Gunners Lead Locals In Challenge Central Point, Feb. 7 Central Point Sportsman's club today looked forward to its trip to the Medford Gun club grounds Sun day, February 12, knowing that the Pointer trapsnooters have a two-point edge after competition between the two clubs at the C. P. grounds. The Pointers took a 462 to 460 victory over the Medford scattergunners last Sunday in the first round of the annual Central Point vs. Medford chal lenge match. Central Point is determined to end the Medford club's monopoly hold on the challenge trophy. Next Sunday Again Another 50 birds will be shot next Sunday at Medford by the 10 shooters qualifying for the team In a 25-bird qualifying round. Two Holes In One Too Much For These People Valparaiso, Fla., Feb. 7 (U.R) Mrs. Dorothy Christie almost fainted after she stenncd uo to the 140-yard, par three seventh hole on the Elgin air force base course and fired a hole-in-one yesterday. Her reaction was minor com pared to that of Lt. Col. Roy A. Davidson. He followed Mrs. Christie to the tee and plunked n another one. Far West Loop Player Bought By Salem Club Salem. Ore., Feb. 7 (U.R) Bob Haddock, third baseman for Pittsburg in the Class D Far West league last year, has been purchased bv the Salem Senators of the Western International league. Haddock, 24, batted .281 for Pittsburg last season. Although winter traditionally is the season for the shuffling of football professorships, the changes reached a record high as 17 major colleges promised new tutors for 1950 and five pro fessional teams likewise made switches. The latest developments came when Art Lewis of Mississippi State was hired at West Vir ginia: Gene Ronzani, formerly of the Chicago Bears, was named head coach of the Green Bay Packers of the National-Amer ican Professional league: Art Valpcy quit at Harvard to be come head man at Connecticut, and Henry Luecht resigned at Washiniiton and Jefferson. Home Floor Eagle Point, Feb. 7 Grants Pass high which is leading the Southern Oregon conference with an undefeated record, will invade the Eaulc Point high gym tonight against the Eagles who will be out to get Dack into ine running for the conference and district title. Rumford residents see plenty of snow and plenty of skiing during the winter but never had they witnessed performers with the polish and stamina of Karl-Erik Aastrom, who won the 18-kilometer (11 miles) race Fri day; Gunar Erikkson, who won the 50-kilometer (31 miles) race yesterday; or the four Swedes who took the 40-kilometer relay race Sunday. With 29-year-old Erikkson leading the way, the Swedes took the first four places in the 50- kilomcter event after one of the closest finishes in the history of the event. Ga., Feb. 7 ;tj.R) Coach Wallace Butts fired four top Georgia football players to day for failing to report to prac tice but it appeared that they had beaten him to the draw. Coaches said the four were not to be found on the campus or in the team dormitory and evi dently had left school. They are Bill Hegarty, 220 pound tackle from Medford, Mass.; Bob Lovely, 190-pound tackle from Haverhill, Mass.; Bob Olshan, quarterback from Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and halfback Jac McHugh, Chicago. All four were being counted upon heavily in Butts' plans to recoup from a disastrous 1949 season. The Bulldogs lost six games last year for their worst season since Butts took over In 1939.
