no street shoes are allowed. School gymnasiums open to morrow will be at Jackson, Roosevelt, Washington, junior high, Lincoln and the senior high. There is no charge for any of the boys. . Last week Saturday 364 youths used the six gyms with the largest number going to the junior high, where 60 showed up, followed by Washington with 57, senior high 52, Lincoln 50, Jackson 46 and Roosevelt with 45. " - Oak Grove Basketball Team Plays Saturday About 14 players, coach and manager from the Oak Grove school basketball squad will go to Glide, Ore., Saturday, for two games with grade school teams in that community, Principal Bruce Metzger said today. Games will be played in the evening, starting at 7 o'clock. First string players making the trip will be Dale Gott, Jerry Knapp. Donald Trautman, Rick ey Johnson. Donald Lingren, Douglas McNeil and Calvin Mc Donald. Manager will be Jay Masterson and Metzger is coach. Webfoot Men for Suffers Illness Eugene, Ore., Feb. 10 (U.R) University of Oregon Basketball Coach John Warren was in a Eugene hospital today to recov er from a case of virus pneu monia. . Webfoot coaching chores will be handled by Assistant Coach Don Kirsch tonight and Satur day night against Oregon State and St. Mary's. Team Physician George Gul dager said Warren's condition was not serious but that the bas ketball coach had to remain at the hospital over the week-end. Sophomore Center Gene Con ley of Washington State and Frank Guisness of Washington are waging a tight duel for Pa cific Coast conference northern division scoring honors. Conley collected 129 points in nine games for a 14.3 average per start, while Guisness' 134 point total is for 10 games and a 13.4 average. Oak Grove Stops St. Mary s Boys Oak Grove school's seventh and eighth grade basketball team made it two victories over St, Mary's cagers when the two teams played on the parochial scnool floor yesterday afternoon The final score yesterday was 27 to 22 and earlier Oak Grove won by a 25 to 22 count. The two teams will get to gether again next Monday at 7 p. m, as a preliminary to the closing game of the St. Mary's school girls lntra-mural basket ball season. In the girls' contest the seniors will play the juniors team starting at 8 p. m. -. Senior girls have won two and lost two this season while the juniors have taken three victories and lost one. That's what worries us most the kids be- Jackson Honored By Chamber Drecfors Members of the Jackson Coun ty Chamber of Commerce's board of directors met informal ly last night at the Rogue Val ley Country club to honor Glenn Jackson retiring president. Eugene Thomdike, a member of the board and manager of the First National bank here, spoke briefly, expressing the gratitude of the board for the many years of service Jackson has given the chamber. He has been president for seven terms. A brief case was presented Jackson at the gathering. Mrs. Roy Mills Dies In Salem Hospital Salem, Ore.. Feb. 10 (U.R) Mrs. Beulah M. Mills. 60, wife of Secretary Roy H. Mills of the state board of control, died in a hospital here Thursday night from a heart ailment. Mrs. Mills, who was born In Newberg Oct. 6, 1889, was the daughter of the late State Sen. Charles K. and Lorah Spauldlng. Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m.
