A mu sic school had moved into the Newspapers Delete Statistics Addresses Portland, Ore., Feb. 8 (U.R) Portland's two daily newspapers carried birth and death statistics today without address listings be cause a strict interpretation of an Oregon law was applied. Deane Huxtable, Oregon reg istrar of vital statistics, said the move was made as a "protection to the public." A law passed by the state legislature last July makes no reference to listing ad dresses in vital statistics. Huxtable said publication of addresses in vital statistics left the way open to annoying calls by salesmen. But one father re torted: "I can't recall ever having been bothered very much. As the father of five children maybe you could look upon me as the voice of experience. Toy-Laden Vessel Sails For Rotterdam Philadelphia, Feb. 8 (U.R) The liner American Defender sails for Rotterdam today to bring toyland back to the chil dren of Europe. Its holds crammed with dolls, wagons and other wonderful gifts, the ship carries the first installment of America's tlde-of-toys. The initial shipment of 900,000 toys will be distzibutcd by CARE representatives in the Nether lands, Austria, Berlin and the three zones of western Germany. Additional millions of toys, still flowing into the American Legion toyland depot here, will go later to gladden the hearts of play-starved youngsters in France, Italy, the British Isles, Greece and Norway. American Soldiers Given Prison Terms Tokyo, Japan, Feb. 8 (U.R) Two American soldiers who as saulted two Swedish diplomats nnd others at a party here last December 2 were handed long prison terms by an army court martial today. j Pvt. Lawson R. Davis, 22, of Lexington, N. C, was sentenced to 10 vears and Pvt. Sanford E. Shackleford, 19, of Newport, Ky., to 5 years. Davis and Shackleford were charged with staging a near-riot in a local restaurant after mem bers of Scandinavian diplomatic missions attending a party in the restaurant took exception to their remarks to women guests. Some of the ladies like the night business, because they find it more suitable to their "per sonal needs and desires." Most of these had no domestic respon sibilities. One woman, with no children, said her husband trav eled and she was alone most of the time. LIIcm To Sleep Late A counter girl in Atlanta said that despite the fact she had kids aged two, eight and 12, she liked her shift because she liked to "sleep late in the morning." "My h u s b a n d," she said, "works a day shift and he takes care of the children in the even ing." Several women working in ho tels, bars and restaurants said they got bigger tips at night. One woman said she had been working as a baker for the same boss for six years on the night shift. She said she didn't sleep too well in the daytime, because of the racket outside her bed room window, "but I take great pride in my work and you don't bake in the daytime. I take great pride in my pies." ' A 38-year-old cashier in a ho tel restaurant was the most frank of all those in the survey. "I am divorced," she said, "and live alone. I'm the kind of a gal who gets lonesome. Rogue River Rnsiie River. Feb. 8 Mina May Breeding, a resident of Kerbv for the oast three years, died February 2. She was born Aug. 5, 1898 at Rogue River and spent the greater part of her life in iivans vauey wnere she leaves many friends to mourn her passing. She is survived oy her husband. Jim Breeding, one sister, Mrs. Bertha Norcross of Medford. and two brothers. Orin Train of Trail, and Marion Train of Coquille. There are 18 nieces and nephews. Funeral services were to be conducted from Hope Presbyterian church Tuesday at 1 p.m. Interment was in Woodville cemetery at Rogue River. Rogue River Garden club will meet Thursday, February 9, at 1 d. m. at the Grange hall. Mae LaBrun will give a review of the book "Our Plundered Planet."
