Pass Medford hlch will entertain Eagle Point high Friday night in a game that definitely will de termine whether the Black Tor nado will remain in the tfliek ol the race for Southern Oregon conference and district 4 basket ball honors this season. Other conference - district games tomorrow will send Ash land to Grants Pass and Cen tral Point to Klamath. Yesterday the Tornado under the guidance of Coach Frank Roelandt worked on sharpening their passing, ball handling and shooting with a smoother bas ket making evident. The coach is not taking this game with Eagle Point at all lightly, having seen the Eagles in action. Long Workout Held . The local boys were a bit slow and showed lack oi fire yester day but Roelandt explained this probably was due to the hard and long workout they had had Tuesday afternoon. . It was evident, however, that the local youths were sinking baskets with more precision and accuracy. Whether they will be able to do so under game pres sure may be a question but the experience and good condition the local youths are in should be a deciding factor. The Tornado boys have speed, finesse and good physical con dltion that often can wear down an opponent thnt lacks these qualities or Is a bit less condl' tioned. In the doubles match, Kramer and Parker beat Segura and Gon zales in a single set contest, 7-5, before 4,666 fans. Topping the list with four vic tories and one defeat each are Mann's, Prospect, Green's con fectionery and Mobilgas with a game slated for Monday, Febru ary 13, between Mann's and Green's coming up as a most im portant one for both teams This game next Monday and another between American Fruit and Groceteria the same evening in the junior high gym will be the next AAU league 2 tilts slated this season. Proipoct Loads Way Last night at the junior high Prospect led most of the way in the evening's curtain-faller to down Brownie's Plumbing and Heating 57 to 47 and in the op ener of the night Mann's led at every quarter whistle to defeat Crater Lake Lumber 64 to 51. Bebb pushed in 19 points, Billy Arnold 12 and Lindley slapped in 20 to lead Mann s to victory while Chuck Romine'sunk 24 points to do most of the scoring for the lumbermen team. Mann's led at the first quar ter 13 to 12, at the half 25 to 22 and at the third quarter it was 47 to 35. In the evening's second game Prospect held a 13 to 6 first period lead, raised it to 28 to 20 at the half and the scoreboard read 40 to 35 for Brownie's at the third quarter. Prospect kept Brownie's down to seven points in the fourth quarter while the winners scored 12. No Garnet Tonight Dolenscheck with 12 points, Prausse with 10 and Popp who scored 13 led the Prospect town ies to victory. Scoring for Brown ie's was pretty evenly distributed among all players. AAU Backetball league games at the junior high Friday will send Phoenix against Crazy Swayze at 7 p.m. followed by a game to be announced later. Butte Falls and Timber Products will not play as scheduled. There will be no AAU games at the junior high tonight. Seals Forseen First Division San Francisco, Feb. 9 !U.R) Lefty O'Doul, baseball's most Inconsistent successful manager, predicted today that his San Francisco Seals, a sluggish sev enth last year, will finish in the first division of the Pacific Coast league this season. At the same time he said he thought that the new Greenberg Starr tie-up in San Diego would make the Padres a tough club Greenberg, general manager of the Cleveland Indians, recently was named a director of the Padres. The Branch Rickey connection of the Hollywood Stars also will continue to make that outfit for midable, O'Doul believes. Asked how about Oakland, O'Doul said: "Maybe the New York Yanks and the Oakland club aren't as close together as some think. The Acorns may have some trouble. Pro Basketball Game Results By United Proit Warren Perkins, a former Tu- lane star now wearing the livery of the Trl-City Blackhawks, was credited today with one of the finest clutch scoring perform ances of the National Basketball association season. The slim, dark-haired pro freshman ripped six points through the cords in an overtime period to lead the Hawks to a 99 to 94 victory over the Phil adelphia Warriors last night. He also emerged as his team's high scorer with 16 points. In other games lost night. St. Louis beat New York, 84-82, in double overtime; Syracuse trounced Sheboygan. 106-81: and Waterloo beat Washington, 77-70. Bartlert Mtdford Local Rifle Merchandise Shoot Sunday A non-registered merchandise shoot to mark the beginning of a busy shooting season for the Medford Rifle club will be held Sunday, February 12. nt the in door range at Merrick's, officers announced today. Riflemen whether club members or not are eligible to compete. The shoot will start at 10 a.m. and a free lunch will be served with sandwiches, doughnuts, cof fee, milk and cookies as part of the menu, officers said.
